I know I may look like an ass by saying this, but I think that DEF_Hud and VIS are way better if you don't want that kind of clutter, as it saves different stuff in it's own category inside the pip boy inventory(holotapes inside a holotape folder, notes inside a note one, aid items inside an aid one, keys inside a keychain one, etc.). Just my two cents. Still, if you want a less complex version and don't like VIS, i can understand why you would use this.
This should be less likely to conflict with hud mods, or with sudden updates to the game. Personally it is exactly what I have been looking for, a way to get the keys out of the way without changing anything else.
Same. VIS was okay but I hated trying to find compatibility patches for everything that added new items or risk my inventory becoming a mismatched mess.
Do you think that if a mod adds a new key to the game that it doesn’t need a patch? Of course it does, because this mod is only for vanilla and dlc keys, not for any other mod.
So, just like VIS: you need to patch your own load order to make it work.
Exactly, also, you don't need compatibility patches as long as you know which key it uses in front of the item name, you just use xEdit, put it in front of the item and you are done, no master required.
DEF_INV is really getting annoying, and VIS even more so. First, VIS requires AKWCR; this says it just deal with armor and weapons keywords, but it actually adds new stuff (stencils, paint, maybe more). It's flaky and unsupported. I don't even want the sorting options on armor and weapons, I only want to sort misc and food/aid. VIS lets you customize so you don't have armor/weapons. But it still requires AKWCR; possibly you can work around this with a manual install. But after 3 days of fighting with it, I just want to play the game and not deal with it.
So, I try other sorting mods. BIS changes ammo weight to 0, so it's out for survival (a bug, or intentional?). Bhaal's is good and decent. But you can't get generic armor names anymore and I'm tired of the silly "leather armor | chest | light | strength | purple" names (and it's "Fortified" not "strength"!). Maybe I can get used to it but it ruins way too much of the game's feel of "Fortified Leather Chest Armor".
So... VIS is not better in the way I like to play. DEF_UI is fine, DEF_INV is good in concept but it requires other mods and none of the others do what I want or are broken, and writing my own is too much effort when I just want to play a game.
I use keynuker - it's ideal, like the FO3 keyring, and still works (though only for vanilla+dlc keys unless you manually also add its tags to any mod's keys). There are instructions for getting this older mod working in this comments section thread (inc. a contribution by me). I made the effort because I'm using a couple of UI mods including the modofonto one which says it wouldn't support Def_UI.
Originally, I used KeyNuker ... However, I found out that anything that messes with the HUD ... I mean anything ... will be at the mercy of Bethesda updates.
I used to use DEF_UI ... until I found out that this MOD makes extensive use of DLL's. This is not so good. What this means is that anytime Bethesda does an update ... (which is a lot because of Crazy Club) ... then any MOD, which require a custom DLL should also be updated.
This MOD just modifies some existing records ... this it is safer to use.
I will still continue to use F4SE and F4SE-based modes ... such as Place Everywhere and MCM ... to name a few ... this is because these MOD authors + Silverlock crew have made a firm commitment with updating their MODS.
Not exactly. There are many mods that adds key brackets to theirs added holotapes, so if you add key brackets to any key or card in the game, like the mod you commented, then the holotapes of the mods won´t be in the bottom of the pipboy -a minor issue, just scroll your mouse-, they´ll be in any place -nooo!-. Look at the second picture of this mod, beautiful. The holotape of a mod is right at the top. Is the same idea, but better. Good work by the way.
Key Brackets was a very simple mod I made to help a friend. I have no problem with this mod at all. As with all things its similar, but also different!
