About this mod

Valiant is a "Vanilla-Plus" skill/perk overhaul for Starfield that improves the skill system with more meaningful, logical and impactful bonuses as well as moving skills across different tiers and trees. It unlocks new playstyles but still feels familiar, very few skills are left untouched. It also changes backgrounds slightly.

Some ideas I had coming into reworking these skills, if you agree with these you will probably enjoy this overhaul

  • Avoid descriptions that don't describe perk well ("slightly increased", "noticeably increased") and add actual values instead.
  • Unique effects are more fun than stat increases but they have to be good and make sense.
  • You shouldn't be forced to pick up useless effects in skills you enjoy. (a prominent example of this is targeting buffs for ship weapon perks when you might not even be using targeting in the first place)
  • Tier 4 perks should be an upgrade on tier 1 perks, but not just in terms of "strength". They should always be an S tier perk for their playstyle and worth rushing as soon as possible.
  • There are a few ways you can buff a "bad" or "boring" skill, either buffing the stats, adding more interesting effects, combining them with another "bad" or "boring" skill that makes sense, or making sure they're available earlier. Multiple of these can apply at once too.

Some of the highlights include
  • Energy Weapon Dissipation combined with Pain Tolerance (and also adds in effects from the cut skill "Mindfulness"). Taking points in either two felt really niche so combining them into one for a damage resistance perk made sense.
  • Scanning removed and its effects given to Deception (renamed to Piracy) and Geology. This skill felt all over the place and like it was built for two different playstyles at once.
  • Major buffs for unarmed builds, melee builds, demolitions builds, chem builds.
  • Robotics and Astrodynamics swapping skill trees. Both felt pretty out of place in their respective trees and make much more sense the other way around.
  • Long Hauler background starts with Payloads, Diplomat background starts with Negotiation
  • All skill challenges from my previous mod "Inconsistent Skill Challenges Begone" are incorporated into this.

Known Issues/Things to Note
  • This can be installed mid-playthrough, but I'd recommend finding a way to re-spec, either with console commands or a mod. (doesn't have to be done though of course) Best results will be had with a new playthrough. This goes for updating also (although less-so)
  • Skill icons haven't been changed, so Robotics and Astrodynamics stick out slightly in their respective skill trees because of shape and color of icon.
  • A couple skill-specific dialogues may not trigger due to them either being removed or merged into another skill. These are extremely few and far between
  • Crew skills haven't been changed, so no new buffs will apply from your crew but they will still have all the old ones.
  • Obviously not required but this will work exceptionally well with my other skill mods: Momentum, Bloodrush, KenjutsuCoffee Fiend, Beginner's Luck, Sentinel and Aerobics

Stealth
Rank 1
Adds a Stealth Meter. You are 25% more difficult to detect when sneaking. Suppressed weapons do an additional 10% sneak attack damage. 
Rank 2
Upgrades the Stealth Meter. You are 50% more difficult to detect when sneaking. Suppressed weapons do an additional 20% sneak attack damage.
Rank 3
You are 75% more difficult to detect when sneaking. Suppressed weapons do an additional 30% sneak attack damage. Move faster for 10 seconds after a kill with a suppressed weapon.

Running while sneaking doesn't affect stealth. Ranged sneak attacks do 3x normal damage and your melee sneak attacks do 6x normal damage.

You gain a Chameleon-like ability when completely still and sneaking. Ranged sneak attacks do 3.5x normal damage and your melee sneak attacks do 8x normal damage.

Engaging stealth causes distant enemies to lose you. Ranged sneak attacks do 4x normal damage and your melee sneak attacks do 10x normal damage.

Intimidation

You can detect more information about ships in space. Ships 10% stronger will automatically surrender to piracy demands. Enemy contraband scans are 10% less effective.

You can detect more specific information about ships in space. Ships 20% stronger will automatically surrender to piracy demands. Enemy contraband scans are 20% less effective.

EM weapons do 40% more damage and have a 20% chance to do 300% EM damage.

Targeting
Rank 1
10% increased accuracy and range when shooting without aiming. Marks up to one enemy within 25m that damages you.
Rank 2
20% increased accuracy and range when shooting without aiming. Move speed increases for 10 seconds after a kill without aiming. Marks up to two enemies within 50m that damage you.
Rank 3
30% increased accuracy and range when shooting without aiming. Marks up to three enemies within 75m that damage you.
Rank 4
10% chance to disarm targets hit when shooting without aiming. Marks up to four enemies within 100m that damage you.

Tier 3

Particle Beams
Rank 1
Particle beam weapons do 10% more damage.
Rank 2
Particle beam weapons do 20% more damage and have a 20% increased critical hit chance.
Rank 3
Particle beam weapons do 30% more damage.
Rank 4
Particle beam weapons do 40% more damage and deal 20% more critical hit damage with headshots.

Armor Penetration
Rank 1
Attacks with ballistic weapons ignore 15% of a target's armor.
Rank 2
Attacks with ballistic weapons ignore 30% of a target's armor.
Rank 3
Attacks with ballistic weapons ignore 50% of a target's armor.
Rank 4
Enemy armor is decreased by 50% for 6 seconds after a critical hit.

Sniper Certification
Rank 1
Scoped weapons are steadier and have less sway.
Rank 2
Headshots while aiming with a scoped weapon have a +25% critical hit chance.
Rank 3
You can hold your breath twice as long with scoped weapons. Critical hits on headshots do 10% more damage with scoped weapons.
Rank 4
Scoped weapons do 50% more damage while using the scope and are much more stable.

Tier 4

Crippling
Rank 1
Human enemies have a 20% increased chance to enter a downed state after taking enough damage.
Rank 2
Humanoid enemies have a 30% increased chance to enter a downed state and a 50% increased chance to not naturally recover from a downed state.
Rank 3
Humanoid enemies have a 40% increased chance to enter a downed state and now can enter a downed state earlier.
Rank 4
Previous ranks now apply to all enemy types. You now do 100% more damage to downed enemies.

Sharpshooting
Rank 1
Increase headshot critical damage by 50% with ranged weapons.
Rank 2
Increase critical damage to enemy legs by 50% with ranged weapons.
Rank 3
Increase all critical damage to enemies by 50% with ranged weapons.
Rank 4
Ranged critical hit kills increase your critical hit chance with all ranged weapons by 25% for 20 seconds.

Marksmanship

Increase critical hit chance with non-automatic ranged weapons by 10%.
