Description:

I mostly made this for myself but ended up liking it so I decided to expand it with a few extra options and share it. Read 'Why I made this mod' at the bottom if you are curious what drove me to make a mod that gives such a tiny bonus for such an overlooked item.

To keep the information somewhat organized, I color coded it in this way:
- Orange: refers to either 'regular' or 'alternative' versions of the mod to differentiate how the perks treat Dogmeat as a companion.
- Light-blue: refers to the 'Love... Love Never Changes' and 'Better Together' perks given by the weddings rings in any of the versions.
- Magenta: just separates the versions into two groups 'Group A' and 'Group B', whether you can equip both rings at the same time or not.

The mod gives each wedding ring a perk that is added (or removed) whenever you equip/unequip them:

- Wedding Ring - Mine: gives the "Love... Love Never Changes" perk while equipped (Gain +2% XP when adventuring without a companion.)

- Wedding Ring - Spouse: gives the "Better Together" perk while equipped (Gain +2% XP when adventuring with a companion.)

Other changes:

- Each ring has its own texture now, retextures are included in the installer (they are 2K and provided by Xazomn's mod), you can pick the style you want for your ring and for your spouse's.
- Both rings now have a legendary slot (just a quality of life addition in case you are using a mod that supports adding legendary mods, by itself the slot does nothing).

While +2% XP might not seem like much, considering you get your wedding rings at the very beginning of the game for free, I figured giving them a tiny bonus that would still benefit you throughout the entire game might prove useful but non-intrusive, without making other items you find during game less important (like Bobbleheads for example).

There is an item already in the game that gives you +2% XP which is the Squirrel Stew, but the effects don't last long (120 minutes) and I didn't want to have to keep multiple copies in my inventory, or constantly remind myself to eat it, so now the rings will give you this tiny buff constantly without the hassle of having to keep eating the stew.

It's a flat +2% XP bonus, depending on whether you play as a Lone Wanderer or as a charismatic survivor that is followed by one or more companions.

Wearable Slots:
- You have different versions to choose from in the installer:
· Group A versions (Regular or Alternative) keep both wedding rings using the same vanilla slot, the intention here is for the player to have to make a choice on which one to wear at any given time and to make changing them a conscious decision (for role playing purposes mostly, you can still equip/unequip them freely).
· Group B versions (Regular or Alternative) allow you to wear both wedding rings at the same time, for those that don't want to have to manually swich between them whenever they hire/dismiss a companion. The rings will still work individually and won't conflict with each other (benefit won't stack though, as you are adventuring with or without a companion at any given time so both clauses can't be true at the same time).

So now regardless of which version you install you have a good reason to keep both wedding rings in your inventory and they won't be completely useless (well, just barely).

Versions:

I made four versions (you can only choose one in the installer), and I've divided them into two groups:

Group A (you can only equip 1 ring at a time)

Both wedding rings share the same equippable slot (slot 51, same as vanilla) so you have to equip one or the other (you can still switch rings during the game), comes in two flavors:

- Regular version: the perks attached to the wedding rings treat Dogmeat as a companion, this is how vanilla game treats Dogmeat normally.
- Alternative version: the perks attached to the wedding rings don't consider Dogmeat a companion. *

Group B (you can equip both rings at the same time)

Both wedding rings can be equipped at the same time since they have different equippable slots (your ring has slot 51, you spouse's ring has slot 54), also comes in two flavors:

- Regular version: same perks as above, this version just allows you to constantly keep both rings equipped.
- Alternative version: same perks as above, this version just allows you to constantly keep both rings equipped. *

* The 'Alternative' versions are for those of you like me who like playing with mods like Everyone's Best Friend that restore the original intention of Dogmeat not being a 'real' companion (which is how the Lone Wanderer perk actually works, check here).

To clarify further, with the Alternative versions any of the wedding rings perks will just ignore Dogmeat and assume he isn't with you, which means you will have to find another companion for the Better Together perk to kick in. Note that this version doesn't change whether Dogmeat counts as a companion globally in the game, it just makes the perks attached to the wedding rings specifically ignore Dogmeat.

Some Technical Information:

- ESP flagged as ESL (doesn't count towards your ESP limit).

- IMPORTANT: If you are wearing one of the rings when you install the mod you will have to unequip and re-equip it for the perk to appear in your Pipboy (if at any point you don't see the perks, just re-equip the rings and they should show up, unless you are in Power Armor, see 'Known Issues' below).

- If you think 2% XP is too little and want to change it:

Open the plugin in FO4Edit, find the two perks I have added and change the float multiplier from 1.02 to whatever you want, 1.02 means it will give you +2% XP whenever you earn experience, so for example 1.05 means it will give you +5% XP. After that remember to change the perk descriptions to match your changes, save and you are done. If you want to test if it's working correctly you can use console command: CGF "Game.RewardPlayerXP" 100 (to give yourself 100 XP for example, take into account other bonuses like INT or other items you might have that affect XP gain).

- Your spouse's wedding ring was given slot 54 in the Group B versions, your own wedding ring has slot 51 in all versions.

- 2K Textures included, individual textures for your ring is achieved through material swap.

- If don't have your wedding rings anymore and want them back use the following commands:
Your wedding ring: player.additem 0008925c
Spouse's wedding ring: player.additem 0007c70c

- This mod won't have much effect in your game if you are playing with a mod that reduces the amount of XP you earn drastically, as the XP gained will be rounded down (still, every little bit helps).

- Added a legendary slot to each ring.

If you don't like this you can open the plugin in FO4Edit and remove the ap_Legendary [KYWD:001E32C8] keywords from the APPR - Keyword records, do this for each ring and you're done, no more legendary slot. The FormID for each ring are: 0008925C for your ring, and 0007C70C for your spouse's ring

Installation:

- Install using your mod manager of choice and pick the version you want (fomod installer).
- ESP flagged as ESL (doesn't count towards your ESP limit).
- No DLC required.
- Load after any mod that edits the wedding rings.

Compatibility:

I'll list here a couple of mods I'm using myself that I was able to check for compatibility, I figured I should mention them somewhere. Feel free to share in the comments section if a given mod is compatible or not as I won't be testing for specific compatibilities or making patches:
- Everyone's Best Friend: compatible, just use any 'Alternative' versions of my mod when installing it, load order doesn't matter between both mods.
- Simple Clothing Keywords: both mods effectively add the same legendary slot keyword to the rings, so the changes from Simple Clothing Keywords won't be lost, but you have to load my mod after SimpleClothingKeywords.esl plugin for my ring perks to work.

Known Issues:

- This is a technical limitation of how Bethesda hardcoded equipping Power Armor as far as I can tell: when you equip Power Armor, the game automatically unequips all your regular armor (including rings), which means the ring perk is removed. Once you exit Power Armor, your regular armor is automatically re-equipped so the perk will be active again. Unfortunately there's nothing I can do to bypass this, so the perk benefits will only apply while you are exploring without Power Armor (which, depending on your playtstyle, may or may not be a big part of your playthrough).

Why I made this mod:

I was looking for a mod that gives a minor bonus to the wedding rings, these are the first items you get and I feel they should have been more special as items considering what they represent, but they don't do anything, they just sit there in your inventory.

The majority of mods I've found either give them SPECIAL stat bonuses, which I don't like (SPECIAL stats increases used to be hard to find/earn in the older Fallout games, you get these two rings for free so it didn't feel like a stat buff was appropriate), or other mods add huge buffs that make them pretty much cheat items, which is fine if you like that but it's not what I was looking for.

I wanted something more subtle that represents the bond and shared experience the main character had with his/her (now late) spouse. Adding a minor XP bonus that helps you earn a few more XP here and there every once in a while felt like a good approach, it's not going to break your game but it'll be useful until the end, and it gives a good reason to keep both wedding rings in your inventory (whether you wear them at the same time or not).

Lastly, I also wanted a one-size-fits all pack that has retextures for the rings, so I included Xazomn's textures in my mod since they have open permissions to be included.

Credits:

- leo2link: his mod helped me figure out how to implement the XP bonus to the rings, thanks for that, I actually learned a lot from your mod.
- Jchamlin: after watching his SPECIAL Wedding Rings mod I sort of realized what I wanted to do with my mod so reading his description helped me (go check out his mod if you prefer the wedding rings to give you stat bonuses instead).
- Xazomn: for allowing us to use the wedding ring textures shared here.
- Eddie Mendoza: credit goes to him for the mod title image (it's his Arcane Signet art).
