  This article will help any mod authors (or aspiring mod authors) to understand how to add new entries into the Appearance Mod Menu. Each entry corresponds to a single line in the interface, which can be applied to the character. This may get a bit technical, but I'll do my best to make it accessible. For many mods you will not need to ever touch LEX, and you will very rarely need to do anything beyond work with textures and meshes like you would to make a custom hair mod before this menu existed.
  
  As a reminder, you do not need my permission to release mods that add entries into this menu. I am happy to help you release a mod, and I will link to it from this mod's page, but you do not need my permission.
