Using Niyol with A World Of Pain will result in Niyol being killed when you enter Jean Skydiving. AWOP places a bomb shelter and a Powder Ganger inside Jean Skydiving. On entering the structure, the powder ganger will shoot Niyol. You'll have to kill the powder ganger and then use the console to resurrect Niyol.
Not a bug, just a thought on lore: I'm just starting a Legion-aligned playthrough inspired by Ulysses (Lonesome Road) and Joshua Graham (Honest Hearts) pointing out that Frumentarii often travel the Mojave as Couriers.
The Legion also loooooves their dogs. And with Niyol's 'carrying stuff' handy-ness, he can help me sneak weaponry past casino security. Perfect K9 partner for a Frumentarius.
EDIT TO ADD: I've also... personalized my copy of Niyol to make him tougher and faster and give him a harder bite. In combination with the JIP CC&C "attack" command, I've now got a more than capable K9 partner on the road. (Also, he loves chewing on Dr. Mobius' robo-scorpions. They're his chew toys. ;)
ETA2 (And possible Spoiler Alert, so I'm going to hard return half a dozen times for those who have not yet played with the Willow companion mod):
I've given Willow's dog J.T. the same upgrades as Niyol. So now it's me, a girl with an integrally suppressed Russian SMG, and two very hungry grumpy puppies. I, uh... well, I still get to shoot at my enemies before they're dead... sometimes... lol
Any chance you can make a version that has the YUPTTW version as the master? I would love to use this mod but it seems to not work with that version of yup? or atleast is flagged as missing the yup master
I will take a look at this when I set up a TTW game myself in the future. Might be a few weeks though since I am currently working through a Frontier playthrough. Thanks for letting me know about this issue.
On inspection it seems there is actually no dependency on YUP, so in version 0.5 I have removed it as a master. You should now be able to load the YUP variant of your preference alongside Niyol without any issues. Let us know if this works better for you!
The main issue for me was to make sure the required "conversation wheel" topics were all present in the follower's dialogue quest, and were correctly ordered. That way, when CCC does its magic, the new command buttons all do what they are supposed to.
Other than that, I would say it's laborious rather than complicated. Since I was making a follower from scratch, I used the guide made by Caprius here, with a few corrections and changes (don't forget to add a GOODBYE topic in the Conversation tab!), and it worked well for me. As for the avatar, the CCC mod page provides easy-to-follow instructions on how to make your own.
If you're interested in making your own follower, you might also look at NosCo Companion System or EZ Companion System, which are designed to help you with the process of creating new companions. Both are supported by CCC.
Thanks for the info both of you. The companions I've made so far I haven't bothered scripting full functionality for the companion wheel so I wasn't sure what all it entailed to get JIP to recognize them as companions.
Maybe it's better to put this one somewhere nearby instead of interior cell? Cause, if I remember right, some mods outright replace this cell and some modify it to some degree.

Gerokeymaster has a good tutorial series to create a companion.
