    The file structure of the assets have changed slightly, with some of the DLC data being put into separate .dat file. This has made it so that we cannot unpack some of the DLC data, such as the codex data, gallery data, and music data as the modpacker doesn't recognize codex-dlc1.dat, gallery-dlc1.dat, and music-dlc1.dat

    Is there a way to change what files the modpacker extracts or is that something you would have to change?

    Hey, I realize this is an old project, but now with official modding tools out, I think this is still the most reliable way to obtain the official assets for edits.

    When extracting sprite data, it seems as if you're extracting the image files, but not the .ase files that the game clearly knows about (they're referenced in the sheet.json files). Is there anyway to provide the .ase files? They make bulk editing with the new modding tools a lot easier, especially when using Asesprite.

    Hi, I'm an okay-ish artist, and I wanted to tweak the portraits, but I'm not sure how to get the files to edit them, even extracted they become this weird format, I'm a complete noob at this part of the stuff and wondered if anyone could help me get the files?

    I've tried, and haven't gotten far. Can anybody provide the process to add new units to the game? The steps posted earlier don't work/make much sense. My end goal is to add custom animations and everything, if people have any help regarding that.

    HI, so I'm trying to apply the Hidden Editor Content Mod, but it's not working. I have the latest versions of both the modpacker and the mod, and before trying to install it I verified the files on steam (it had to fix 3 files), deleted the mod_bckp folder, and only then opened the modpacker tool and applied the mod.

    The main menu has that message saying I have 1 mod installed after I do this, but the mod simply isn't taking effect. Everything functions as if there was no mod installed.

      I'm not to sure what went wrong in your case.
      I just tried installing the mod and it worked without problems.

      I'm using the OpenGL version of Wargroove, am playing on Linux using Proton, could either of these have caused the issue?

      I have tried another couple of times, resetting the files and wiping the mod_bckp each time, and it still isn't working. Can you think of any way/reasoning that the main menu would be telling me that I have 1 mod installed, but that the mod isn't working?

      Something about the game files must be getting changed successfully because the main menu has the message on it and steam has to replace 3 files whenever I verify integrity, but somehow the desired changes aren't happening.

      Try using the portable version, just replace the jar in the portable download with the one from the newest version.

    Important steps for getting mods to work correctly after the latest patch:

    1. Make sure the game is in vanilla state (verify integrety in Steam).
    2. Then go to your wargroove installation. (should be [steam]/SteamApps/common/Wargroove/assets)
    3. In this directory delete the "mod_bckp" directory and restart the Tool.

    When I apply mods, and then close and later reopen the file, is it normal that no mods are listed?

      The Tool currently has no way of knowing the state of the game after being restarted, so yes it's normal it is listing nothing.
      (That is also the cause for the slight update troubles)

    Hey, for some reason my try at a patch seems to not work... It is as follows:
    patches:config.dat_unpacked/section_0/strings/en-GB.config.json
    {
    "patches": [
    {
    "path": "en-GB.ui_menu_main_singleplayer",
    "operation": "SET",
    "value": "S:This is an example text..."
    }
    ]
    }
    basically tries to switch the "Single Player" text at the main menu to an example text, and it doesn't work.
    I put the file (named "patch1") in the patches folder, and pressed "Apply changes to game". the result is a totally normal game, with no changed text.
    Any idea why it happens? Help would be very appreciated.

    Edit: Btw, I checked for modifying the file itself, and that works for me, but i still prefer to understand why the patches don't work.

      I'm actually not quite sure what is going wrong.
      Creating a file with the exact same content you posted works for me.
      (If you know how to do it, could you please start the Tool with a console and copy what it prints when you press Apply changes)

      E:\ModPacker-1.6.2>java -jar ModPacker-1.6.2.jar
      Found Wargroove installation at: E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Wargroove

      success

      That's what the console prints when i unpack the data then try to apply the changes. it says 1 and success when applying the change but after i open the game it doesn't change anything

      Edit: I tried packing the mod and adding it as if it was a normal working mod. what i got is:
      Searching for modified files...
      Found 0 potentially modified file(s).
      Found 0 override file(s).
      Found 1 patch file(s).
      Found 1 include file(s).
      0 file(s) were actually modified.
      Mod has 2 file(s) including patches.
      Which should be fine i think.

      Ok, for some reason the patch file is not detected when clicking Apply changes.
      But it is detected when packing the mod.
      I honestly don't know what could be causing this issue.
      (Does your patch file have a file extension? If not try adding one (any will do, ".txt", ".json" or whatever you want)

      edit: Also make sure there are no leading or trailing spaces or similar characters on the "patches:..." line.

      I forgot to add - even after packing and loading like that, it still doesnt work.
      By the way, the file has a .json extension and there seem to be no leading/following characters

      Edit: I found the problem! The file was encoded as UTF-8-BOM instead of UTF-8
      I switched the encoding and it worked.

      Huh, I would have thought that the BOM should not be a problem.
      But after some searching I found that Java does not discard the BOM and treats it as data.
      I might add code to handle that case, but not as an update for that alone.
      In the mean time it is recommended to use editors that do not include the BOM by default.
      (Should be basically anything other than the default Windows Notepad)
