Several potions and scrolls had too strong Secondary Effects compared to the Primary Effects. Scrolls and potions with the following effects were re-balanced: Resist Fire/Frost/Shock, Resist Magic, Reflect Spell, Spell Absorption, Burden, Damage Fatigue, Detect Life, Chameleon.
Thanks for the excellent work. I have been using this in the past but now I want to try Av Latta Magicka and I am thinking they may not go well together. Has anyone looked into this?
Hey, It's only the Av Latta Magicka - Rebalance Complete.esp which conflicts since the potion re-balance is separate. You can use both but only the one which loads last will have effect.
I put this mod after the main Latta esp, but above the rebalance esp. That way I get Latta's potion changes, but keep this mod's stave & scroll changes, as well as (theoretically) the bottle replacers.
I'm working on a small update for this mod. I was wondering if anyone has any input on the new reduced version of the mod? Is it okay, too reduced or not enough?
Glad you enjoy the mod. I'd recommend anyone to test both versions. Switching between versions is unproblematic and I even kept the name of the file since it's recognized by BOSS.
Since the first version of the this mod I have had comments saying the potions were too powerful. Whether or not they are depends on the mod setup we each use. My own modded game is pretty tough so I have always needed for instance very potent Restore Healing potion in order to survive. Recently though I've changed my mind on how strong the potions really need to be so I've made a new reduced version of the mod. I will keep updating both the old "strong" version and the new reduced version if changes are needed.
The main difference between versions is that the potions and poisons in this version are less potent and have lower cost as a result. The idea is that since the potions and poisons are more affordable you'll buy them more often when in town. This will make potions more part of the game rather than something you hardly care about. It will also make the player use them more often, which is a problem I've had for a while since I hold on to the powerful potions until just the right time to get maximum use out of them, but what happens is that then I just end up carrying around a huge amount of potions that most of the time just clutter up my inventory for far too long.
For scrolls I've reduced a few of them to be more in line with the potions and poisons but most I've kept as they were. The idea here is that I think scrolls are already pretty rare and I want to feel that I've found something worthwhile when I chance upon them.
All staff effect changes remain unchanged since they are balanced in my view.

Enjoy!
In case someone missed it here's some extra useful info from the comment section:
If you prefer a different look for the bottles you can do as Carlos4444 explained: (for Wrye Bash users)
For balanced prices of potions, poisons and staves I use the following settings in Enhanced Economy if anyone is interested:
; ================== Settings to control Auto Haggle: =====================
; Set minimum and maximum sell percentages set tnoEE.sellMin to 40 set tnoEE.sellMax to 90
; Set minimum and maximum buy percentages set tnoEE.buyMin to 110 set tnoEE.buyMax to 160
; ================== Settings to control value of enchanted items =====================
; Set exponent used to in a magicValue^exp calculation. 1 means no exponential change in value. set tnoEE.magicEffectPow to 0.92
A good attempt to make scrolls less useless, I've almost never used them. Unfortunately, I find potions way too overpowered. Especially compared to stuff you can brew yourself. Kinda makes alchemy pointless.
How does it make alchemy pointless? The potions you buy or find as loot are only acquired in very small quantities, so for the sake of balance they have to be stronger than home-brewed potions. They also cost more than the ingredients. If your own potions were stronger than purchased potions why would you ever buy potions in a shop (assuming you're using alchemy)? Also in case you missed it in the description:
With that said I'm actually thinking about making a reduced version of the mod since other people have mentioned that the potions are slightly too strong. Keep an eye out for it. It might suit you better.

I love this mod <3
Now I have to decide which version to use, oh no...I'd recommend anyone to test both versions. Switching between versions is unproblematic and I even kept the name of the file since it's recognized by BOSS.

Does this mod also touch the nirnroot potion?
Good to see nice changes!
