First major content update is now out! I've added twelve new notes (and an edit for one additional vanilla note) that you can find, for a total of twenty-two bits of brand new flavor text scattered through the game, with topics running the spectrum from bleak tragedy in the face of imminent annihilation to some lighter present-day stuff, some of which even involve existing NPCs.

We've got some ace-content in there this time around (gotta represent my people!) as well as one explicitly for our bi/pan/poly folk. And a brand-new bloodstained-paper-texture for one note drawn up by yours truly. (I kept the blood-splatter mostly to the edges, so it shouldn't get in the way of reading it, but let me know if you have problems.)

Thank you for all the kind words so far, everyone, and I hope you all enjoy the new notes! Stay spectacular!

FYI, I just released another lore-notes mod, this one all contained in Vault 111 to give a little more flavor to the beginning of the game. If you're enjoying this mod, go check out that one too! It was actually originally going to be part of my Queering Fallout stuff, but I realized as I was making it that Vault 111 was so blank of a slate that I had to get a little more expansive with it instead of just adding queer-content lol. But of course there are plenty of queer people who exist(ed) there, too!

Okay I know Fallout4 doesn't see anywhere near Skyrim download numbers, but I cannot help but be unduly excited by this anyway, check it out y'all:

We're in the hot mods! Up to slot #2 now, what! That's ridiculous. I'm so happy right now. Thank you so much to everyone who endorsed!

I'll admit, I'm normally one to skim notes and books in games for the basic idea then move on, but I sat down and read the entirety of the journal in Sanctuary, and I seriously almost cried. This mod is incredible, amazing work.

@Tathrin Hello again. I hope the new year finds you well. It is a hell of a start, but I hope you are doing well. 😊

I have a location that might work for another lore letter, if you are interested and still doing them.

The location is in Concord as one of the Vanilla locations in which we can enter. It is called 'Workhouse. It is a 4-story building with all of the interior floors collapsed.
Inside there is a female skeleton leaning against a dufflebag with a baby rattle next to her.
On the top floor, there are 2 skeletons within the office with a desk and safe, and broken terminal.

One of the skeletons is a dressed male, who is strangling a (presumably) nude man just as the bombs dropped.

The inference is that one man killed the other because he got the female pregnant (and he may have been caught in the "act of love" as he has no clothes).

The reason I'm writing is a different story occurred to me at this location, with regards to your lovely mod.

What if the clothed skeleton is the owner/manager of this workhouse. He fell in love with, and had "relations" with his foreman (the nude skeleton). They had been romantic for many months until October 23, 2077 in which the owner/manager discovers that his foreman has actually been sleeping with the owner's secretary, and got her pregnant.
Feeling betrayed by his lover, who may have been sleeping with the owner to rise through the company ranks, the owner kills him in a jealous rage.

Then the bombs hit freezing their struggle for 200 years.

    Just a thought.

I look forward to your next update of letters and notes.
This is such a wonderful, and needed mod.
Thank you for creating it. 🌈

Great mod!  I'm a sucker for stuff that adds small stories to find in the world like this.  I hope you end up just writing more general lore notes, as I think the game benefits from that a ton and your writing meshes with the ingame writing well.

Thank you! I'm delighted to hear that. And if you haven't downloaded it yet, I'll recommend my Backstory Lore for Vault 111 mod, as that does exactly what you're looking for I think, albeit only in one specific area so far. I'm so pleased you're enjoying the Fallout-ish writing-style!

@Tathrin I have found another location that should work for your notes.
It is south of downtown Boston. *Just* north of Big John's Salvage. You can find it by going to the Boston Police Rationing Site and follow the railway tracks East until the end at the crater.
Or go North from Big John's.

It is a large radioactive crater with about 5-6 flying bugs.
There is a scrap shack built at the bottom of the crater, along the shore of irradiated water.

Within the shack are 2 female ghoul bodies sitting next to each other on the couch. Non-feral.
According to VATS they were both raiders.

That could be a place to have a note or two for these women who probably died due to the 3-4 bloatflies, a bloodbug or 2, and a stingwing.
Moreover that than from the radiation.

    I hope this helps. 🌈

    I just found Coach Westing's note. 😁👍

I never expected it. I found it because it was next to  magazine from Ketaros New Magazines mod. It was perfect sitting next to each other.
It is dark out (in the game, so I nearly missed it. Had I not grabbed the magazine and had the note highlight, I think I would have missed it.

    Such a great letter. 😇

I look forward to finding more.
This is such a wonderful addition to the game. Thank you. 🌈

Ahhh thank you! That was one of my favorites to do tbh, I'd really thought there was going to be more backstory to Coach Westing and his estate, so I couldn't resist the chance to do something to make him feel a little more "real" in the game. I'm glad you liked it—and found it! So happy to hear you're enjoying the mod.

I like this. Much as I like The Machine and Her, I do like the idea that the project's decidedly (and darkly) heteronormative oppression which led to A.G.N.I.S. should be more clearly deviant from the true Pre-War norm. With this mod, that becomes possible.

That's wonderful! I'd not actually heard of that mod before, but now I'm intrigued, going to have to put that into my game at some point, thank you. And I'm so glad that this one could help with some immersion on that one, too! I love when things work together like that. Thank you!

@Tathrin I just started a brand new Profile on MO2 (A Desert Ranger cowgirl) and felt now was a good time to grab your mod. 😁
As I was looking over the Description page to see where you suggest this mod be placed in the Load Order, I saw, located in 'Credits', my name as location scout. 😲

Thank you so very much! That is so kind of you. 🤗🌈

I shall continue scouting for you, My Dear. 😊

(Oh, and I have a Scrapping mod located at the bottom of my load order. Under the separator called 'Framework Bottom', where Previsbine Repair Packs go [if I used them], and Place Everywhere, as well as Scrapping Tools. I use a scrapper from Bethesda called S.C.A.P. - Settlement Cleaning Reveals Absolute Perfection. Yes, SCAP, because Bethesda is afraid "Crap" is an evil word that will destroy children. 🙄.
Anyway, I placed your mod beneath SCAP. It is not as harsh as Scrap Everything, but it is as close as I wanted to get to SE without breaking my game. Potentially. 😊
I assume that is a good location. If it should go somewhere else, let me know.
Than you, again, for the lovely honor you gave me in the credits. 🤗

Credit where credit is due, and you've been EXTREMELY helpful, thank you! 🌈

As for load-order (I'm still laughing about "C.R.A.P." being inappropriate for Bethesda's eyes for their mature blow-people-apart-with-guns-game lmao) I see you're using the "Nate and Nora" version of the mod, so I'll just upload an updated file for that one too, then it won't matter where in your load-order it goes. Give me a few minutes to boot up the CK and get that packaged for you; then your Desert Ranger can Cowgirl all over the wasteland to her heart's content 😉😊

That is sweet of you. Thank you. 🤗

Yes, I have one character, Cherise Wells, The Bicen-General of the Minutemen, who is from before the War and came from the Cryo-Vault.
However, I play her as Nate is her brother and Shaun is her nephew.
Cherise and Nate both have military training. She went into the National Guard for a few years, then left to get her law degree, paid for by the military.
Nate went into the Army itself.

He married after leaving the Army, but his wife had a hard time being married to him after he came back. And she didn't like the idea of being a mother. So she left Nate and Shaun behind.

Nate then asked Cherise is she could help him out. She happily agreed and said they could use her spare bedroom in her house at Sanctuary Hills.

Shortly after he moved in the bombs fell.

Cherise never found the right woman love. Too busy for a while, then work, then bombs.
But she eventually does find Heather Casdin in the wasteland. And love blossoms.

That was my Vanilla game way to explain why Cherise is not *quite* so extreme about finding Shaun. As well as being lesbian. Since the game itself gives so many distractions away from finding him.
He is still on her mind. But she figures he was probably killed after being taken.
She mourns for her brother, and has set up a memorial to him and Shaun.
But she did not have a strong connection to her nephew.

Anyway, that is for the one character of mine who was pre-war.
The rest of my characters are using the Start Me Up Redux mod to start as someone who was not from 2077. The majority of them are Gay/Lesbian or Bi/Poly (I have a lot of characters. 20? 30?) 😊

The point of all of that is to say that your mod is a welcome addition to my games.
I look forward to updating (or deleting and reinstalling) the updated Nate and Nora version.

Thank you, again, for your kindness. 🌈🤗

Oh what a good backstory idea, I love it! An extremely clever way to work around the setup they gave us, and make it your own. Brilliant.

(Also: absolutely "same here" on the making-lots-of-characters thing. I cannot stop myself making new ones, I'll do it at the drop of a hat. It's just fun! Which I guess is why I ended up spending enough time in Vault 111 to get frustrated enough by its blandness to have to make a whole mod just for it lol.)

Is there any known incompatibilities with this mod yet? cuz i installed it and then could not get my game to even start up, would crash after a few seconds.
granted, my modlist is stupidly long, so this could be a me issue but its still odd.

i *did* however get it to work with my setup by setting its plugin order group to "late fixes and changes" through Vortex and had it run its autosort.
i have no remote idea why that made it work, but in the off chance that its doing the same things for you as it is me, try that i guess?

No, that is extremely weird. I genuinely cannot fathom what sort of mod would be that incompatible with this, given that all it does is scatter some clutter around existing cells. There's nothing in it to conflict on that level. At worst, you'll run into visual wonkiness in places where I've placed the letters if you have another mod that edits the same cell: floating notes, weird lighting flickers, etc.

That is supremely weird. Especially because it was fixed by making it a late loader, which means it must be conflicting on a much deeper level with something...

Could you open your modlist up in FO4Edit and see what mod(s) show conflicts with the cells/worldspace this one edits? Maybe you have some large overhaul that injudiciously deletes (instead of disables) parts of the landscape, and it's making the game freak-out when this mod looks and can't find them? If we can figure out what mod it is, I might be able to make a patch, or at least post a compatibility warning for folks.

Cant say ive ever used Fo4edit, so not entirely sure how to read this stuff,  like I'm going through the Worldspace stuff and am getting some red indicators, which mainly seem to be coming from Sanctuary Hills.
but I'm not sure what I'm looking at, or looking for

If you opened all your current plugins in FO4Edit (the default state where everything is checked when you first open the program) those red worldspace edits should show at least one other mod also when you click on them, on the top entry of the right hand side.

It should read something like "[00] Fallout4.esm" - "[##]OtherMod.esp" - "[##]QueeringFallout.esp." That will show you all the mods currently affecting that specific area.

What mod (or mods) are listed there, along with QueeringFallout.esp?

so what its showing for me, just for the sanctuary ones
      unofficial fallout 4 patch.esp | seasons.esm | DoYourDamJobCodsworth.esp | sanctuary roof navmesh edit.esp | scrap everything- core.esp and then ofc this mod

scrap everything is the only one with red on its actual name, which carries over to SpectacleIslands worldspace as well, if that means anything
And theres various combined meshes and a few references that are marked red down the list too, no clue what it means

Ooooh yeah, I've heard that Scrap Everything can cause problems with stuff, that makes sense. I don't know enough about how that mod is set up to make a guess as to specifically what the problem is (could just be the dreaded precombines), but you could try carrying the edited entries over into this mod (or making yourself a patch to carry them past it) and see if that takes care of the issue — or if it doesn't bother you, you can just leave this mod set to load later, and overwrite that little section of Scrap Everything, since that seems to be working for you!

Thank you for the testing and the information.

I would think that whatever conflicts exist would simply be in places where it's modified. For example, the one book in Sanctuary is gonna look awkwardly place considering all of the mods that change how Sanctuary looks.

@wolffe02: I wanted to let you know that we've figured out how to fix the Scrap Everything issue, and there's a replacement esp in the UPDATES section of the files now that takes care of the problem, if you want it!

      Alright cool.
still dont know how a scrapping mod manages to mess up so many things, i guess that's Bethesda modding in a nutshell. but hey atleast its fixed now
