Looks like we've stumbled upon a curious little hiccup in the world of Fallout 4. But don't worry, I've got it sorted out for you! Flagged as ESL

TLDR:
So, here's the scoop: it turns out there was a tiny glitch where the 'none' color, assigned to the lipstick slot for female humans, had an alpha value of 1 instead of 0. Now, normally, 'none' should mean just that—nothing. But because of this alpha value mix-up, we ended up with some unintended black lipstick action. And believe it or not, this little quirk has been hanging around since the game's debut! It's a head-scratcher for sure. Further explanation below.

Which one??:
You will now see the requirements and any notes of each optional download in the Files section.

Compatibility:
This overwrites the Race>HumanRace formID. Any mod that ONLY add or removes records from this formID will need a patch, but that is pretty rare in my experience with FO4. Any other mod that just has an overwrite of this record with no changes can be above this patch.

  • After Checking another pip-boy replacer, I confirmed this patch is compatible with other replacers, not just pip-pad. So, I uploaded an optional combined patch that doesn't have (or need) a pip-anything requirement. Still place at bottom of load order.

Please post any request for patches/combination of patches in the BUGS section!

Further Explained:
As you can see from xedit, the 'none' slot has the alpha value of 1, this should have been a 0. Also I included black in the screen shot to show that is untouched, you can still have black lipstick as an actual color choice. This just fixes an actual bug that has been over looked for 9 years!

As for why it suddenly started showing up with mods introduced, well, your guess is as good as mine.
  • This bug happens when a female makeup set doesn't include a Lipstick in the records or logs or however you want to think of it. This happens with presets too. When you have npcs or looks presets that don't have a lipstick record from (vanilla) then it will spawn as the "none" color, and since the none color has the RGB values all set to 0 then with the alpha value of 1 would result in the color being black.

Any other fix seemed to not get to the core of this bug. This fix FIXES that core, so other patch mods that have this same effect should no longer be needed (Still endorse them though)

Additionally:
  • I changed the "Lip color" under the blemish options to have a "none" color by default (was Pale color before and added itself to presets) This is also a fix, as there was no "none" color option for the game to fall back on, this now allows that.

  • I also changed the default Brow to "average" this fixes any npcs replacers and look presets that didn't choose a brow option to look better. The default option was "Thin rounded" as the default fallback option. This cause most npcs and presets to look undesirable if no brow option is defined.

  • Just make sure this fix is snug at the bottom of your load order. It only affects the Human Race formid, so you can rest easy knowing there won't be any unexpected surprises. Crisis averted, and back to smooth sailing in the Commonwealth!

I'm going insane.

Permissions
If you are creating a mod that edits the HumanRace FormID you have full permission to look at the vanilla changes I did and copy them over. BE AWARE any other user after that will need a patch and combination of patches for their mods. So, you are fully welcome to include my edits into your mods, but I encourage mod authors to reach out to me and let me know their mod will need a patch as well as combinations of patches.
Thank you.
