About this mod

My own attempt at fixing BioWare's mess. Requires Additional Hair Tints by hakemes; everything else is included.

Alistair's vanilla face is a horrifying mess, we all know that. I know there are already quite a few fixes out there, but I wanted to try my hand at recreating my favourite royal bastard. Since I'm pretty pleased with the result, I thought I'd share.

I've included all three versions of Alistair, the Warden, the King and (Maker forbid) the drunk.

Featured in all three versions:
  • A custom complexion, one for each of his morphs. I used a combination of Ellise's unique textures as a base, and kept the eyebrows on because they looked much better than the vanilla ones.
  • Custom eyes I made myself (initially not for him, but who cares), as I didn't want him to have the same eyes as everyone else. I tried to somewhat match his Origins hazel tint and left a little bit of brown around the pupil.
  • A different skin tone, because like several other returning characters, Alistair got bleached between the two games. It comes from honestRope's Natural Skin, but since it's free to use with credit, it's already included in my .erf file.
  • A darker, less saturated hair colour, that (hopefully) looks more like the one he had in DA:O. You will need to download Additional Hair Tints by hakemes for the colour to show in-game.

Warden only:

  • (Quite literally) a couple of scratches/scars here and there, because he's a warrior.

If you don't like it, all you have to do is delete his Warden .mor file, make a copy of his King .mor file and rename it to hm_alistair_warden.

Drunk only:
  • I was aiming for a slightly scruffier and more tired look, so I gave him yellower teeth, more stubble, dark circles and red eyes. He also has slightly deeper wrinkles under the eyes, but it's barely noticeable in-game.

If you don't like it, all you have to do is delete his Drunk .mor file, make a copy of his King .mor file and rename it to hm_alistair_drunk.

Warning #1: Not entirely sure about this, but I think his skin may have been a tad lighter when I took the screenshot used for my header. There shouldn't be that much of a difference between the two tints anyway (and if he looks orange, it's because his face is lit by a fireball or something). All screenshots in the Images tab were taken more recently and show the final version.

Warning #2: I won't be taking any requests (hairstyle change, etc.) on this. Sorry. You can still tweak his morphs to your liking with pyGFF (or the DA:O Toolset).

Also, please feel free to share your screenshots! I've only met Alistair as a Warden and I'd love to see what his King and drunk selves look like in action. :)

Installation

  • If you don't already have it installed, download the main file from Additional Hair Tints by hakemes, open the .zip file and extract the HKHairTints.erf file into your override folder (usually located in My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age 2\packages\core\override).
  • Download my mod, open the .zip file and drop the Alistair folder into your override folder.

To uninstall, simply delete the Alistair folder from your override folder.

Compatibility notes and known issues

  • Obviously not compatible with mods that alter Alistair's face.

Please note that I have no way of testing the King and Drunk versions properly, as I only have save files in which he's a Warden. All I could do was stick his face on a new character and teleport via console to see what he looked like in situ. Please tell me if something isn't working properly!
