Update TO CLARIFY: This won't work with other face mods. Because of how the textures work, you have to choose only one face mod - you can't layer them on top of each other. It will work with hair mods, eye mods, body mods, armor mods, but not other face mods.

    ---

I've had a number of people ask about making versions that use backgrounds from other Ciri face mods - no make-up, alternative complexion and so on. Unfortunately this takes a bunch of work that I don't have time for.

But I want to make it easier for anyone who wants to do this themselves, so I have uploaded the Photoshop files I made for this mod. So if you want to do that editing yourself, at least you can work with the actual scar layers in Photoshop, already separate from the backgrounds, rather than having to try and cut the scar out from the background in order to place it on a different background and so on. (And remember to check permissions when using other people's mod files - you already have my permission to use mine).

    ----

If you want to know the other mods I'm using in the screenshots it is these:

    Lore-friendly mods used in screenshots:
    Ciri Grey Hair
    Realistic Eyes Fixed (Book-Friendly)?
    Cat Armor for Ciri?

    I also recommend:
Immersive Real-time Cutscenes (so you can see the scar - and whatever other character mods you have - in almost every cutscene)

One problem with Immersive Realtime Cutscenes is that if Ciri has the wrong armor on before the Battle of Kaer Morhen cutscene, for one shot in the cutscene she will only be a head with no body. I don't know how the game decides which armors will and won't work, but some do (e.g. I can get the Cat armor to work, but not the Ursine armor?. Vanilla armor should be fine, but maybe not the optional DLC). So you might need to play around? until you get something you're happy with.

I've uploaded a second version. This will hopefully be the final version, but let me know if it looks weird in some lighting conditions and I will see if I can fix it. Thanks for the input on the design. Sorry if it's not the design you were hoping for. It was hard to get something that worked well in a variety of lighting conditions, but I think I've made something that looks pretty good. I hope you like it too!

Don't know if you know this but your scar looks similar to the one Ciri has on the new hardback of the Lady of the Lake book!

I haven't tested it on 4.04, but it should work. It's just a texture mod with no scripts so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. As long as you have it in a higher priority than anything else changing Ciri's face then it should work. Try it and see what happens.
  5. i did it i found the best ciri mod out there thanks

    Hello,

I'm currently using El's Custom COmplexions for Ciri... Will it be enough to just give this mod priority over that one, to have both El's face AND your scar?

Also, may I ask what did you use for her eyes?

Sorry, it won't work with other face mods. You always have to choose one face mod only because of how the textures work - you can't layer bits on top of each other unfortunately. You can change the eyes though (and the hair). These are the eyes I use:  https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/4341

    absolutely beautiful work!

Curious though; can you make it combatable with the lessened make up change (and the tear version) on this mod
Just curious was all! Still a wonderful mod as it's the closest to the book's scar we EVER got! fantastic work mate

      Thanks!

Unfortunately it's not really a matter of compatibility - I would need to make new textures that use both elements, which is time consuming. Maybe I will do it one day, but I don't have that much free time and I'm also not particularly motivated to do it because I think Ciri's make-up is consistent with the lore already. There's precedent for it in the books - CDPR were probably inspired by the scene referred to here: Ciri's early make-up. She's a bit older in the game, so I think it makes sense that she would tone it down a bunch, but I think the moody smudged eyeshadow still fits her character at this point.

If you ever feel like doing it yourself feel free to use anything in this mod. If you message me I could send you the photoshop files so you don't have to mess around with trying to do a clean cut and paste of the scar layer.

You could perhaps just make a version with the lessened make up like in that mod? obviously somewhat keep the tearstains as it works with her character yes, but I mean lessen it.

Thank you for the response btw. Still the best Ciri lore mod I've seen in ages

Looks pretty good! I have a question though, is this a complete new face mod, or can I use just the scar on other Ciri mods? Like Ciri from 4K women reworked.

Unfortunately that's not possible because of how the textures work. To change the scar you have to do the whole face. You'll be fine using body and hair from other mods though. You can also use eyes from other mods. This mod does include eye textures (vanilla), just because it won't pack without them. But I use a different eye mod and there is no conflict.

I made a sticky post about the problem of making other versions of this mod. If anyone wants to make other versions I have made it slightly easier by uploading the Photoshop files. But sorry, it still will take some work making new textures to get the look you want.

I guess I could have made this 4K from the start, but I am stuck in the past and still don't have the equipment that would allow me to properly test that.

I've been on a mission to make my game extremely book-lore accurate so this mod is perfect! I was wondering if you could make a version that has Ciri's face from El's Custom Complexion mod but with your scar texture? Thanks!

Thanks! Glad you like it. Sorry, I don't have time to make more versions of the mod. I have made a sticky post about this and have uploaded Photoshop files in case anyone wants to do it themselves. Sorry, it's not necessarily easy to do if you haven't done that kind of thing before, but having the Photoshop files makes it a bit easier.

By the Gods THANK YOU!!! It's been a thorn in my ass since the game came out and FINALLY someone fixed it. Well done. Anyone who's read the books knows that there are several inconsistancies with the story but, that aside, at least get the looks right. Now if we can only get Triss's scars right we'll be on the right track. I know I seem petty about this but I like accuracy in things based off of books. And done EVEN get me started on the TV show.... Anyway, thanks again and very well done.

Glad you appreciate it! Have you seen this new mod - Triss - Sorceress in Hiding - outfit reworked? Doesn't deal with the scars, but at least it fits with her vow to never wear a plunging neckline again.

Looks great! The backwards J shape never made much sense to me even if it was a sword strike let alone a glancing throwing star. Weird angle to cut unless you were specifically going for an eye and I don't see how a throwing star would really curve like that especially that cleanly. Also like how you made it look much more like a healed scar rather than a pretty fresh one which makes no sense considering the games take place like 6+ years after the books. Perhaps my only constructive critsism would be some small faded suture/needle marks running along the length of the scar if you wanted to be super anal about accuracy. This line in particular highlighting it, "surrounded by needle punctures and marked with the scars from the stitches". However, it looks great as is so no pressure haha. Also perhaps a makeupless version however that's only because I hate her racoon eyes and not because of any legitimate reason lol. Endorsed for sure, love me some lore accurate mods.

Thanks, glad you like it! Yeah, the vanilla shape really doesn't make much sense. I didn't do stitches scars because I didn't think they would be visible years later. I was thinking that since Vysogota made that remark just after removing the stitches, it's a comment on how gruesome it looked at the time, not how it might look in the future. But I've just now had a look for photos of old scars that still have marks from the stitching, and well, yeah, they really can be quite visible a long while later. Apparently it depends on how long the stitches were left in, how precise the stitching was and other factors. So yeah...maybe I will need to do that at some point. Not sure when I'll next a get a chance, but I'll keep it in mind.

I'll think about a no-makeup version too. Not sure I could do a good job of it though. I've noticed problems with other no-makeup textures. Like sometimes they can make the creases under Ciri's eyes appear more noticeable so she looks like she hasn't been sleeping or something. It's not that the modder has changed the crease, it's just that removing the makeup changes the composition of the face in a way that makes other features more prominent. So it might take a fair bit of work to do something I'm happy with.

But for lore reasons I would almost want to go in the opposite direction. CDPR were probably inspired by the scene referred to here: Ciri's early make-up (but toned it down a lot). It would be cool to have a mod with make-up like that.

Anyway, we'll see what I have time for. Thanks again for the endorsement, I appreciate it!
