    addition to my note:
so i make it to shiloh, see finn, and am transported to the old mission in the swamp.  now what ?  no clue as to what to do next.  i fear something is still broken...damn, such a good mod so far, but i have to give up.

You should speak to the Quartermaster, Cpt. Butler to get your next quest, IIRC it's Settling Accounts. Talk to the other refugees as well. Some have dialog and one should give you a minor side quest.

    Tech note:
I ran into the Exodus quest bug, where I fall back with the quartermaster to the crossroads, but the next trigger to fall back to Shiloh never happens.  I loaded a save I had made after all militia were killed and then ran the console fix provided in these comments, and it fired the trigger to allow me to continue to Shiloh.  A HUGE thank you to all of you who take the time to provide help for fellow gamers !!!

Ok, so I ran into a problem fighting off the Empire, I am harrying them after losing the Fort, and I fall back from the Market. So far, nothing bad happens, but my journal never updates past that. I can basically kill Orcs as long as I have arrows in my quiver, and train, but nothing happens. I've tried reloading an older save, but same issue. Would the Console cheat listed on here work for my issue, since it's later in the battle, or...?

The bug is that sometimes the script that updates the journal won't fire when it is supposed to, a perennial NWN2 problem that even happens in the OC from time-to-time. The console cheat will work if we can figure out which quest needs to be bumped forward.

Just to be clear, you are currently fighting in New Market? IIRC that starts a new quest and journal entry after Ft. Akabah. Also going from memory, after you leave Akabah, you need to run into the tavern for a quick chat and resupply before the fight in New Market begins. Does that sound like what you did?

Once the Thulkins torch the town there should be a journal update telling you the militia has retreated and for you to go to the Crossroads. The battle will continue there. You can try going to the Crossroads first to see if the battle simply picks up as it should. From there you fall back to Shiloh Creek and everything else proceeds normally. If not, and we don't hear from the author, I'll install LotD on my other computer and look up the journal state for you.

    Let me know what happens.

      OK, so... Here's what happene:
      the Orcs attack the Fort,
I harass them until the call to retreat.
Now we're in New Market, again, harassing Orcs and Grenadiers.
      Fall back again.
      Everything is fine.
Now, we've fallen back to the graveyard on the other side of town.
~With the collapsed wall that offers +40% Concealment.
~~I use these walls to rain death on my enemies.
**Have not gotten to Shiloh yet.**

Now, the Orcs attack again, and I am supposed to cover the retreat.

From here it does not matter how long I kill Orcs, nothing happens. All of the Dana'an Rangers flee or die except for two who remain "Near Death". It got to the point that I made a bow that fires unlimited basic ammo, and left my computer alone and took a nap (While still sniping Orcs), came back like 6 hours later and was /still/ killing Orcs. Had hit Level 20. No Journal updates, no extra dialog, nothing happened except 7.5 uninterrupted hours of Orc killing.

For reference, I am an Elf, a Ranger, and I have the Elemental Archer Prestige Class. If I can get this issue taken care of, I may switch to a Gensai for the extra damage.

One of the more creative solutions I've seen.

Okay so the issue is those two rangers should be either dead or fled.
This will frequently fix itself if you save, exit the game, restart, and reload. The game finally sees that the conditions for the next script have already been met and go to the next step.

My regular game computer died last week so I don't have all my notes and files. It's after midnight here but I'll see about downloading LotD tomorrow and putting it on my new PC. From there I should be able to find the correct script to update the journal and get you moving again.

This seems to be the script that failed: plot_exodus_cr_mildeath

One part of it checks to see if the rest of militia has fled or been killed before updating your journal and telling you to retreat to Shiloh. So those two 'near death' militia are the problem.

Try running this from the console:

      rs ga_journal("quest_exodus",29,0,0,0)

Not 100% I have the quotes in the right spot. We'll see.

I'll try to console command. Saving an reloading didn't work. I tried that. Even started a new game fresh. Did the basic troubleshooting on my own lol. Hopefully the console command will work.

Good luck. Out for the rest of the week but will check back next Sunday. I'm also restoring all my old files to a new PC so I'll have access to my notes once again.

Just noticed you said starting a new game didn't solve the problem. Worried that might mean this mod isn't compatible with Kaedrins's. Let us know.

Once you finish the Tunnel Rat Quest, the going assumption is that you will be smuggling for fun and profit. That means cutting across the corners of The Crossroads to get to New Market, then straight to Bregen's Mission, then visit the cows in the Wadi, then cut through the East Slope to get to Musgrove's.

Once the war begins, use the smuggling tunnel. Saves time and the loot is good.

    Hope that helps.

I'm only part way through this module but I feel the need to comment on one "feature" that is likely to prevent me progressing any further with it.

The Mod author has removed fast travel from this module aside from scripted events, which means you run through encounter empty map areas time and again to fulfill simple fetch quests. It's realistic I suppose but very boring, If I have to go through crossroads map again in order to get from where I am to where the quest is I shall throw something.

For me this ruins an otherwise extremely well done module with innovative ideas and a pseudo historical story line

Much of the speech in the game feels as if the characters have known each other their entire lives, and the reader is supposed to “read between the lines” and use that information to make sense of the speech and characters’ actions. It’s as if it was written with the expectation that everyone has read some kind of source material and already knows plenty about all the characters, but you’re never given the personalities and history and information that “turns the text into people” (making it awkward). At the end, I didn’t even care… it was just a pile of names in a quest log after running around a lot and being forced into failure by the plot.

That said, the story itself isn’t so bad if you’re willing to look past the exact wording and take it for what it is. There are plenty of 50-line conversations with enough of a natural flow that any errors are worth overlooking. There are plenty of bits of humor and self-aware jokes that will be well-received by people who recognize them. The descriptions for items are relatively entertaining (as many of them are given their own histories and unique explanations), as are their unique powers, and the items themselves are both unusually useful and unusually well-balanced for a low magic world. The “basic world map” setup was done very well, and being able to see into the next area well before you can interact with it is something far too few modules do, making use of a long draw distance and making the world feel less like a series of small points. There are some sidequests to do, and it seems the player is given a decent amount of freedom to go where they please. I didn’t do much exploring because you’re later sent back to those areas on quests anyway (no point in having to travel there even more when you’re already going to be there five times), so the actual boundaries weren’t tested. I didn’t run into any bugs (or crashes, which is amazing) except one in defending a certain zone. Often a hangup can be fixed by saving the game and reloading said save.

I did notice that many of the quests and conversations (the one with Wang Xiyi and the other gnome comes to mind… Baixue was it?) are very one-sided when it comes to character opinions. There’s no option at all to be initially understanding of the situation and accept what has to happen, the character’s forced to argue morality and justice in the conversation with no regard for the fact that sometimes idealism and reality don’t match up. It feels a little awkward alongside all the blatantly illegal and “morally questionable” things you’re allowed to do without so much as a pause. I’m not saying every module needs to have options to play a chaotic evil jerkwad, but *some* options are nice. It can even be done while keeping the majority of the conversation intact.

Overall, it’s well worth playing. It’ll “keep you busy” at its worst, and be pretty entertaining otherwise. I did find it amusing that all of my stuff from my Bag of Holding (a collection of goods never used, more a museum of sorts) showed up in multiple shops around the game world… in a low-gold world, how am I supposed to afford a 10-million-gold chestpiece or amulet I crafted in Betrayer? That was worth a good laugh by itself.

So far this module is pretty fun, though 2 things are slightly off-putting.

1: Compared to the female version, the male version of the ranger outfit... is little... lacking. Not enough for me not to play but enough for me to use other normal armor that looks like it wasn't put together like a quilt.

2: On the mission 'Hold the line' or 'Line in the Sand' ...Half the militia is dead, the other half ran away. The goblin horde, their ogre buddy and I have been having our own little... fun. Fact is, i killed them with hit and run tactics and the journal won't update... I expected it to update when the militia commander died but... it didn't.

I hit a similar snag with that quest but I saved, quit, restarted, loaded the save and the journal immediately updated.
