Portrait Edition is out now! Check the images tab for comparisons with vanilla and the initial version, now dubbed 'Flat Edition'.
Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in it and the rest of y'all that left a comment so far, they really make my day! If you haven't yet, feel free to do so, I love hearing what y'all have to say :) And don't forget to always stay never not nice <3
Finally! Was hoping someone would ask this question, I’m very proud of her look 🤭. I’ll edit this post with the detes when I open my laptop later today!
Here, just took some quick screenshots :) Made this one before I got into modding, so you shouldn't need anything else to copy my work :P Though it's worth mentioning that the screenshots were taken with Universal Skin Tone - Fair (it's skin tone option 2).
Apologies for the late reply, had a busy day yesterday. Dunno what went wrong there, sorry 'bout that! Here, I've combined the screenshots into one image; probably should've done that from the start, but oh well, better late than never, hm? Here you go!
Thanks for the kind words! Evo LUT isn’t totally my taste but I know LUT preference can be very subjective, so I’m glad you found the perfect combination for you! Enjoyyy <3
You're right, I thought the single example of using the mod without a custom LUT would be more than sufficient to convince everyone to just install a LUT mod :) I'll try to remember to make a few extra screenshots when I boot the game next time, though.
Honestly not a big fan of these various LUTs when it comes to reference points. They look good when cherry picked for sure but vanilla is a constant you can trust more, lol
But a bigger issue here is that I don't even know where to find the 1.5.0 version of the LUT you were using! The link leads to a 3.0 version which I assume is completely different, and version 1.5.0 isn't even anywhere in the old files section of that mod :P
Fair enough, I getcha! Will be adding some reference shots for vanilla lighting then <3
As for Preem LUT, it definitely is still listed there, though I totally understand why you missed it; you're looking for the actual version number on the far right, it's not mentioned in the file name itself. Here, it's the first one under the 'old files' section:
I'll update the description with clearer info, thanks for pointing it out!
Btw, if you find LUT mods too inconsistent when used out in the world, LUT Switcher has the option to select a LUT for use in menu screens only. You might find that useful!
An alternative method with the same result and the additional benefit of functioning in the main menu too (for creating a new V) is installing any base LUT and then selecting the vanilla LUT in LUT Switcher (it's included in the mod by default, no need to install an extra pack). Then if you tick the 'Disable LUT in menu' box, it'll revert to the modded base LUT you've installed in menu screens :)
I personally think theCyanideX's most popular and current LUT, Nova LUT 3.0, is basically perfect. Haven't found a spot it doesn't look good in, much moreso than Vanilla LUTs.
This is speaking as someone who didn't really like their previous LUTs, including Nova LUT 2 (all variants, Pure, Vibrant, Supernova), and Preem LUT. I used to use Vanilla Plus Visual Enhancement's LUT for the exact same reason, the others looked too inconsistent.
I use both personally, but the LUT on its own feels really well balanced - gets rid of the yellow-green vanilla tint, white balance feels perfect, saturation is just right, and slight increase in contrast (but not overly so like some of their previous LUTs - I had some crushed black issues with some of them).
Also for note, of dependencies for Nova City 2, only the "nulled" mods for CP2077 and Dog Town are actually required. The rest are just suggestions. Of those suggestions, I personally use Improved Distant Shadows and ReLUX (though most of the latter is broken on 2.3), but not the others.
Funny story: I have no clue, I haven’t made the jump to the new version yet. But it seems to work for everyone else and I’m sure a large portion of the nearly 1.5k people who downloaded the mod are already on 2.3, none of whom have reported any issues yet. So you should be good!
I think a version with slightly more contrast would be perfect. Currently, it appears a little too flat for my liking. Bring back some of the shadows on the left side and maybe a touch more highlights and... 👌
actually +1 to contrast. and if you can lower the brightness just slightly; white clothes oftentimes shine too brightly for the viewer to make out details
More contrast edition is planned! Thanks for the feedback!
As for your second point, could you share some screenshots of the issue with white clothing? I personally haven’t run into problems with them so far, but it might be a PT thing?
No worries, everyone has their own preference! It’s totally okay to have your opinion. Glad to hear I was able to deliver on your wishes with the new version though! Enjoy!
Love the idea behind this, but it is too flat now. You need to employ a Portrait Lighting system which is what the original tried to achieve. Although what they have done is indeed too bright.
look up Portrait Lighting for photography and tune it to that instead. It’s appealing to have a key light and shadow on part of the character to give it a more interesting contrast.
Thanks for checking out the mod and giving feedback! A version with higher contrast is already planned, several people have expressed interest in it :)
I will say that the ‘flat’ look is actually very much intentional; my focus when making this mod was all-round visibility and accurate colours above all else, with little regard for stylistic appeal. But I do see where you and the others with similar points of critique are coming from, so stay tuned for a more ‘cinematic’ edition coming soon!
FWIW, I'm with you on this. A character-creation feature should show you what the character looks like in the game, but I can think of only one game I personally play that does this. In every other case (including CP2077) the character creator screen is flooded with fancy lighting effects to the extent that the character you create is not what you see in the game.
IMO character-creation lighting should be as neutral as possible, without added color or edge effects. The brightness level (with a properly calibrated monitor) should mimic standard daylight in the game. Of course there should also be some texture/shadowing so we can see that too, but just enough to allow us to see what we need to see.
Save the fancy lighting for photo mode, where the player can go wild. How many times have you created a character multiple times because what you got in the game is not what you made in the creator?
Well put! My reasoning exactly. Despite that, portrait edition is still releasing later today or tomorrow. Even though I won’t use it, there’s plenty of people who will and admittedly, I’m enjoying the opportunity to tinker with the numbers a little longer :P it’s much more fun when you get the hang of it!
Thanks so much for this one, I never understood why CDPR left those horrible lights in, when the rest of the game is generally pretty neat lighting wise
Wait a second, I only just noticed your username, haha! Thank you as well for all your fabulous skin and cyberware mods! Making characters is genuinely 10x as fun with all the incredible options you’ve provided us with, especially the face cyberware ones are just so good. Makes my day to know you’re getting use out of my work as well :)
I’ll definitely use it! :D If I weren’t so bad at scripting and stuff, I’d probably try making this mod myself someday :p And you did it ! Glad you like my work, thanks ! ^^
Well, to each their own! I wouldn’t dare step foot into the realm of modelling myself so I’m glad others do :D I’ll be releasing an alternate version with slightly more photogenic lighting soon, you might like that too ;)

Paired with evoLUT3, it's perfect for me.
thx Samuel 💖
It'd be nice to have it next to the "Flat Edition - Vanilla Lut" example

Cheers@Velgath
Are you talking about 'just' Nova LUT 3.0 (AgX - HDR Support)?
Just the main file, yeah? Or are you also using the recommended Nova City 2 mod and its dependencies?

This was really needed <3
Glad you like my work, thanks ! ^^
It is drastically better than what we are given in game. Fantastic job!
