This mod will allow to join one yellow (perk category) ability with another or join three yellow abilities together on the character screen by spending additional skill points.

How does this work?

To merge two yellow abilities first equip a yellow ability into a skill slot, then drag another purchased unequipped yellow ability to the same skill slot. Instead of unequipping the first yellow ability and equipping the second one, a purchase will be proposed using skill points if available. Repeat this with a third ability to increase total number of yellow abilities in the same skill slot to three.

After abilities are merged, effects of all merged abilities are active together while the merged abilities occupy only one skill slot.

Updated! Mod Merge Yellow Abilities v2.0.0

I have learned how to write mods using annotations to minimize conflicts, and have rewritten this mod using them!

๐ŸŒŸ Installation Instructions for Merge Yellow Abilities ๐ŸŒŸ

  • Download the Main File:

    • Regular Main File:
modMergeYellowAbilities โ€“ This is the base file that merges only allows merging perks without increasing the mutagen bonus. It aligns with my original vision of the mod. ๐ŸŒฟโœจ
    • For Slots, Slots, SLOTS (Next-Gen Compatible):
modMergeYellowAbilities-SSS โ€“ Use this special main file instead of the regular modMergeYellowAbilities file if you are playing the Next-Gen version of the game and want to take advantage of Slots Slots SLOTS! ๐ŸŽฎ

Important: Only one Main File should be used at a timeโ€”either modMergeYellowAbilities or modMergeYellowAbilities-SSS, depending on your needs. Do not use both together. ๐ŸŒฑโŒ

โš ๏ธ Warning: Do not attempt to mix v2.0.0 with v1.0.0. There is no point in doing so, as the files and features have been restructured in v2.0.0, and mixing them could cause issues.๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿ”€
  • Optional Files (to Enhance Functionality):
These files can be combined with the main file (whichever you choose) to further enhance the modโ€™s features:

    • modMergeYellowAbilitiesHighBonus โ€“ This optional file lets you stack the mutagen bonus for each individual perk in the merge, allowing for a significantly increased bonus. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ’ฅ
    • modMergeYellowAbilitiesMergeAny โ€“ This optional file allows merging of any skills, but it does not increase the mutagen bonus. Perfect for those who want more freedom without altering the bonus. ๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

If you want the same functionality as modMergeYellowAbilitiesUnrestricted from v1.0.0 in v2.0.0, simply install both modMergeYellowAbilitiesHighBonus and modMergeYellowAbilitiesMergeAny from v2.0.0 alongside the main file. This combination will give you the ability to merge any skill and stack the mutagen bonus, offering a more flexible (and unrestricted) experience. ๐Ÿ’ซโœจ
Versions v1.0.0 (without annotations, available in old files section):

  • modMergeYellowAbilities - base version, allows to merge only perks and does not increase mutagen bonus (my initial vision)
  • modMergeYellowAbilitiesHighBonus - this version stacks mutagen bonus for each individual perk in the merge, allowing increased bonus
  • modMergeYellowAbilitiesUnrestricted - this version should be considered unbalanced as in addition to the increased bonus allows to merge any skills
  • modMergeYellowAbilitiesMergeAny - this version allows to merge any skills but without increased bonus

How much skill points does it cost?

Merging two yellow abilities
will cost as much as upgrading both these abilities to level 2, by default upgrade costs one skill point, so merging two yellow abilities would cost 2 skill points.

Merging a third yellow ability with two merged abilities will cost as much as upgrading all three of these abilities to level 3, by default upgrade costs one skill point, so merging three yellow abilities would first cost 2 skill points to merge two abilities and then additional 4 skill points to merge third ability.

Maximum three abilities can be merged to be equipped in the same skill slot.

Skill cost is actually technically implemented to calculate upon upgrade cost of ability. So if used together with some mod that allows perks to be upgraded and changes the upgrade cost (no, I don't know such mod) it could theoretically cost more skill points then to merge.

What will happen when merged abilities unequipped

When merged abilities are unequipped they are unmerged.
All skill points spent on merging will be refunded.

It would not require a potion of clearance.

How to visually distinguish merged abilities?

Merged abilities in the skill slot will show amount of abilities merged together instead of ability level number. In the list of abilities their level number would remain unchanged. The number on the ability icon in the skill slot is technically not a level number, so it theoretically won't cause the effective level of ability to be changed if used with a mod that allows to upgrade perks.

The icon would show last ability that was merged into the merge. But you can change this icon to any other ability already merged into this merge by dragging another of a pair or a triple of merged abilities onto the slot.

The tooltip on the equipped merge will show details which abilities are merged.

How does the mod technically saves merges of abilities?

The properties of abilities themselves are not touched, and neither the mod adds any more abilities. The mod doesn't add any new gameplay or quest facts. To save the merges the mod uses a custom property added by the mod in the game\gameplay\ability\PlayerAbilityManager.ws to store an instance of the SkillMergeManager, a custom class included in the mod. The SkillMergeManager stores the merges property.

I didn't have found about this way of storing data in a modding guide, so I didn't know what I was doing, It was an experiment that seems to have paid off. Let me hear if there would be issues.

Uninstall

To uninstall the mod, unequip all merged abilities to refund any skill points then delete the mod files.

Loading the save without the mod after saving with merged abilities still equipped would just leave the last ability equipped in the skill slot where the merged ability was, but to restore the skill points in this case a potion of clearance would be necessary.

Compatibility

I have tested it with Restored Content - Additional Perks - Next-Gen and Restored Content - Yellow Mutagens - Next-Gen and so far found no issues. If you find any compatibility issues, let me hear about it and maybe I'll decide to fix, but no promises.

For Slots Slots SLOTS (Next-Gen compatible) use the special main file modMergeYellowAbilities-SSS
