thank you for answering, but please answer why the saves aren't appearing? I put them with my saves then nothing appears when I click load. must I start a new campaign or not have a save in the first slot?
Is your version of the game on steam or gamepass? also are you able to replace the rest of the files I uploaded into your own game directory and confirm changes in a new game? because if my saves don't work for you but the edited CSV files do, it will be 100% better and faster to go with your own new game. lol, my mistake, i was reading it wrong. it was telling me veteran mode but with the mission I was currently at. I loaded it anyway and got veteran mode. everything is fine now.
First off, thank you for this great mod. This was a good tool for adjusting equipment statistics.
Now I'm experimenting with changing character stats, as well as other game stats and I'm struggling a bit. (for example, when I wish to change the level, the exp or the number of kill etc...).
I therefore have one question and one request:
Question: Can you explain what the character "callsign" stands for? (When I searhed for heros name's, like Gabe or Mikayla in the hexedit, I found to many results)
Request: It would be very useful, if you could upload the unedited version of your save file, I mean the exact same file before it was edited. Because if I have both files, I can compare them side by side and immediately learn the position of the variables. At the same time, accelerate the learning process and memorisation.
At the moment, I'm editing the save file from "NEW GAME - Jacked + DLC". After that I wish to work on the save from "END GAME - Jacked + DLC".
Anyway, I really enjoy your work and if you have some free time to help, it will be really appreciated.
Callsign in Gears Tactics just means the nickname/team-name given to your units. Helps when hex editing to have a Unique callsign assigned to your soldier because you'd be able to find that unit faster. So if your unit's name is for example "Benjamin >DELTA-ONE< Carmine", you'd search for "DELTA-ONE" in the Hex editor, his full name should be a few lines above & his stats will be a few lines below (Like this).
Campaign characters (Sid/Mikayla/Reyna etc) are trickier to find because you can't give them callsigns usually it's best to edit their stats earlier in the game if you know what you're looking for, or just leave them as they are.
- It wouldn't make a difference to have an unedited save and compare it to an edited one, the data is always stored the same way. If you really want an unedtied save, you could just start a fresh campaign, get as far as I did in the first act and compare it.
Start by editing something simple, like health/movement-range. (it will make more sense when you get used to it) - amount of kills doesn't matter in any way, those are just trivial stats. - if you're trying to level your units up faster, FLING already has a trainer for that.
I appreciate your clarification concerning the callsigns and as you pointed out, campaign characters are hard to find, that why I get confuse trying to find theirs callsigns.
About comparing saves files, I already did what you advise me to do. The problem is that there is to much differences between 2 saves, even if they are both in the same act/chapter. they become unusable for me, because there is so much to parse. With the original unedited saves, only the variables that you have manually edited will be differentes.
But I know my request was not very realistic because their is very little chance that people keep stuff like that after they finish their work. (that would have been awesome if you had it though)
And I understand why you point that out, when you know the position of all the data in the file, it become pretty simple. It just take some time I think.
Then, after spending a couple of hours already, I have figured out how to do the simple stuff (HP, movement) because your explanation was clear enought to begin with.
There is a lot of work done on your "new game plus" save, so I want to keep it as a base, because I have no clue how you unlock all the equipements of the game (X100). And I wanted to do some tweaks, like lowering the level of the characters.
I have downloaded and check the Fling trainer and maybe I can use it in some way.
I will continue my investigation into the Hexa code, If you have any more advises, I will gladly listen to them.
I've been working on this all night for like 12 hours almost I have figured out that Gabe in the files is Gabriel and the bit with is four so look for F4 01 at the beginning of the game for health on Mikayla, Gabe and Jack I changed jack to 13 89 it gives him 35k health so he will never die
So I have been to every website and searched for a video to show me the proper files for save location they are non existant for Xbox Game Pass even the cloud doesn't have them so it looks like this has been fixed where ya can't do it
Ok I know now that your save name is different than my save name mine was a bunch of random characters so I opened them up in the HxD editor to see which correlated with which and renamed your files and when I did it deleted all six files when I booted the game and I lost all my progress and If I have to restart I will flag this mod make a video showing how to do it properly
this is an awesome save game. thank you very much for the insight into what's possible.
I do have some questions though: - Is it possible to change a hero's class? eg. Sid or Cole to Heavy (that's the only class which doesn't have a hero). - can we please have a Jacked version of this save without everyone already maxed out (maybe like level 2 or 3 on act 1 mission 5 would be nice).
- Yes & No. It is possible to change a character's class, but only the weapon will change and you can only do it once/twice using the hex method. (Not recommended but it's fun, might release the method at some point) - If you want a specific type of New Game, you're better off making it yourself. I've made my edits primarily for people who already beat the game but don't want to slog through the entire campaign again without some additional incentive. so if you want a barebones run, just apply what you want from the README to your own.
- good to know that potentially even changing the class (even if its just the weapon) is possible. will be keen to hear how that works - I've made the edits myself using what you have shared. I think I've got a hang of the structure somehow, just can't figure out the pattern on what determines the class
Hi, I was just curious, if I have a game already in progress is there a way to modify the save with the hexidecimal editing to unlock Cole? I know you've provided that in the saves you provided, I was just trying to figure out how to do it in my already in progress save if possible. Thanks.
Unfortunately no, that's why I uploaded it in the first place. Think of it this way, there's a checkpoint trigger in the first Act in order to unlock cole, however if the game can't register the content for whatever reason, then you wont be able to get him for that playthrough. It's a common issue that was never fixed.
Hex editing can only manipulate data that is already present in the save, so adding cole wouldn't be as simple as changing a 0->1 his information would have to be put in there by the game first, and manually injecting extra info will just make your game freeze/crash/unplayable.
I'd recommend just applying what you learn to a new run, it's overall more fun because you have more access to extra content you would have been otherwise locked out of.
- DLC Cole-Train, steam players had issues unlocking him because steam+xbox compatability issues. - There are 6 rarities in the game Common/Uncommon/Rare/Epic/Legendary/Supreme you wont ever see Uncommon because it was hidden, I simply put it back on the reward list along with every other item you can get in the game, just finish the final chapter of any given Act and you will get them all, vanilla game wont give you all the items, so you'd spend more time trying to track stuff down just to find out something is missing.
All I did is made all the content available, so you can pick and choose what you want without missing out on stuff.
Ah thanks, I already owned Cole Train since I bought the game when it first came out on Steam but the Uncommon gear stuff did look unfamiliar (just did the tutorial/first mission with your loot table edits and was just about to alter the roster size value on the new save file before continuing the campaign)
Was looking back at this page after my earlier run where I edited the roster size and was itching to replay it again with more drastic mods, and yeah I wanted to get all the armor anyways for fashion/screenshot purposes.
Thanks again for the wonderful mod and tutorial stuff, very much appreciated in shaking up the game.
By any chance how does one adjust Roster Size specifically? I've looked around for terms and such in the CSV files but I can't find anything for roster stuff.
It wont be in the CSV files, it's in your game save. I left that part out because I figured people wouldn't care about roster size with all the special soldiers.
If you want to edit your roster size, here's what you're lookin' for: SoldierRosterSize.....IntProperty................. = "second offset after 04" change it to 1E (30) Here's a visual example Here's the offset you edit

I have been looking to simply unlock Cole but have not found a way yet.

Only one thing bothers me - soldier levels are maxed out.
Wish I could play from level 1 :-(
Why the jacked new game saves are at act 1 mission 5?
Could you post a tutorial save?
