odd to me how people getting a mod for free criticize it instead of appreciating it or simply build off it to make what they want for their preference
    great work man

Just because its free, doesnt mean it cant be critizised or scrutinized.
Especially contructivly, but in any form whatsoever.
Also it doesnt mean they dont appreciate the mod, unless its total garbage, which is rare, most ppl scrutinize and critizise things they appreaciate and or like and want to be better or improved upon.

its easy to give constructive criticism without being rude

and it should be especially easy toward someone that makes something for free, if you or anyone else have difficulty with that, my comment is very much toward you.

and its free, the entitlement people have in here for someone to do even more free work than they already did is just ridiculous, they should make it themselves or donate then ask, sneering at someone for not making something free...perfectly for them, is just rude.

theyre all free to say it and im free to point out theyre being assholes about it :)

Professional complainers need to keep their fake news politics and agendas out of my sword and shield games.

Man-made light pollution doesn't exist. Skies have always looked like this. These people want to send us back to the stone ages so everyone can be as sad as them.

My dude, the "real sky" we see at night is due to urban environments' light pollution. Go to any rural area with no artificial light interference and look again.

The image in the banner is the actual image I used for the mod. I think it's some processing in-game that is being done that's dimming everything. I'll mess around with both the image and the shader graph to see if I can mimic something like a Bortle 1 or 2, which is what I presume the Witcher world would look like. Maybe I can publish different versions mimicking different levels of light pollution.

I see... You could try playing with the texture exposition levels, or play around with the skybox shader (if RedKit allows for that and you wanna go the extra mile).

I tried for many hours to see if I could modify the existing skybox shader to no avail as there is basically no documentation and I am also just very inexperienced with shaders. I was, however, able to adapt the Blood and Wine skybox shader, which seems to be much brighter and exposes more stars, as well as the gaseous disk to an extent. Please take a look:

There is an old mod that does the same thing you are trying to do, maybe you can ask the creator for help. Stars on Night Sky

I don't really like the only option that is available right now, so as you try to add a more realistic (and not so colorful) starry sky I will keep an eye to your project, cheers up!

Thanks for your feedback! I actually spoke to them a bit before I started working on this mod, and I think the difference between our mods is that the older one attempted to make it a little more fantastical, building off the existing skybox whereas I'm attempting to replace the original skybox with one that reflects the real star locations and constellations of our world. Regarding your last point, did you think the updated video from this thread had stars that were too colorful? If that's the case, I could try toning them down a bit.

      So that's good to know.

About the color of the stars, I think what I see in your video seems quite realistic. Also, a version where you could even see the galaxy would be great, I know it's not as realistic but it would be epic to be amazed looking at the stars and gas clusters xD.

Other than that, is the bluish horizon part of your mod? Or is it because of the vanilla lighting? idk but it looks great if it's dusk.

P.S. Sorry for the late response, Nexus didn't notify me of the response abheekd

Nice attempt on that kind of mod and i have to agree...the full twinkly stuff, is actually reality, if we take light pollution out of the equation, which in the times The Witcher is set in, was pretty much a non issue...step out of novigrad and enjoy and even in the city...the fires and co, are not even close to the orders of magnitude of pollution we have today.

That shows how it really is and how its supposed to be, more or less, in the game and why the sky is as twinkly and speckled as it is.
I'm using the old mod mentioned so far and i like it, but this one looks promising as well.

Thank you for the modification! The night sky has become significantly better. Is there a possibility to create an effect similar to the northern lights, like in BlitzFX?

Lol ..... its not our world  ..... the sky could look like just about anything.

It kinda scary how far you have to go into the bush to see proper stars these days

That's true, I just wanted to try out making this mod in the first place. On the second point, I am very much in agreement.

I'm pretty sure it is our world, possibly a different timeline, but probably not. I think Sapkowski has been trying to tell us what the 13th Century was actually like. I've listened to the audiobooks at least 4 times each. There's hints everywhere that history is being altered as it's being written. There's a lot of other theories about our world that would tie neatly into this, one of them having a monstrous amount of evidence, which is Tartaria, I've been deep diving that rabbithole for at least a year. If the theory is correct, then our history is drastically different from what we've been led to believe.
