      The author lost files and interest. The author gave blanket permission in description page.

    I have been using this mod as one of my main installments that will go in real quick! Being from viking decent myself I love to see more of this, but I guess nothing really will appear any time soon :(

    Seriously... Just cuz your ancestors was Scandinavian DOES NOT MEAN THEY WERE VIKINGS.
    VIKINGS = RAIDERS/PIRATES
    Scandinavians was just NORTHMEN.
    VIKINGS = Northmen who raided and pirated.

      Actually, it is more "Vikings = Farmers going south west on their langskip to find richness"
      Raiding at first, ransoming villages then, to finally install themselves in these new lands (in my country, I was born in a land that was given to them called "Normandie"= Nord/North man land).
      They wanted to be rich but at the out-most, they wanted to have rich lands to farm.
      keep in mind they were great merchants too, occasionally seeing weakness in some villages they could raid.

      So claiming "as a Scandinavian my ancestors were vikings", they definitively share the same Viking blood.
      jeg heter Ragnae og din sjel er min!

      Actually the primary meaning of "going on a viking" would be "to travel with intent of aquiring profit" or "buisiness trip". Now, that just taking stuff with payment of axe or even better: taking the former owners along as slaves was the most profitable version of said trips was... unfortunate. But considering the attitude of oil and mineral-companies today, the trips haven't changed all that much. ^^

      Yes, the common depiction of vikings is plunderers, ransomers, slavers... but they were also a highly developed culture with a strong belief of "what you do in life counts for eternity". Thus they have created art, decorations and technological advances that were quite impressive. Their "Thing" meetings were basically a super-early form of repulic. Kindof/Sortof. They still had their rulers (mostly family elders), but during a Thing every free man was alowed to speak for or against laws. And - even if they lacked any form of political rights - the women had some serious protection, as not even playful violence was taken lightly. Ofcourse only applying to Viking women, not slave ones.

      Demoting them to being just raiders and plunderers is like saying "All christians are fanatics: see how many millions of people were slaughtered in the name of christ!" - Truth, yet simplyfied.

      *edit* Oh, damn, necroed that one.

      "Vikings" were indeed Germanic peoples who settled far north. Raiding was something they did in the winter time when the harvest was in and they were bored. The name does stem for their word for that type a raid "going a-Viking"

      I wouldn't say they were bored. That's an oversimplification as well as a non-answer. Back then, things were done for a reason and, in an environment like their's, the Norse cared about survival above all things. Most educated theories on the rise of viking raids was due to overpopulation, leading to them not being able to farm enough food to feed everyone. I'd say that's quite likely along with Scandinavia being under a warm period in the middle ages. Warm weather -> warmer land -> better farming -> population explosion -> food shortage/famine/population flatline.

      It depends on how you look at the game. Skyrim strikes you as kind of viking-ish, don't it?
      Lore friendly in a direct way, I don't know. But vikings certainly fits in if you ask me.
