Mori's Astral Elves

This is my own person take on the Astral Elf subrace from Spelljammer!  Astral Elves are a type of elf that separated from the others long ago, leaving the Feywild to travel to the Astral Plane to be closer to their gods. This has given them a piece of the light of the Astral Plane inside them, which manifests as a starry gleam in their eyes.  They can be found in various planes where elf deities reside, as well as Spelljammer ports all over the Astral Sea.

There are several other mods out there that add Astral Elves, but I made this not only to ease myself into how modding works for BG3, but also because none of the existing Astral Elf mods matched my personal tastes.  Feel free to give the others a try if you don't prefer this one!  Compatibility and immersion are two big priorities for me, so I'm hoping the end product feels like it was it was part of your game all along!

This mod was designed to be simple and close to vanilla, mostly as a way of getting my feet wet with BG3 modding. As such it uses vanilla assets and colors. They're not featureless though, because of the fact they're a subrace of the vanilla Elf race, which means they can use any Elf CC you might have installed.  I also added overrides to the vanilla heads (for the Astral Elf race only) that lets their eyes glow to really complete the Astral Elf look.  As of 1.2, I've included material overrides for a lot of popular head mods from all over the nexus (with permission).  There is also a patch for Eyes of the Beholder in the optional files.


This version of the Astral Elves is designed to be quite close to RAW (rules as written).  The biggest difference is that their Astral Trance ability was replaced by the vanilla Astral Knowledge action (from the Githyanki) for simplicity's sake.  I may revisit this ability later, but I feel it fulfills the intended function for now.  Their racial features (in addition to the main elf features) are:


  • Abilities: +2 Charisma, +1 Dexterity (RAW)   Removed in v1.1 for balance. Larian switched ASI gain to Class instead of Race, which I wasn't aware of when making this.
  • Keen Senses: You gain proficiency in the Perception skill. (RAW)
  • Starlight Step: As a bonus action, you can magically teleport up to 9m (30ft) to an unoccupied space you can see. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.  In game, these uses are tracked by a new resource called Starlight Step Charges, which increase on levels 5, 9, 13, and 17 (the latter two only if you have a mod that lets you level above 12, which is not required). (RAW)
  • Astral Trance: As stated above, this is the only feature not implemented as RAW, and currently uses the vanilla Astral Knowledge action.  I may come back to this to make it function more like RAW.

Also included is a Tag Framework (not required) config that adds the Planar, Really Planar and Rare tags to your Astral Elf, and removes the Baldurian tag.The mod now also includes automatic support for adding the Divine Lance cantrip from PF2E Spells and Starry Wisp from OneDnD UA8 Cantrip Starry Wisp to the Astral Fire spell list. These replace the previous Compatibility Framework patches, please remove these if you used them before. The spells will only show up in the list if you have those mods, which are not required. The list will function just fine without them.

I built this whole thing on top of my own personal mod list (800+ mods active), and didn't run into any issues. That said, if you do, let me know and I'll try to help/fix stuff.

Requirements/Recommended Mods
Currently only requires the Mod Fixer and Improved UI.  Make sure you update to the latest release of IUI Assets to see the icons!  If you use Unique Tav, check out KittHaven's patch for this mod!

In addition to the eye mods mentioned above, I'd also recommend Astralities' Demon Eyes - Eye Color Collection and Astralities' Fantasy Skintone Expansion to give more vibrant colors to your Astral Elves.  She made the race icon for this mod, so give her some love! 

Known Issues
  • The passive that adds new Starlight Step Charges on level-up doesn't show up while leveling, leaving only a blank 'race' tab on the side.

Future Plans
  • Rework Astral Knowledge into a full Astral Trance skill.
  • More head eye glow compatbility
