Description:

This mod attempts to buff and balance Dual Wielding for martial classes to bring it closer to Two Handed with Great Weapon Master while capturing its risk/reward playstyle.

I figured that simply removing action point cost from DW attack would make it too strong, so now Dual Wielder Feat adds (in addition to all its base features) a toggleable passive skill that removes Bonus Action Point cost from DW attacks if toggled.
In exchange Attack Rolls have -3/-4/-5 Penalty or -5 Penalty to offhand attacks (depending on the version) just like with GWM. There's also an optional file that does not apply any penalties at all but leaves the toggle if you want.

Optimal version:

I'm still actively looking for feedback to figure out which attack roll penalty is the most balanced, so use your own judgement on this matter and choose one of multiple versions. Also be sure to share your opinion in the comment section if you wish to do so. You can refer to the sticky posts for some calculations. Spoiler: there's a lot of text and no simple answer as of yet.
If you want some casual "download and forget" experience go for -3 or -5 offhand only version.

Note on Bonus Actions, DW and Engine:
The game's default behaviour is to toggle off the ability to perform DW attacks if there aren't any Bonus Action points left to do so, even if the atack does not require any Bonus Actions. There's no known way to change this behaviour as of yet but there are workarounds.
This issue has been solved in the following way (Visual Demonstration):
If you spend a bonus action before making an attack a new free offhand attack will be added so that you do not lose any actions (see images). This attack's is only free if DWM passive is toggled, otherwise it's 1 BA as usual. This is done to make it impossible to remove accuracy penalty to this offhand attack by toggling off DWM passive.

On Rework: For those who used the old version: Rework removes "Swift Attacks" spell since I've found a way to overwrite cost of the default attack. In addition, this update fixes a bug that locked offhand attack option if Bonus Action Points had been already spent.
This new design decision allowed me to get rid of many other issues. Now the mod also works with stuff like Battle Maneuvers, War Magic etc. And be sure to read the instructions on updating.

Notes:

  • This mod only affects melee combat. Ranged combat works just like in vanilla.
  • If you install this mod and load a save file where the character already has Dual Wielder feat I recommend you to respec. The new passive won't show up in the hotbar but will be toggled on by default. You can find it in the spell menu by pressing "K" on keyboard (see images). Respecing and grabbing Dual Wielder feat fixes this issue.

Installation:

  • Donwload the mod and unpack "DualWieldingTweaks.pak" file from the archive
  • Open BG3 Mod Manager
  • File -> Import Mod -> Choose "DualWieldingTweaks.pak" file
  • If everything went fine a new mod should appear in Inactive mods list to the right
  • Drag and drop the mod to Active Mods list to the left
  • File -> Export Order To Game

On Balance:

If you have an idea that could improve the mod please share it in the Posts section.

Updates Roadmap
:

  • Optional file that adds a bonus attack after crit or kill like in the case with GWM. Need advice on this matter since two attacks provide twice as many chances to crit.
  • Optional nerf to an offhand attack. Currently you can still spend your bonus action on additional (third) one handed attack after performing full DW attack with "Dual Wielding Master" toggled on. This file should change Bonus Action cost of the offhand attack from 1 to 2 after performing an attack with Dual Wielding Master on, so only specific classed with more than 1 Bonus Actions can utilize it.

Update and Uninstallation:

This mod affects current save file. To avoid issues after update or deinstallation one needs to do the following:

  • Before deleting the mod respec all characters who have Dual Wielder feat to level 1 to get rid of all perks affected by this mod.
  • Fast travel to another location and unequip weapons
  • Save the game. Make both a full save and a quicksave just in case
  • Quit the game and delete the mod
  • Launch the game without the mod and create a new clean save file
  • Install updated version

Big thanks to TumblingLemmings for Better Dual Wielding mod which I've used during the creation of this mod! Please take a look at thier mod, you may find it more suitable for you.
