  • On tonemapping and dithering modes II

As an addendum to my prior post, I'd like to highlight a few changes done for version 1.6.

After hearing many complaints about the dithering, I changed how it works. And, presto - it should be quite invisible now. Quite. But hey, your mileage may vary. To change dithering modes, you'll now want to head over to enbgamedepthoffield.fx and change UseDithering there instead. You can also re-enable it in enbeffect.fx if you have depth of field disabled in-game (or in ENB).

In fact, a few things got moved over to the depth of field file... and added. For instance, you can enable a filmic filmy film grain effect! It will grant the game the warmth of a vinyl record. And did you know what you can enable letterboxing now? It's no substitute for the console one, but it's a sta...

  • On tonemapping and dithering modes

In the past, I've seen a few people complain about graininess, or lines. Or, they think the game's too bold and contrasted. In version 1.5 I've added some new options to the enbeffect.fx file present in the enbseries folder to give a few extra options. And you can open it with any standard, raw text editor - i.e. Notepad - to change things around!

The valid settings for each option are in the comments above it. Want to give a more vanilla-like look a try? Just change #define POSTPROCESS 9 to #define POSTPROCESS 8 and restart the game - or click Apply Changes in the ENBseries GUI - to apply!

Similarly, to change the dithering type used, simply change the number next to DITHERTYPE. Using mode 3, for example, looks better on some displays, and has a finer appearanc...

  • Use headphones? Check this out!

Here's something I found by surprise - and you, too, can use it!
kosumosu's acclaimed HRTF wrapper for XAudio - the audio API used in many modern games - works with Dragon's Dogma!

Just download it here! Make sure you grab the x86 version!

But, what does it do? Well, it's simple! Actually, it's not simple at all! But the simple explanation is that it'll simulate real surround on your puny headphone speakers using a complicated algorithm. Not a good explanation? I can sympathise... Look, just check out the Wikipedia entry on HRTFs. Or, try it yourself!

For headphone users, I'd say it's an essential mod! So, what are you waiting for? Check it out!...
