  • TUTORIAL: Modify Weather Chances

Hey all, here's a quick tutorial to modify weather chances.  It's the same process in FO4 and Skyrim/SSE.

    Load xEdit (SSEEdit / FO4Edit)
Make sure there are no conflicts with True Storms and other mods (look up how to resolve conflicts and patches in xEdit, I won't cover that here)
Look for REGION records.  In each one, under Weather Types, you'll see records for each weather that can be in that region. The values are:
    Weather (the weather ID)
    Chance (the... chance!)
    Global (always null)
All you need to do is edit the chances but make sure all values should total 100.  For example: Clear 25, Cloudy 25, Fog 25, Rain 25 = 100.
It's a good idea to update the Climate records as well, as these are fallback when th...

  • Glowing Sea VANILLA BUGS I fixed in v1.31

There are two significant bugs in the Glowing Sea that I discovered while testing this mod.  Both of these bugs were reported as issues with this mod, but turned out to be vanilla bugs.

If you visit the Glowing Sea wearing Power Armor, and exit the power armor while any of the radstorms are happening, you will permanently receive radiation protection even if you're naked, making the Glowing Sea give you less than 1 rad per second.  This persists forever, unless you equip and unequip a Hazmat suit.
If you fast travel between any two locations in the Glowing Sea, radiation damage will completely STOP until the weather changes again.  This can be a long time!

Both of these issues were fixed by simply adding proper conditions.  If you exit your Power A...

  • How Fog Filters Work

Some people have reported that the fog filters are not working, but the issue comes down to a perceptual one, unless the scripts aren't firing at all, which is a local/configuration issue, not a bug.

You can tell if they're working as intended if they stop radiation damage during rad storms when you're nearby.

If you watch the video, there are extra "blowing / rolling fog" effects that attach to the camera that persist when inside exterior structures (i.e. a settlement-made structure.) The fog filter turns those off when it's placed inside a settlement structure, and also stops radiation from damaging you if you're in their vicinity, so you can get some shelter from rad storms.

Please note that it does not turn off the reg...

  • Uninstall Procedure

    UNINSTALL PROCEDURE.

Sad to see you go!  This is safe to remove at any time, but you'll have to do things in the right order or loading your save might crash.

    • Load up the last save where True Storms was active
    • Go into an interior
    • Use the True Storms Configuration holotape to TURN OFF TRUE STORMS EFFECTS.  This is critical!
    • Save the game
    • Exit the game
    • Uninstall True Storms
    • Load up the save you just made, ignoring any warnings about missing plugins
    • If the game loads fine, save one more time, and load this save going forward to progress your game.  Loading older saves w/ True Storms still active may have issues or crashes.  (This isn't something I can...

  • White / Purple / Blocky Rain

I understand you're probably annoyed by this, and that you are POSITIVE it's the mod, but let me assure you, this is because the texture or material assets are not loading due to something going wrong with the configuration, or install process.  Literally 100% of reports have been due to something going wrong with the install, the configs, or something else on the user side.  I'm not blaming you, it's just that a lot can go wrong when installing a mod!

Furthermore, NMM has a major bug where if mods are stored on a drive other than the drive where the game is installed, it will have incomplete or failed installs a lot of the time. See #2 below.

White blocks happen when the rain shader cannot find the MATERIALS or TEXTURES folders.  There are ...

  • Old Sticky Post for Posterity

The initial massive sticky post barf that I could no longer stand to look at !

IF YOU HAVE WHITE OR BLOCKY RAIN, IT'S AN INSTALL AND/OR INI PROBLEM CAUSING THE MATERIALS NOT TO LOAD, PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR SOLUTIONS.
Yes, I know your specific instance is special, but this has been reported about 114 times (not kidding), and every single time it's due to one of the issues outlined in that article.  I don't mean to sound frustrated but people keep reporting this as a bug ten times per day (also not kidding) without reading the solution here.
PLEASE CHECK THIS BEFORE HITTING THAT BUG BUTTON OR ASKING A QUESTION. IF YOU FEEL YOUR ISSUE IS NOT COVERED, LEAVE A COMMENT AND I'LL TRY TO HELP YOU DIRECTLY.  Always feel free to message me, as well! <...

  • Screen Turning White

This is a known vanilla issue that happens without the mod.  If you have wetness turned on without SSAO, you will get the all white screen whenever it rains. So if you want to turn on wetness, you also need to turn on SSAO.  Rain Occlusion must also be ON.

Oddly enough, others have said turning wetness OFF fixes the issue.  It's all over the Internet right now, Bethesda needs to patch it.  Try combinations of these settings and you should be fine.

You can see articles about this dating back to the launch of the game, for example: this link / fix on the Steam forums....

  • Manual Installation

You brave soul.  I too currently mod Fallout 4 manually (managers are not 100% perfect yet IMO) and an installer RAR can look like a maze.  Here's how to install True Storms by hand for v1.3+ and above.

First, a bit of information on what these files are!  The LITE version is for those who are experiencing audio stuttering.

Climate Options: By default, all weather chances, how long weather stays (volatility) and the time the sun goes down are vanilla in True Storms.  However, if you want more chance of diverse weather, weather to stay longer, or earlier sunset times, you can choose the plug in that has the combo you want.  Again this is optional, and is WAY easier to deal with in the installer.

Download and open the RAR installer <...

  • Not Receiving Radiation Rain Damage

Firstly make SURE you are testing with the new IDs!  The old rad rainstorm IDs no longer work as of version 1.3!  They are as follows (replace first 2 digits with your True Storms load order position):

    TrueStormsRadStormRainHeavy
    TrueStormsRadStormRainLight

Secondly, True Storms v1.3 fixes two MAJOR VANILLA bugs with radiation in the Glowing Sea that would cause radiation damage to drop or stop completely.  Make sure you're running TS v1.3 or above!

That said, there are a few reasons why this could be happening:

If you have the AQUABOY / AQUAGIRL perk, you are resistant to radiation water, which includes rain in this mod!  I may include an option to remove this restriction, but it made logical sense....

  • Installation for New Modders

Modding Fallout 4 is not something for the impatient, or the rushed.  It is VERY easy to improperly install something, or flat our break your game if you don't do everything very slowly, and properly.

I highly suggest watching either of these videos ALL THE WAY THROUGH (grab some tea, popcorn, whatever your fancy) and learn how to use NMM.

Gamerpoets - NMM Start to Finish

Gopher - Enabling Fallout 4 Mods on the PC

Be wary that some of the information about INI files is outdated in those videos, and you should ensure that your Fallout4.ini and/or Fallout4Custom.ini contain the following:

    bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
    sResourceDataDirsFinal=

This will ensure ALL folders in the /DATA/ folde...

  • How to Troubleshoot Audio Stuttering

If after trying the below, you are still experiencing issues, please fill out this very short survey / template with your system specs to help me track down the issue!

I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN FIXED IN V1.3 BUT PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR EXPERIENCE.

There appears to be a "perfect storm" combination of things -- FO4 engine weirdness, hardware configurations, application priority -- that lead to audio stuttering for some people.  This mod does use a lot of additional audio, but not a crazy amount, so this has been a "ghost in the machine".  Something about the FO4 engine goes crazy and starts causing CPU spikes, which I cannot reproduce.

For many, simply using the LITE version fixes it.  For others, seemingly nothing would fix it.  H...

  • NMM Issue: Rain "umbrella" effect / not close to character.

Some users are experiencing an issue where rain does not appear close to the character, almost as if they are under an umbrella.  Astute user bcote25 did me a massive favor by deep troubleshooting on his end, and found the problem. (Thank you!)

NMM has profiles, and the option for storing mods on a separate hard drive, both of which use a "virtual installation folder" technique for storing/loading mods.  Apparently, Fallout 4 does not always like this, and will sometimes simply not load these mods, or files packaged with these mods.  For very simple things like single ESP plug-ins it's fine, but mods like mine with many files and folders don't always work correctly.

There is a setting during installation of NMM where this functionality is se...

  • WARNING: Fallout 1.2 update disables mods, here's how to fix it

    UltimateZero (from BUSTY thread):

    !!!!! WARNING !!!!!

The Fallout 4 v1.2 patch that was released today, December 7th 2015, force disables all mods! There are TWO workarounds for this!

    The First:

    QUOTE
    1) Open Nexus Mod Manager (you will need this!
    2) launch your game, wait in the launcher before starting the game.
    3) Renable the mods using Nexus Mod Manager (you will notice launching disables them)
    4) Hit play.
(Thanks to Gameaholic, who posted this fix in the BUSTY thread.)

    The Second:
F4SE beta 1.2.37 can bypass the Fallout 4 launcher entirely, which is what's disabling the mods.

If you use Nexus Mod Manager:
