About this mod

Add a touch of the divine to your music performances (divine-themed music VFX, wings, instruments and spells). Or corrupt them, if that's more your style.

Lyre of the Divine, performing Sing for Me

What is the Celestial Instruments Mod?
Divine and celestial themed VFX for music performances, instrument textures and visuals, including wings and halos.

~~ BG3 PATCH 7 or 8 Minimum Required ~~

"Corrupted" Lyre, performing Old Time Battles

THIS IS A VERY VFX HEAVY MOD
I had much (probably too much) fun creating the visuals, and I'll admit some of them were me taking the AllSparks editor for a spin rather than going for, uh, understated or other synonyms now gone from my vocabulary. Not that any of my mods would suit a "subtle" label, but this one is a bit OTT even for me.

If you play on a SteamDeck or on minimum hardware requirements, the VFX in this mod might not be suitable. I don't know, tbh. I don't exactly have a top of the range PC, but some of the music performance VFX make the fans on my graphics card go BRRRRR.

You have been warned! I take no responsibility for any melted GPUs :)

Acquisition
Instruments and items in this mod can be retrieved through the summonable mod container - the re-usable scroll that is placed in the inventory.
If you have lost or destroyed this scroll, then you can also find the mod container at the following locations:

  • Tutorial potions chest
  • Act 1, Arron the vendor in the Druid Grove
  • Act 2, Harper quartermaster at Last Light Inn
  • Act 3, The Chromatic Scale store

No immersive acquisition options, sorry. I may look at creating add-on mods in future to place the instruments around the world if there is interest in this.

Dependencies and Requirements
This mod is PATCH 7 or PATCH 8 only and requires Ember's Lute, minimum version 2.
Do not try to run this mod with version 1 of Ember's Lute, or on patch 6. At best, weird things will happen and at worst, it will just crash your game.

Ember's Lute is a music performance enhancement mod, and is a required dependency as it contains the music performance enhancements used by Celestial Instruments. This mod inherits:

  • Auto-join music performances with either instrument sprites, summoned musical ensembles, or with party members
  • Play complete songs solo (can be toggled on/off with Passive)
  • "Conduct" instruments mid-performance by silencing with Passive toggles
  • Use Concentration to perform music in combat

Combat Performance Auras
There are two in-combat music performance auras, unlocked by equipping either a Divine or Corrupted instrument, and entering battle. The spell container Combat Performance will become available.

I have two articles in progress to outline what each aura does (not visible yet), so check back later if you wish to know specifics of bonuses for each round of performing music in combat. If you are familiar with the Haunted Instruments mod, then these auras work in a similar way. They become slightly stronger with each round music is sustained in combat, up to three rounds where an additional spell is unlocked. Both auras have full tooltips on statuses and spells, so read these in-game for more information (and watch out for the Corrupted Instrument third round...).

Wings and Race Mods
If you play a modded race with wings, then note that the music performance VFX will give you an additional pair by default!
There is a passive toggle to suppress the wings in music performance visuals if you would like it to not do this. You can also toggle off the halos in music VFX too.

As an aside, if the wings are from the equippable wings included in this mod, then these should not result in doubling up on wings. Instead, the equipped wings will override the default wings in the VFX. This won't work for any equippable wings, only those included in this mod.

Compatibility
This mod does not change the vanilla music performances or vanilla instruments.

Its custom music performances, instrument toggles and spell effects are only triggered when you either equip one of its instruments, or use the instrument varnishes. It's just a design approach and there are pros and cons. Pro is it should be compatible with most other mods, and happily co-exist alongside most other music mods. Con, music performance functionality added by another music mod will probably not work on the custom instruments in this mod (but should be fine with vanilla instruments).

Installing and Uninstalling
I will be updating with an article for more details, but as a quick summary:

  • This mod can be added safely at any point in a campaign
  • If you run third party mods and need to preserve a Load Order, then you may find it easiest to install this with Laughing Leader's BG3MM
  • If you only run "official" toolkit mods, then use the in-game mod manager to install

Uninstalling
This mod adds custom items and things. It is possible to uninstall mid-campaign, but not straight-forward and requires steps in-game to erase items, or the use of a mod like Volitio's Uninstaller. I recommend to make a Save point and test out this mod to decide whether to keep it, before investing significant hours into campaign progression.
