Hey folks, i'd like to clear some things up so that you know what's up.
The mod itself is highly likely to work with every new version (even major ones) that Egosoft drops out. The changes this mod makes are very minor and even if Egosoft decides to completely rewrite the way station modules are colored it is unlikely that this mod will break something. It would simply fail to replace the corresponding entries (you'll see if it does in the debug log) and the game would continue to use the base values provided by the game, it would not interfere with your game or save.
That being said, there are currently two modules missing in the mod, the welfare modules and the processing modules. The color for those modules defaults to the regular color from the base game. But i'll update the mod asap. Added in 1.2
Another small point is activity and updates. I know that feeling if you see a mod that hasn't been updated for a long time, is it still safe to use? Has the modder abandoned the mod? I can assure you i'm here with you, even when i don't play X4 for a longer time i still visit the Nexus regularly and i check my notifications to see if any of my mods has new comments or issues (especially after major releases like a new DLC for X4 etc.). If for any reason i can't support a mod any longer i let you know directly on the description page. If you don't see any updates for this mod for a longer period of time it simply means that no updates are needed or nobody informed me that it needs updating. So if you notice anything odd let me know and i get to it asap.
That'll be it for now, thank you all for commenting, downloading, endorsing, voting and most notably playing with my little mod. Stay safe and fly safe! o7
Games installed via Steam are usually stored in 'home/<username>/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/'
After you're in your X4 game folder (the one where your X4 executable is) there is a folder called 'extensions' (without the ' ). Put the betterscancolors folder from the archive in it and launch the game, it should be there now.
For those who don't want station modules to be colored, except for the modules that have not been scanned yet, here is the simple changes to make to the parameters.xml file: - To make color transparent and thus disappear, replace fillalpha="32" by fillalpha="0" in all occurrences except for the "<undiscovered r="255" g="255" b="255" a="0" fillalpha="32" geomalpha="0"/>" line which should be left as it is, coloring in red the unscanned modules.
Scanning a station in real colors and full details (mostly hidden by the blanket of color) is much more enjoyable!
KoticR, maybe you should propose that version of the mod along side the current one. I really don't understand why the modules should be colored. Aesthetically, it is a loss.
Even tho i don't know what SWI is, my mod is highly unlikely to cause any issues with it. If SWI changes the values that i changed you would simply see their changes or mine depending on which mod the game loads last. If SWI adds new station modules then they would still show up and use the coloring they have specified, as i explicitly only change color values for vanilla modules. Don't worry this mod is super lightweight and would only conflict with a mod that does exactly the same. But even then it would not cause problems as it would be either/or and you would simply have mod in your modlist that's redundant but the game would function normally.
@FlynTie They're referring to the Star Wars Interworlds mod. Can't understand why some people feel the need to constantly abbreviate every little thing, expecting everyone else to just magically know the abbreviations.
I was also curious if this mod worked with Interworlds, and your reply answered that. With the way this mod is made, it seems like it would work even on large mods like Interworlds that possibly add unique station parts. Thanks for the answer, and for this mod.
Oh ok, i might have changed it to teal at some point for consistency since both are docking modules and forgot to update the description. Once 6.0 gets released for everyone i'll revise the mod and add any new modules if there are any.
Thanks for the work,it runs with the latest 5x version of the game. since i spend a lot of time building stuff i had to remove it,the fab parts are almost invisible in build mode.
It works, but it currently misses two "newly" introduced modules, the welfare and processing modules. But that wont break anything as it would simply use the color codes provided by the game.
But i'll update it tomorrow, it's currently midnight here and sleepiness is creeping up on me. :D
Is it possible to make the colors almost transparent?
I know it's not your mod's fault but I hate how the station pieces flash blue when I first fly by them, even when I'm not in scan mode. Or when I first undock on a new game and my entire screen turns blue because it instantly scans the docking bay.
Ok i've updated a few things which might have been the culprit but since i don't have the game installed right now i can't say for sure. If you would be so kind to check the new uploaded Light version and report back if it works now. If not i'm going to install X4 again and get myself up and running with 3.x.
Same with the new Light version and beta 3-8. The game remain in the black loading screen after the game start, Only CTRL-ALT-DEL and ending the x4 Process will lead back to windows. Sorry but it seems you should return to X4 ;-)

You can find the game folder from within Steam, here's a guide on how to.
