Summary

Ephemeral Chest
Depending which version you download you learn a new spell to summon the ephemeral chest, either into your inventory or on the ground.

It contains the same exact contents as the tutorial chest. This is very useful to obtain modded items, as it has become the default choice to add modded items to the tutorial chests loot table (treasure table). It'll also contain 10.000 gold.

The chest has a duration of 10 turns, after which it will disappear. If you need time you can use turn-based mode or move the contents out. Alternatively you can use the chest as trash can and throw any unwanted items in it and they will disappear with it.

The spell is learned from any underwear item by simply wearing it. If you don't want the spell to show up, unequip your underwear or alternatively, hide the icon under a hotbar slider.

The ephemeral chest will also contain several other containers that filter for specific items and pick them up automatically, like the Alchemy Pouch. Read about them below.

Installation
This is a .pak mod - simply put it into
C:\Users\<YourUserName>\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\Mods
Then enable the mod in BG3 Mod Manager (BG3MM) by drag and dropping the mod from the right side (disabled mods) to the left (enabled mods). Hit "Export Order to Game" in the top bar and thats it.

Uninstall
Simply disable the mod in BG3MM or delete it from your mods folder.

Since Patch 3 a lot of mod remnants do not crash the game any more if the game is loaded without the mod. Items from the mod will simply be deleted and spells disappear. This mod aims to not use any statuses or passives that would cause a crash if the mod is removed.

Script Extender
Norbyte's Script Extender (SE) is not required for the basic features of this mod to work. It is however needed for many of the advanced features. I specifically designed the mod this way so that it continues being relatively functional on patch releases when Script Extender needs an update.

Without SE:
  • Chests will only contain 1 of each item instead of 20 (read below why*)
  • The duplication chest will not work
  • Items in the ephemeral chest will not be weightless
  • The ephemeral chest will not contain any gold
  • The scrolls book will not contain any scrolls and the quiver no arrows*
  • You can still use them to sort your inventory though

Script Extender can easily be installed by going into BG3MM, selecting "Tools" in the top bar and then selecting "Download and Extract the Script Extender"

Additional Chests
Please note that the primary purpose of the following chests is to keep the ephemeral chest sorted and potentially soak up loose items added by other mods. Their secondary use is that you can pick them up (they don't expire after 10 turns) and use them to sort your inventory. There is however other mods that might do that better.

Weapon and Armour Chest
The Weapon and Armour Chest are empty by default. When they spawn in the tutorial chest they will collect any loose weapon and armor items added by other mods. They also act as filtered chests with auto-pickup when you pick them up. Despite their appearance their weight is only 1 and you can use them to sort your inventory by taking them out of the Ephemeral Chest.

Dye Chest
The Dye Chest contains 20 of every vanilla dye in the game, pre-sorted by rarity and color. Like the weapon and armour chest it filters for dyes and auto-collects them.

Take out the dyes you want or take the chest to help sort your inventory. If you don't want the dyes, just leave them in the ephemeral chest - they will disappear with it.

If modded dyes use the same base as vanilla, they will also be able to be put into this chest.

Alchemy Chest
The Alchemy Chest contains 20 of every potion, elixir, coating and grenade in the game. It works similarly to the Dye Chest and filters for most consumables.

Scrolls Book
The Scrolls Book contains 20 of every scroll in the game, even unused ones. It works similarly to the Dye/Alchemy Chest and filters for scrolls.

Quiver
The Quiver contains 20 of every arrow in the game, even unused ones. It works similarly to the Dye/Alchemy Chest/Scroll Book and filters for arrows.

Duplication Chest
The Duplication Chest is empty and does what the name implies. Everything you put into it will be duplicated. There is some simple rules to it:

  • Any non-stackable item will create a copy of itself (e.g. Armor, Weapons, Chests)
  • Any stackable item will be set to a stack size of 20 if it is below that
  • If the item can be stacked higher than 20 and you put 20 or more in it, its number will be doubled
  • Containers will only be duplicated if they are empty
  • If they are not empty, their contents will be duplicated
  • To duplicate the same item again, the item has to be first removed from the chest or the chest closed - this is to prevent items from infinitely duplicating themselves and causing lag or a crash

There is a very small amount of items that cannot be duplicated because they are created via local template. For example Firzu's Ring of Trading. This affects only 3-4 items. The mod overwrites some templates to make roughly half of these items able to be duplicated. Some legendaries will have a different name when duplicated, e.g. The Blood Of Lathander and Bloodthirst - while this is fixable I left it in as an easter egg.

Weightless Effect
Every item created in the ephemeral chest has a condition named "Weightless" which does exactly what you think. When you move an item out of the ephemeral chest the effect is lost. Adding items to the chest will NOT give them the weightless effect.

The purpose of this effect is so you don't become heavily encumbered when you summon the ephemeral chest into your inventory. It's a small QoL feature. If you want a more permanent weightless effect there is a bag of holding mod out there.

The chest itself and all other containers from this mod have a weight of only 1.

Weight Adjustment
This mod also adjusts the weight of dyes and consumables.

  • Dyes: 0.1 → 0.01
  • Potions, Coatings and Elixirs: 0.1 → 0.02
  • Poisons: 0.2 → 0.02
  • Grenades: 0.3 → 0.05
  • Scrolls: 0.02 → 0.005
  • Arrows: 0.1 → 0.01
  • Kits: 0.2 → 0.05

Misc Changes

  • The four black dyes (Black + Furnace Red/Summer Green/Jade Green/Azure Blue) have new icons
  • The unused Aid scroll now casts the highest level Aid you would have at the level
  • The unused Flameblade scroll now summons a level-appropiate version of the Flameblade which is permanent
  • Flameblade and Expeditious Retreat scrolls now use a bonus action instead of an action
  • The Idol of Sylvanus will no longer spam the combat log
  • Acid Spore grenades no longer use the same texture as the Fungal Bamboozler, instead they use an used grenade texture fitting for it

Reduced Lag/Freeze/Delay
*With 42 dyes and 73 consumables in stacks of 20 the chest contains 2300 items plus anything you added via other mods. To massively reduce the delay this causes only 1 of each item is spawned and Script Extender then sets the stacksize to 20. This has reduced the delay from spawning the chest to being able to move/interact again from 3-4 seconds to <1 second (there is some delay from casting a spell thats always present). The scrolls are entirely added by SE, this way I can grab every scroll, even from other mods.

Note that if you have added a lot of single items (like Basket of Equipment) there will still be delay.

Temptation
"Dear esteemed mod author, I cannot help myself but grab all the cool stuff that spawns in the Cartilaginous Chest in the Nautiloid (or my co-players can't)":

Compatibility
This mod is not compatible with Pouch of Wonders, since both use underwear to grant the spell. It technically should be compatible with Tutorial Chest Summoning, but there is absolutely no need to use both mods.

Probably incompatible with "Bags of Sorting" due to me having to add Tags to certain base items to make them be able to be filtered for the weapon and armor chest.

Load Order
It does not really matter where you put this mod. The only important thing is that you put mods that destructively overwrite the tutorial chest before it. Notable mod that does this is: Better Loot <- it should always be loaded first

If you have mods that overwrite the weight of items you may want to put them above my mod (if you prefer my changes) or below my mod (if you prefer their changes).

If you have issues with my mod, try putting it at the bottom of the list.

Plans
None at the moment
