Nexus Mods doesn't have a News or Poll feature, so I'm trying this out to see if people tracking my mod get notified.

Question for you guys: Should I make my own weapon mods for the guns in this pack?

Right now, I'm repurposing base-game mods such as the 9mm Pistol Scope and 10mm Pistol Suppressor for various weapons and the descriptions may not match the effects. The Naval SMG uses the Sniper Rifle Carbon Fiber Parts, for instance, and instead of reducing weight, when applied to the SMG, it decreases spread. Also, making my own mods would cut down on the base-game vs. GRA version confusion for some mods (i.e. the 12.7mm SMG SIlencer and the 12.7mm SMG Suppressor), but could potentially cause confusion with other mods that rename base-game mods (i.e. 9mm Pistol Scope >> Red Dot Sight, 10mm Pistol Silencer >> Pistol Suppressor, etc.)

So, should I create my own weapon mods? I'll continue to use base-game mods where they make sense (i.e. the Hunting Rifle Scope for sniper-type weapons) but create new ones where they're needed (i.e. a 12-Gauge Shotgun Suppressor where before I was using the 12.7mm Pistol Silencer). Sound off in the comments to this article if you see this and have an opinion.

EDIT: At the moment, I want to create the following weapon mods -

  • Shotgun Suppressor (To be used by the Stubby Hunting Shotgun, and both 12 Ga. and 20 Ga. Tactical Shotguns)
  • .50 MG Suppressor (To be used by the Payload Rife and any other .50 MG weapons added in the future)
  • Shoulder Stock (To be used by the Naval SMG, Chinese Machine Pistol, Converted Full-Auto .45 Pistol, and Pneumatic Pistol)
  • Reflex Sight (To replace all instances of the 9mm Pistol Scope on my weapons)

I'd say go for it, if that's what you want.

That sounds like a good idea, the only thing you should really keep in mind is that a TON of people use WMX and there may be compatibility issues with that mod if you add new mods to the vendor leveled list

Is that the one that renames some of the vanilla mods, like 9mm Pistol Scope to Red-Dot Sight?

Yep, it pretty much overhauls all the vanilla attachments, it seems to work fine with the mod as it is, but I'm not sure how it would act running alongside custom attachments, I've had LL issues in the past when running it alongside mods that also add mods to the LL

Well, I'll see what happens if I inject them by script. In any case, I'm running TTW and the new release will basically kill WMX compatibility permanently according to the devs, so for TTW users at least it won't even be an issue.

I say keep using the base game mods. It keeps things compatible. Great mod btw.

I don't think it will cause compatibility issues, imo the weapon mods renamer mods he talks about should be avoided anyway since they edit records and cause comp issues themselves, so there would be no downside.

Got notified, I think you should add a few when the intended effect on your weapon does not match enough a vanilla mod you're using :) When using Realtime Weapon Modding System and/or the pipboy mod menu, it gets confusing otherwise. Thanks for your work!

That's the idea. If it makes sense to use the base-game mod, I will (i.e. using the Hunting Rifle Scope on the Precision Shooter's Rifle) but using a 12.7mm Pistol Silencer to silence a 12-gauge shotgun makes less sense, so I would add a "12-Gauge Suppressor" mod. Or for the Schnellfeuer and Fitz .45 Machine Pistol, they could both use a new "Machine Pistol Stock" mod instead of the Cowboy Repeater Maple Stock, for example.

Sounds great! I guess you can keep the vanilla icons to reduce workload.

I think mod weapon mods are best, gives you space to add wacky mods too like for the finger blaster ect.

I think you should, keeping up with the vanilla naming conventions and structure. Keep up the amazing work

I think there's enought weapons mods in the base game and DLC. But It could be cool to have some new mods. Just a little.
And yes, I get a notification about this article !
