I FEEL LIKE A MADMAN FOR EVERYTHING THAT WENT INTO MAKING THIS (AND HAVE BEEN (AFFECTIONATELY) DESCRIBED AS SUCH), BUT IT'S FINALLY DONE!

I will be uploading a tutorial on how to work with cinematics and add new options to dialogue files sometime in the near future, but in the meantime, I give you this—epilogue kisses for Wyll!!

This mod adds all of Wyll's kiss cinematics to the epilogue, and made the unfinished kiss interaction he was meant to have available again, which will pull one of the cinematics at random. Because yes, he was supposed to have a kiss interaction in the epilogue, which was never actually finished. Like uh. It was...actually really unfinished. And now it's not! Because I finished it! Oh my g-d! Now you can finally give your favorite folk hero all the kisses he deserves 🎶💕💋

I also added lipsyncing and animation to the voice line he was meant to have as a reaction, which will play after the kiss!

The original audio for the line was present in the game, but had no accompanying lipsyncing or animation, so I yoinked both from another one of Wyll's lines and made them available for this. Because of that, the lipsyncing is a little funky and doesn't line up perfectly, but I got it as close as I could!

Also, fun fact—they're actually from a line of his that's exclusive to Durge and Astarion! His "I know you can find the light if you know where to look. And this I promise—you can always look to me" line! (Specifically, I took the lipsyncing and animation from that second sentence.) It's one of my favorite lines in the game, both, just because of the line itself, and because Theo's performance is just phenomenal for it. I also found out through making this mod that he puts his hand over his heart for the line, which you can't see in the original scene because the camera's too zoomed in 😭 So unfair......but you can see the animation with this mod at least!! I also have a video of the original line here if you haven't already seen it (or if you have and just want to see it again!) This is unrelated to the mod, I just really like the line ahsdfjkdsk

The mod also fixes a couple issues with his kiss cinematics, which were cloned from the original vanilla ones and put directly into his epilogue dialogue files. This means that his cinematics in the epilogue are almost completely independent from the ones from the vanilla game, and these fixes actually aren't present in his regular kiss cinematics yet—I'm going to have to edit his kiss dialogue files directly to incorporate them! Will probably do that at some point in the future.

But, specifically, this mod fixes some issues with him not having expression data for a couple seconds at the start of two of his kiss animations for short races, making him frown, which, seems to be the default expression for most characters? But um. It bothered me that he only frowned for shorter characters, and only those two animations, and it does seem to be caused by him just not having expression data at the start of those animations. I'm pretty confident it's a bug, and now he won't do that 😭


This mod also fixes your own character frowning at Wyll inappropriately when it branches off into the different dialogue options for the conversation you have with him in the epilogue. He just asked what's on your mind... why are you frowning at him... This mod also fixes that.

It'll conflict with any other mod editing these files, but it doesn't affect his original kisses, so you shouldn't run into any conflicts there—definitely let me know if you do have any issues, though!

Install via BG3 Mod Manager, and give Wyll some kisses for me, ok? He deserves it!!!


Future plans:


Hugs, both if you romanced him and if you didn't, a mindflayer kiss I'm trying to clone from Gale, and the ability to kiss him more than once. I tried getting that last one working for the initial release, but it unfortunately wouldn't randomize the kiss animations properly, and it ended up looking real weird and repetitive. Will add that in a future update once I get it working! This definitely isn't the end of this mod, or the end of what I want to add for Wyll in general. I am gay, insane, and dedicated to this man and you will see more for him from me—that is a promise!

I will also need to update this more for origin Lae'zel and Karlach if you romanced him as them, fix up some vanilla bugs, and I may make some tweaks here and there to fix up the camera angles in the cinematics I added. I did my best, but editing the camera angles at the XML level is NOT easy, and some of the cinematics have funky camera movement going into his voice line afterwards I haven't been able to fix yet. I'm trying very hard not to be a perfectionist about it, but I still would like to try and fix that up a little in the future.


Known Issues:


Aforementioned funky camera angles after some cinematics 😭 I tried my best, but, again, editing them at the XML level is NOT easy. Please pray the official modding tools Larian is making include dialogue/cinematic tools. Please. You can also take a peek at the dialogue timeline files if you would like to know my pain. It was totally worth it, but, oh my word,

(If you take a peek at my files specifically please know I was too tired to remove the notes I made to myself while working on this . And also please don't judge how I live . I'm sure none of those notes are too weird but I did not intend for people to actually read them, I just, again, was too tired to actually remove them asjudfkslk)

You might see some lighting issues depending on where your characters are standing during the kiss; this might be an issue with the epilogue camp specifically, and I'm not entirely certain how to fix it at the moment, or if I'll be able to. There are a couple things I might try for a future update, but until then, if you run into lighting issues, try reloading the scene and doing the kiss again with the characters in a different spot in camp!


You might also run into some brief positioning errors (like, split-second brief) with his kisses for bodytypes 1 and 2 for tall races. These errors seem to be present in his kisses from the vanilla game, and I've been trying to fix them, but have not been successful yet. Important to note: as mentioned above, the cinematics for his epilogue kisses were cloned from his kiss cinematics from the vanilla game, but they're actually independent and incorporated directly into his epilogue dialogue files. My dad and I actually made a Python script together to update the start and endtimes for the cinematics automatically, which I'll be talking about in the tutorial on dialogue files I'm making! But I also had to edit some parts of the XML for them manually. Because of this, there's always room for error with the cinematics on my end, but this does seem to be an existing bug with the vanilla cinematics I cloned.


Also, like I said before, the lipsyncing for his reaction line isn't perfect, because it was actually meant for a different line entirely. Unfortunately, lipsyncing is handled via .ffxanim files for the game, which, I believe come from the program FaceFX. That is a $900 program and literally more money than I have, so uh ., I will need to look for alternatives. Probably not for this, though, I think it's close enough that I may just leave it 😭 I have plans for other dialogue/scene mods that will require me to either make my own lipsync animations or get REALLY creative with the game camera (I actually had to manually edit the timing of the camera switches to hide some of the more obviously out-of-sync dialogue for this 😅) So, hopefully I can figure out other options.,


I'll probably try tweaking the mod to fix these issues in the future, but I may not be able to fix all of them unfortunately. I'm not actually able to see the changes I'm making in real time, and I kinda have to look at the literal numbers in front of me to try and figure out what's wrong. And Wyll is 100% worth it!!!!!!! But uh. Larian if you see this, um......again. a dialogue tool. a dialogue tool. I would like one. Please.
