About this mod

Face textures for Gale that clean up his blemishes and smoothen some of the roughness while maintaining a natural look.

softer gale

While learning how textures work for Baldur's Gate, I decided to experiment on our favorite (maybe) wizard Gale since I saw there weren't many mods on here that made edits to his appearance. I wasn't sure whether it would be worth sharing since the introduction of the Magic Mirror and Appearance Edit mods which have been a godsend for people who enjoy customizing, but thought what the hell, I'll share anyway since maybe someone will make use of this.

I tried to paint adjustments that wouldn't make him completely unrecognizable, but rather just smoothen out some of the wrinkles, lighten the eyebags and make him look a bit more fresh-faced. Also tried to ease up on the redness since in certain lighting his skintone would skew pretty red.

I actually enjoyed working on this and will possibly continue messing around with face/body textures for the other companions/races when I have some time, so maybe you'll see this mod page expand with other stuff, maybe I'll start a new one, or maybe I'll be lazy and do nothing. We shall see :)

installing

There are two options:
  • Main file which will just have the new face textures. Compatible with other mods that may make non-face related changes to Gale.
  • Alternate file which has the new face textures and changes his hair to Eyrie Peak model if you'd like him to match the screenshots.

To install, you can:
  • Drop the downloaded Generated folder in your Baldurs Gate 3\Data\ folder
    OR
  • Download with Vortex and choose Install as a replacer when prompted. Note that if you install it this way, you can always delete the mod from your list if you ever need to and it should go back to normal.

I've had a few comments asking about his hair color. I actually didn't make any changes to his hair color, however the images were taken using my Willow ReShade preset here which changes the lighting/color scheme. If you want to make other changes to hair/eye color, etc. I recommend looking at Appearance Edit Origins that you can use with this mod.
