This mod appears not to be working, for me at least. I've reinstalled it several times but Geralt does only medium range attacks. I've tried decreasing the IdleTime but it doesn't change anything. The mod doesn't conflict with anything else I'm using either. I'm playing with a controller. Can anyone confirm?
That could be affecting the modifier binding then. Try removing that mod, resetting your input.settings file to vanilla, then modifying it based on this mod. Let me know if that works.
I've resolved the issue - it was something to do with UNC but after reinstalling them both they are indeed compatible. Mod works perfectly now. Thanks blibby.
has anyone thought of implementing two distance modifiers, to be more faithful to W3EE? So that a choice exists between short, medium and long range attack?
It's principally easy to implement but I chose to forgo it for a couple of reasons.
1. It adds additional control bindings to keep track of and I preferred to try to make this a relatively lightweight mod for higher compatibility
2. Since this does not fundamentally change combat or animations as a standalone mod, I felt that the distinction between short and medium attacks didn't really merit a special modifier. Most enemies will generally approach or leap at you to reduce distance at which point what was a medium attack is now a short range one. Long range makes sense because it is a good way for Geralt to aggressively close distance from a position he's otherwise not able to realistically hit his opponent from, and gives the player the choice to try and weave in and out as a combat tactic.
All that being said, time permitting I may make a flavour of this mod with a medium vs short distinction added.
Just so anyone looking here knows, this does not seem to be compatible with the 4.0 Next Gen update, I got several errors trying to launch the game with this mod. If anyone had success let me know, but otherwise its 1.32 only
I've done a preliminary update. Looking at the scripts, it doesn't seem like much of what this modifies got changed in the next gen update (thankfully) so just needed to merge this with other (presumably unrelated) changes made to the same script file.
That being said, please feel free to report any issues you see if the next gen update doesn't work
You can try modifying the IdleTime property for each of the control bindings in the input.settings file. I went with what I felt was easily distinguishable between an accidental press and an intentional press but others might find that not as responsive.
As an example: [Exploration] IK_LShift=(Action=DistanceModifier,State=Duration,IdleTime=0.2) IK_Pad_LeftThumb=(Action=DistanceModifier,State=Duration,IdleTime=0.2)
Change the bolded property to some lower value and that should help.
