Here's additional info in case you wonder: The shield's position is relative to the mine when it "explodes", so sometimes it won't look as you anticipated.
This is extremely useful when you run across a large group of hostile NPC's, just toss it down then toss down a portable turret and you can fight any number. Try this at the hospital with all the mutants ( I get killed here a lot). Go into the entrance alcove throw out turret and shield and the suicider mutant cant blow you up. I like to use this in doorways or just out in the street to redirect Npc's into a line of fire. It takes some work (mod) to get your companions not to rush out in front though. I have friends that enjoy Fallout who occasionally help me test mods and it always aggravated me that they would just stand in the street Toe to toe with a hostile both firing point blank till someone died or ran out of ammo. This makes you think about how you want to tactically position you and your followers for an upcoming battle and use cover. It is difficult to get all you gear in position in an impromptu fight, but with hotkeys and practice you can avoid just standing there absorbing bullets and sucking down stimpacks. They don't weight much so I always carry 2 for any situation along with a portable turret. I feel this technology fits in fairly well with lore, and the level of technology available to NPC's. No technical issues, as TH says "It just works".
It's called destruction data and you can access it easily in the CK, that's all I can say about it. Take a look at other destroyable objects in the game and you should be fine.
Check this mod out then: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/25549?
Zorkaz's has one particular advantage over that one though: Zorkaz's can be destroyed by NPCs, which is cool. I would suggest that he ask that mod author to use his meshes for this updated shield mod since he doesn't have time to do it himself and thus abandoned it. That way those awesome shields can also be immersively destroyed and aren't just a wall on the fly.
