Part of May Modathon Month 2020

OpenMW Load Order Converter allows you to easily convert your load order between OpenMW and the vanilla game. It is very useful if you use Mlox to sort your load order for you or if you want to use a mod manager like Vortex to manage your plugins instead of the OpenMW launcher.

Installation

Manually download the version for your operating system, extract it, and place the extracted files in your game directory next to Morrowind.exe.

Run one of the files to perform initial setup.

If you use a mod manager you can add these programs to your tools section for easy access. I don't know about other mod managers but in Vortex you need to check "Run in shell" when adding the shortcuts.

To run on OSX or Linux see this.

Usage

Run ConvertToMW to convert your OpenMW load order to vanilla Morrowind, overwriting the existing load order.

Run ConvertToOMW to convert your vanilla Morrowind load order to OpenMW, creating a new content list.

If something isn't working run the setup again by deleting LoadOrderConverter.cfg and rerunning one of the programs.

Details for mod authors

For the May 2019 Modathon I released my combat mod Better Balanced Combat which needs an auto patcher to achieve high compatibility with other mods. The patcher was reliant on the TES3cmd program by john.moonsugar. Unfortunately TES3cmd didn't have the ability to read OpenMW load orders so my patcher needed to be able to convert the OpenMW load order to vanilla Morrowind before running. After implementing the feature for my patcher I saw people might want to be able to convert load orders easily for other reasons so I made this.

If you are a mod author and your mod/utility is reliant on users converting their load orders you can require users install this tool and run it. Optionally, instead of having users run the tool themselves, you may have your program run this tool. It opens for a second or two, converts the load order, then closes automatically. If you would instead rather code this feature into your program yourself it is open source and you can find the repos below.
