Wilderness Overhaul / Interesting Eroded Terrains doesn't function well with this mod - creating ugly blocky terrain and massive unrealistically steep cliffs. Distant Terrain is also extremely unoptimised/laggy/outdated.
I'm pretty sure eroded terrain is super old, so I'd drop that one.
Super old meaning "the latest update released a couple weeks before the latest update for this mod"
I get the people who have been around for years like myself but never moved on past these mods because this is what they're used to, but I'm fascinated by the fact that there still is many new players using these mods in current year.
I highly recommend World of Daggerfall to anyone who isn't running with garbage hardware (and I truly mean garbage, even my 2011 rig can run it okay, just with longer initial load times)
Ok i have a problem i cant find anywhere else, when i load distant terrian as i load in immediately i see the distance then i see the texture bleed through the ground all around me, then the texture of the distance disappears and turns to grey but i still see the terrain through the real ground im standing on Edit: my bad not realizing i installed Tail of Argonia, of course that mod would conflict in such an odd way
I hate to write that but I had to disable this mod as it causes massive frame drops when loading new chunks of terrain, even in real time travel (x1). I've found that DFU Render Distance Extender with a distance of 5 and fog not disabled works nicely and is actually faster.
I use it with another terrain renderer (World of Daggerfall Project). In order to use it, you have to disable terrain renderer option in Distant Terrain.
Transparent Windows mod unfortunately incompatible indeed it reverts distance changes to default without even reverting the performance from Render Distance Extender mod. Might try to tinker with Transparent windows mod code to see how I can make it compatible.
Hey Nystul-the-Magician, I've tested and when using Distant Terrain with Darker Dungeons Mod the ability to interact with torches from Darker Dungeons stops working.
My Current DFU is v1.1.1, DREAM v1.0, Darker Dungeons v1.1.10 and Distant Terrain v2.9.1
Does this mod still work with current DFU (v1.1.1 in my case)?
Some people on the internet write that they can't get the mod to work. And then again others write (RTFM) that certain settings have to be made. I have tried various things, but have not been able to achieve my goal.
Is there a step-by-step guide that is bulletproof? Could someone write me how exactly I have to install this mod AND which versions of the respective mods and which version of DFU has to be used for this, please?
I find 3D worlds without distant lands (wide view) not so nice. I hate the fact that others have gotten it to work and I've been trying for days.
I have the latest hardware (from the future) and could run anything on it: AMD Ryzen (32 CPUs) RAM 96 GB RTX4090 (3440 x 1440p)
System: GNU/Linux x86_64 (POP OS)
And I don't understand why the render distance in DFU (v1.1.1 in my case) is limited to a maximum of 4!!!! Why? But that's another topic...
Is there anyone here who can write me a step-by-step guide on how to change the render distance to “eagle eye”? (with version details and exact mod settings)
Many thanks for any help!
EDIT: I should mention, that everything (Distant Terrain, ..) works fine in my v1.0.0-Installation of DFU. I also reinstalled v1.0.0, so I can see, that everything is fine.
For me it works on latest DFU version with DREAM and recommended mods. Theres one relevant settings.ini tweak which makes distant terrain work better (aka flawless to me) and that is
TerrainHeightmapPixelError = 1
And u need to set Distant Terrain mod properly in its settings, thats included in DREAM presets.. But its like this: In the Distant terrain mod settings, leave ALL options disabled. If u want more info, take a look at DREAM description page, and bellow there are Recommended INI settings etc... DREAM MOD LINK
You need to set TERM to point to an old-format terminfo entry, like "xterm" TERM=xterm ./Daggerfall\ Unity.x86_64Newer ones can make the version of Mono used by Unity3D 2019.4 crash System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'System.Console' threw an exceptionIt impacts Distant Terrain, maybe others (not sure what tries to use System.Console, maybe the Roslyn runtime compiler?) source: https://github.com/mono/mono/issues/8454
Hey so, if you are like me and STILL can't get Distant terrain to work even with the above help- try this: https://github.com/chappjo/DFURenderDistanceExtender/releases/tag/release
It works for me- just be aware it's heavier on the graphics card and will lag more in loading zones. But in my experience it is not bad at 8 "chunks" to use a MC term. I have a fairly aging GPU at this point so you should be fine!

I use it since it was created, with the modlist of roughly 70 other mods, and it always worked flawlessly for me.
- Disable EVERY setting in its mod settings
- In the Settings.Ini set TerrainHeightmapPixelError = 1
This will work with DREAM recommended mods and most of the other mods as well.
Ofcourse, its possible it does not work with some other mods etc, but that happens basically to every mod.
Load order can be a factor as well.
Pick one and you should be fine. I'm pretty sure eroded terrain is super old, so I'd drop that one.

This is where I am for context.

edit: i find the problem, nvm

EDIT: The issue was incompatibility with Transparent Windows
I even use it up on 8 and it's fine. :)

I could go digging for that ini anyway unless it's DREAM specific. I want this mod back.
Edit: CRUD even following King of Worm's suggestions it still won't work for me.

Goes up to 16.
