You installed everything correctly, but you need to enable a setting for Vortex (if you're using it) to do what it needs to: Enable the "plugin management" in the Load Order menu. If you've ever used any asi install (ie any custom dll) then you'll want to remove that and revert to the vanilla one(s) *first.*
A very simple detail that should be added to the mod description.
wSkeever has published a lot of mods for Skyrim and Starfield. You call it obtuse, I'd call it "sick of answering the same question over and over because people can't follow instructions".
Thank you very much, cause this small little freaking detail made some other mods (ramp- and summonship-control) finally work. 25 years of using and making mods and there you stand, freaking out about some small peace of information.
I can imagine the pita sometimes working in support myself, but the vibes here and there could have been prevented I guess^^.
I mean lore-wise, the ship's grav drive when powered would technically be generating the gravity field inside the ship. But it's a nice mod to have. "setting gravity" could be interpreted as "turning off your grav drive". Or if you want to get even more immersive, tie the mod to the reactor power allocated to the grav drive component. As long as there's at least 1 power to the grav drive, the gravity is on. If the grav drive has no power allocation, then it's zero-G.
There is one real problem with an otherwise great mod. The landing area requirements are simply too rigid. I much prefer having the controller as opposed to using a bat command or hotkey like Call Your Ship, however I can't get this thing to land practically anywhere.
Please loosen up the suitable landing area requirements! Also increase the size for those of us flying larger ships!
So I am not sure what I am doing wrong but I am not able to get the remote to show up in my inventory I have done everything like you said in the description and no matter what I try remote just doesnt show up.

I use Vortex. I downloaded Plugins.txt enabler via Vortex, I already have SFSE again via Vortex and then I installed this mod via Vortex. The item doesn't show up in my inventory.
I see several other posts about this. Is there a solution for this?
If you follow the directions to a T your plug text should look like this .. # This file is used by Starfield to keep track of your downloaded content. (You HAVE to keep a # on the first line here)*Navigate Using City Terminals.esm*Ship Remote Control.esm*Grendel-Skins-Minx.esm*Infirmary.esm
No since the update the only mod that is not working for me is this one.
Check if other .esm mods load, if you put them in your plugins.txt. If you're not getting a message when loading your save, the whole plugins.txt is not being read and you should focus on that issue.
For me on GamePass things didn't work well until i moved all Data files to the game install folder. I think Vortex did that for me with the recent update, enabling hardlinks.

Not sure what's going on. I added the mod, it seems to be "working". I have the ship controller item in my inventory and can even equip it. It doesn't seem usable though. It appears in the left hand when equipped. When I click the left mouse button I punch, when I click the right button the tablet spins in my hand. I don't get any kind of interface or anything. Tried to hotkey it, still nothing. I don't have any kind of UI addons or anything. Any suggestions?

Agreed. It's literally the only thing that would make this mod pretty much perfect. As it stands, I prefer the call your ship mod because you can literally land practically anywhere.
+1 Running around half and hour on a almost perfect even planetsurface to find a suitable landingsite. Could there be a unsafe variant of the mod? But I like it in general.
Love this mod. I use Starvival and Deadly Hazards. I came out of a mine, and found I had a 2k trek back to my ship, low oxygen level and full day light, which would have been a radiation hazard I was not ready for. I was totally screwed. Wait, I can call my ship to come and get me. Did, and it was a life saver. Great mod!

Follow all required dependencies' instructions.
I suggest you use mo2.
Vortex does not do this for you

Read the instructions here, it's a bit of manual work:
Plugins.txt Enabler

I recommend using latest mo2 beta to avoid user error

Also a more accurate custom icon replacement for the favorite menu would be the cherry on the cake.
Endorsed anyways.
