About this mod

Troop overhaul inspired by warband, aimed at making the factions play very differently both one from another and from their vanilla counterpart. Should help making the mid to endgame less repetitive

This mod was made with Warbandlord in mind, while mods such as RBM  or Drastic Battles will work the troop balance might be off

What it does :

what if, instead of adding, we removed ?

By changing or removing most units this mod helps at making factions more unique. Inspired by how troop trees were designed in Warband, the strengths and weaknesses of factions are now clear. Fighting Sturgians or Vlandians will no longer feel like a skin change.

The different trees :

Aserai : Do you like camels ? Because I do.
Decent infantry coupled with strong archers. The mounted archers exist to overwhelm the AI, not to be deadly. It's noble line can skirmish a bit before coming back to the more classic charge.

Battania : The ranged faction, it's a shame cavalry exists.
Has the best shock troops and great skirmish infantry, meanwhile the cavalry is useless at hunting anything else than low tier troops. The noble line's archers are still very strong although nerfed compared to vanilla.

Empire : Because M&B really needed a generic empire.
Jack of All trades, master of none. It has troops of most types, and should cover everybody's need but they won't be as good as their counterparts, and should be played more in a combined arms way.

Khuzait : For those who want to be annoying.
Plays as expected, but less OP than in vanilla. It does have a mixed archer/infantry line but the highlight is obviously the horse archers and the shock cavalry.
Nothing really new here.

Sturgia : I miss my huscarls.
It is now the de facto nords faction (yes, very original, I know) instead of being a bad Vlandia. That means very strong infantry but poor archers and no cavalry. Ideal for defending choke points or taking castles, just choose wisely where you engage your enemy.

Vlandia :"F1 + F3", Sun Tzu.
Basically Swadia : Strongest cav, great crossbowmen but forgettable infantry. The nostalgics will love it but remember that most infantries can brace, and it hurts.

Other Changes :

  • Brand new mercenaries ! They are now useful instead of being a waste of money. The mercenaries are the regular mercenaries, manhunters and sword sisters
  • The bandits now upgrade to these mercenaries instead of the nonsensical noble upgrade
  • Villager parties now have women in them, like in warband, and you can raise them to sword sisters
  • Overhaul of some of the minor factions to make them stronger, in line with the lore
  • Horses are no longer needed to upgrade troops into cavalry
  • Nobles respawn with fewer troops, making a loss harsher as it takes longer to rebuild a party

Compatibility :

This mod isn't compatible with others troop overhauls, mods that changes the partyTemplates xml or those that change mercs.
It isn't safe to add, nor to remove midgame as it will crash the game for sure

Patches :

There are three patches (plus one in progress), they should be below YATO and the mod they patch.
  • Camel Armor fixes the crash from the original mod
  • Improved Garrisons fixes the template issue
  • SA/VA/POC changes the armours of some of the modded troops, the lords and also fixes the POC harness crash.
  • Ancient Civilizations/CTS makes the Empire troops look roman.
You can use the armour packs without the patchs, it's only used to distribute the armours on the troops and nobles. They are safe to add or remove midgame if you don't mind some items disappearing from your inventory

/!\ The SA/VA/POC patch was made with the rest of the mod in mind, so I removed some armours (mostly the later stuff) and re balanced others. If you want to get theses armours back just delete the XSLTs from VA and SA.
