Thank you so much for this excellent sound patch! Truly appreciated.
One thing I'm curious about: My recent experience suggests the two fanfare files ("FANFARE1.voc" and "FANFARE2.voc") should have capitalized extensions (".VOC") to effectively overwrite the original files. Perhaps this depends on the version of Arena installed, but the GOG installer for the CD version (1.07) seems to have "FANFARE1.VOC" and "FANFARE2.VOC" so I ended up with two pairs of fanfare files (one pair with ".voc" and one with ".VOC"). Might be worth investigating. Regardless, thanks once again!
Oh, it's easy! There are a few different ways to handle it, but I installed the GOG version via Lutris. Ultimately, it runs through DOSBox, just like on Windows. 🙂
I don't know why the names are mixed up. Maybe someone got confused while editing the sound files and they didn't know what is supposed to sound like what. It wouldn't matter unless you mod the game. It's not the first time I see an error like that. You could take a look at OpenTESArena on github, I think they have a wiki that details how some formats work. The tool ArenaToolBox from UESP is useful to extract individual IMG files if you're making retextures. To change the actual behavior of the game, you need to learn x86 16bits Assembly and edit the binary of the game.
I think you should merge your sound mods together since they are similar. Using multiple download files instead of multiple pages. It could be called JoylessJoker Sound Swaps.
from urban dictionary: sound ***** - term used in gaming when a player relies 95% on what they can hear to play. Sound ****ing - The act of having everyone else go silent in order for you to be able to better hear where enemies are. If you are asking why they used the noun ***** originally, you might want to ask a sociologist.
Does this mod work for the new steam version of arena and if so how do I get it to work? modding the steam version is a little bit trickier but so far I've managed to get every other mod to work except this one.
Can someone tell me, what is this line means in the description? "..from the FDIE file and renamed it SKELETON, like the author did, which is actually the spider file."
The original FDIE.VOC file is a screaming noise when someone dies. The original SKELETON.VOC is just a "noise". (I can't figure it out what is that noise want to be by listening to it...)
So, what is this spider thing? And what author Corsafire1 talking about? And what is the SKELETON.VOC supposed to to be originally?
You have to put the files where the launcher, saves, dosbox settings and img files are located. This is the main folder, the one that is named after the game. This location is by default: C:\Games\Bethesda_Softworks\Arena It could be a different one for you.
