it's the point, mush darker, no reay tracing at all in any way or, maybe so subtle that you can't see it. i know that there is Rac traced possibility in Reshade now but so heavy in ressources (for a good visual) that it's not for today with recent game, mayve for some game who already have 10y or more, maybe. This reshade is... just a personal tast of darker.
I too had a 970, and though the card is awesome adn still handles everythign I throw at it, I upgraded to a RTX2070, primaraly for the extra gigs of vram, and the raytracing as well as some other features.
As somebody who has made presets with Marty Mcfly's RT shader, my most popular one being for Vampire the Masqurade Bloodlines.
I must say you have done an incredibly poor job of creating a preset thats viable for other people to use, you've darkened the screen so much your literally hiding detail thats there in the original image.
I recommend putting it back in the oven and dedicate some time to learning what each variable does, and opt in for a more subtle approach, that enhances the image, not change it for the worse.
Just trying to help people out with something I liked the look of. Your right, I didn't spend a lot of time and I don't intend to. I floated this out for people who prefer the look of the screenshots (which I'm sure they are capable of viewing).
Dont like it? Don't install it. You're making out presets to be some epic complex undertaking -- its a few integers in an ini file not an application. The results of which are subjective.
Relly I look at it and I say, "why would someone want to do this? What is the point of addressing this as Ray-traced? So you downgrade the graphic and consider this an artsy?... I do not get it. If you want a darker image just lover brightness and you are set.
Would it be possible to have a half strength version? Some rooms look unnaturally dark for the way it's lit by the surrounding lights. Some screenshots show lights having the reach of a candle. What looks good looks really good though.
The DoF is cool but this is WAY too dark. There is no way you can actually play the game as intended with this amount of darkness.
OP, are you sure your monitor is calibrated to universal standards? <--- this is very important for any visual work that you are sharing. You shouldn't be playing in such dark environments for long periods either, it induces eye strain; especially when you are required to look at things in the distance. And if you're playing in a lit room you actually cannot see anything whatsoever which again, promotes eye strain to make out details on the screen. Make that darkness a little more subtle, you went overboard. Health comes first !
The performance hit on 10 series cards and RTX cards will be the exact same, as this is not real Ray Tracing, its screen space, and is called such because its using its ray casting method to build the post processed shaders.
If your noticing a performance hit, hit SHIFT ENTER and look for RTGI, within its variables there will be RayStep and RayAmount, both of which are the main kickers in performance, there values to dictate the image either as the other variables provided do most of the work both of those values represent how many rays are being cast.
Raystep at 10, and Ray amount at 4 is what i find to be a perfect balance for people with weaker cards then my own.
It will run but you will take a perf hit....how big? Not sure. On my RTX hardware its a very low impact but without the dedicated hardware the hit be larger. Its only 1-2fps on RTX HW though, which means it may be enough to stomach even if you have a 1080. I dont have one to try.
Assuming you have a copy NOT from windows store (that ones locked down) download https://reshade.me/ and point it towards the "The Outer Worlds\Indiana\Binaries\Win64\IndianaEpicGameStore-Win64-Shipping.exe" binary in your game directory. Load in my INI file too.
Download the RTGlobalIllumination extra shader separately from https://www.patreon.com/posts/how-to-access-31657015. It's not free right now, the beta is $5. It's going to be free on release.
Once you downloaded that extra shader drop it in "The Outer Worlds\Indiana\Binaries\Win64\reshade-shaders\Shaders".
