About this mod

A custom sniper rifle for personal use that I commissioned. Model by Desmo_851, uses Artysync's Springfield 1903 kNVSE animations.

Permissions and credits
A wack-ass sniper rifle no-one asked for (besides me).

This is the main weapon used by a character of mine in a dieselpunk worldbuilding project I'm making. I decided it'd be cool to play around with it in New Vegas and so commissioned the wonderful Desmo_851 to make the model and mod for me, using Artysync's animations for the M1903 Springfield. The melee version uses Sigerious' SIGMA Spear kNVSE animations.

The rifle is essentially the sniper variant of the German Gewehr 98 fitted with a detachable 20-round trench mag and a strange bayonet inspired by the blade of a Medieval billhook. The rifle version requires a guns skill of 100 and the Bayonet version only needs a melee skill of 25.

This mod is incredibly barebones for one reason: ammo. It uses CaliberX's 8x57mm ammo, but I have no fucking clue on how to add said ammo into the worldspace, how to enable its crafting recipes, etc. So as of now, the only thing this mod adds is the rifle, named the Ossifrage. It can be found in Doc Mitchell's house, propped up next to the door in his bedroom. You can turn it into its Bayonet version on the workbench, and it uses Sigerious' Spear animations. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make it so that you can quickly swap between the rifle version and bayonet version, so your options are either A. Spawn the bayonet version in with console commands, B. Have ED-E, Veronica or some sort of portable crafting kit mod on hand, or C. Pick one or the other to use at a time.

This mod wasn't supposed to be public, but I might as well put it out there for the world to see. As this was meant for personal use, all the problems I just mentioned are complete non-issues for me as I have no qualms with simply using M.U.X. Interface Overhaul's Item Explorer feature to simply spawn the ammo in. As such, I leave it up to the kindness of the New Vegas modding folk to make patches and stuff to add stuff like the ammo into the worldspace. Regrettably, the only thing I can give is my eternal gratitude.

I'm currently uploading this mod at 12 AM so I don't have time to do a video showcasing the weapon. I'll get down to it eventually. The video is now up and live! I apologise if it's a bit shite, my game runs at like 30 fps and my laptop isn't good at recording. You're welcome to film your own showcase video if it pleases you.

You may notice that I uh, haven't posted the form IDs for the weapons or ammo, meaning that technically you can't spawn them in with console commands. Again, 12 am, running on fumes, I'll install itembrowser and check the form IDs myself as soon as I can. Get the aforementioned Item Explorer from M.U.X. Interface Overhaul if you want it quickly.

Turns out, I don't actually need to post the form ID, as you can search for them in the console, without mods. Thanks to DoomspudRoflcopter for letting us know in the comments!

Also, if you'd like a version of this weapon without the weird bayonet, check out this patch by Kirillox88!
For a patch that uses vanilla ammo, visit this mod by ShillyTheBeep!
And for a complete Vanilla integration patch (one that removes the bayonet and makes the scope a mod, as well as taking .308 vanilla ammo and using vanilla weapon balancing), visit this mod! Also by ShillyTheBeep.

PS: Please don't ask me to make patches for this mod. I am not a modder. I am simply a dude that orders New Vegas mod commissions. Those I commission are only obligated to do what they're paid to do, and should not be expected to go above and beyond (i.e. maintaining this mod) after they've already been paid. If you see something that you think you can fix, alter or edit and have the time and skills to fix it, then you have my full permission to make a patch of it.
