The "Multicultural Midgar" mods (2.1) are now compatible with the new game version (1.004/1.005). However, this is just a hotfix (I had to remove the lipsync files).
The issue is a straightforward "Serial size mismatch" in the lipsync files, which is relatively easy to fix but would require editing over 10000 uasset files. Honestly, I don’t have the motivation for that now ! So to fix the problem more easily/quickly, I decided to simply remove the lipsync files from the mods. After some testing, I found this doesn’t have a major impact on the overall experience.
For now, the mods will remain as they are, without "correct" lipsync. If I ever find the patience—or an alternative solution—I might fix this in the future.
Obligatory: I'm not white. Now that that's out of the way...
When I first saw this I kind of laughed. I'm not one for the "Multicultural/Diversity" mods people are trying to shoehorn in games now. I prefer to enjoy the game as it was intended in the bigger picture. Yes I like a few gameplay ones (or giving TIfa short pink hair as an example) on occasions. But I would rather just hear people in the most common language (as most games have something akin to "common" or "basic") or trade language of the game world because it's easy. And having "minorities" in the slums creating what could be looked at as ethnic neighborhoods (cause it's gotta be only the white people living topside amirite?) just sounds like a can of worms in most cases.
However...having watched the video demonstrating the mod...I gotta say I actually love the mod for Yuffie and Sonnon. Similarly love the Madam M one. I think they do the characters well since the voices are so similar sounding, and because people do drop back into their native language when "emotional" as you said. I have enough family and have had enough women that could flip between languages on a dime. So it felt like a fantastic fit overall.
I'm definitely not so much a fan of the French and German ones though. Andrea does still sound good, but the voices are just way off on the German and it is too jarring between Cloud and Tifa.
Anyway, you made me a believer and I will be using at least half of this mod and appreciating all your work.
Hey ! Thank you for the mod, I was wondering if it was somehow compatible with the "less grunting sounds" mod that lower the volume of the weird noises characters make in cutscenes, or will the mods clash ?
I've been wishing for a mod like this since forever!!! I use the team from wutai version and it was so immersive and felt really organic and natural. 100% recommended!
When I first saw this, I almost rolled my eyes. Then I really thought about it. This is a fantastic idea, Midgar is a huge city, cloud ant tifa are both from a place called nibelheim, yuffie is from a place called wutai, this makes so much sense I can't believe it wasn't just put in game by the devs. Of course there would be different languages spoken, fantastic idea.
Just started playing with this and Tifa was still speaking english in the first flashback that plays in Mako Reactor 1. I don't have any other mods that touch the same files, so I don't know what I could be doing wrong. I installed through Vortex
First off, what an amazing response time, what the hell? So I finally got to Tifa, and the mod does seem to work. The flash back in question is the very first in the game. Cloud POV with Tifa asking if he's ignoring him. It plays after Jessie asks if Cloud and Tifa are...close
I was writing my next mod page, and I saw your comment a few minutes after you posted it!
I found the problem, that is when there is a cinematic... It allowed me to find two more scenes with missing lines. I’m fixing this, I’ll have to upload the new version in the evening I think, or tomorrow.
Out of curiosity, is it possible to have the background npcs all speak a set language and any other character that has subtitles to speak another? I greatly prefer the Japanese voice acting, but all the people i pass by don't have subtitles and i'd like to be able to have them in English. Can this be accomplished currently if i set my language to Japanese and use the Multilingual citizens of Midgar with English?
Hi! It doesn’t work that way. If your game is in Japanese audio + you have the Multilingual citizens of Midgar mod = the citizens speak mostly japanese, 25% french and german, and a small minority speak english. How does Multilingual citizens mod works with a game in japanese audio ? Street NPCs who speak english if you use the game with english audio finally speak japanese for you, and those who speak japanese if you use the game with english audio finally speak english for you. So it won’t have the effect you want ! It's written on the modpage, please read mod description. Maybe I misunderstood your problem but ... If you problem is just you want understand what the street/background npcs says when your game is in audio japanese, why don’t you just activate the chatlog option ? It's a subtitle option for ambient conversations (after the "Subtitle" option in the option menu).
Hello, I have a question, there is a scene with Madam. M in the Colosseum after the finale she learns that there is one more fight and she is so angry that she starts cursing and unfortunately in the German version the swear words are accompanied by a beep. In the English and French versions there is no beep and you can hear the swear words. Would it be possible to remove the beep in the German version so that you can hear the swear words?
I just looked quickly. There is audio censorship in German and Japanese audio localization. The "beep" is not a separate file from the dialog, it is integrated. And it is very strong and long. I don’t even know if there’s the recorded dialogue below the beep. I think the possibility of recovering the conversation clean is very low. Not with my skills. There’s nothing I can do.
Also the Japanese version? How come it's censored in the original version but not in the English and French versions? Maybe it's not censorship and was done that way on purpose?
So there is only one way to restore it. By creating a new audio file.
I have no idea why it is like that. Other characters (Barret) also use many more insults (in French and English anyway) and are not beeping as far as I know.
I am currently trying to learn how to use the tool "xVASynth 2", it could be a solution to create this file. I may be able to create this file as a first practice with this tool. But no idea when.
I have try but the result is bad. Because the sentence is very expressive, and the software not made for German or Japanese I suppose... So there’s nothing I can do sorry.

I just looked and indeed it is missing these lines... I will that and upload a new version soon.
Thanks for your report, I may have forgotten more lines, if you find more missing lines during flashback later, please report to me !

Too bad, but thanks for at least trying!

But whether you get it right or not, just for your effort I'm grateful!
Thank you so much!
