Updated to 2.0. Changes in the changelog.

Screenshots were taken with Genesis and Lights Tweak mods installed.

If you only want to use the UI fix, then just put ReshadeEffectShaderToggler.ini in your Kenshi installation folder and follow installation instructions below. It works with any resolution, UI mod, or ReShade preset. I tested with many different ones, like: Transparent UI and Compact Dark UI. Just don't use any type of UIMask or UIDetect shaders with it, since those are not needed.

What this ReShade does:

Adds ambient occlusion and bloom to make the lighting look less flat. Also uses Luma fade, ReVeil, and Deband to greatly reduce AO visibility through fog.

The bloom is supposed to make the scorching Kenshi sun and night lighting look a bit more vibrant, while hopefully not being too straining for the eyes to look at during your average 12+ hour Kenshi sessions. :)

Depth of field that isn't really visible most of the time, except when zoomed in enough. I didn't want the game to look blurry constantly or have the DOF trigger too easily.

Luma fade for darker nights without compromising on daytime lighting. Nights are way too bright by default, so I wanted to fix that while simultaneously not messing up the brightness of lights and daytime. This means some areas without lighting will be extra dark though. (Luma fade allows you to fade in and out ReShade effects based on scene luminance)

Full UI fix with ReshadeEffectShaderToggler (REST) add-on. This means no more seeing effects on both static and dynamic UI elements like the inventory. It works with any resolution or UI mod.

If you want a basic guide on how to use it: Steam Community :: Guide :: Make ReShade effects ignore the UI

I'm only sharing my ReShade preset and REST ini file. You need to download the effects and REST add-on through the ReShade installer. Either install all shaders or just what is used by the preset.

The qUINT_of.fx (optical flow) shader is not available through the installer. Get it here: GitHub - martymcmodding/ReShade-Optical-Flow. Click the green Code button and download zip. Extract the Shaders folder to your Kenshi installation folder. It's used for preventing the ambient occlusion effect (NGLighting) from moving.

Effects:
  • Bessel_Bloom.fx
  • Deband.fx
  • MartysMods_SHARPEN.fx
  • MartysMods_SMAA.fx
  • NGLighting.fx
  • PD80_03_Curved_Levels.fx
  • PD80_06_Luma_Fade.fx
  • qUINT_dof.fx
  • qUINT_lightroom.fx
  • qUINT_of.fx
  • ReVeil.fx
Add-on:
  • ReshadeEffectShaderToggler (REST)
Installation:
  • Extract the 2 ini files to the Kenshi installation folder.
  • Download the full add-on supported version of ReShade.
  • During installation, select Kenshi and DirectX 11. (Choose Update ReShade and effects if asked)
  • Select either all effects or just the ones listed above, and ReshadeEffectShaderToggler (REST) add-on. Don't forget the optical flow shader from GitHub.
  • Turn on heat haze in the games graphics settings. It seems to be required for the REST UI fix to work.
  • Press HOME to open ReShade, or change the key to something else if needed. Add a toggle key for effects in settings as well.
  • Select the KenshiEnhancedVanilla preset.
  • REST with the UI fix should already be enabled in the add-ons tab, but if not, activate it here: Add-ons > Reshade Effect Shader Toggler > List of Toggle Groups > Kenshi
