edit: nevermind, the Textures folder in Photos was overwriting it. this mod still works. thank you!
Message of the day and Photo mode creates a Data/textures folder in Documents\My Games\Starfield\ which is prioritized. I deleted this folder and added these two lines into starfieldcustom.ini:
after that, all texture mods in data folder (game exe location) worked. Hope it helps.

probably not news, but this isn't working on latest update. data/textures is in place. no change in-game. tried multiple approaches for StarfieldCustom.ini:
Speaking as somebody working in IT and cyber security, the idea of running an unfamiliar BAT file from a game modding website is a huge non-starter. Sure, I don't have any reason to doubt the author here, but it would be far from the first time somebody used the hype around a new major release to make a mod that was actually distributing malware.
I completely understand, we all have to evaluate our own security risks. I would point out that there are MANY open source projects that use batch scripts, it is not uncommon practice and should always be seen as a potential risk factor.
It is not necessary to use the batch script at all. The directories are very self explanatory and can easily allow you to do the selection manually.
But but but, they're "speaking as somebody working in IT and cyber security", how come they cannot tell an innocuous install batch when they see one?! The non-pompous, helpful answer would have been to avoid boasting about one's (alleged) social status and just give a hint about environment variables usage (like Stavanzer did below).
I can tell an BAT file is innocuous just fine, thank you. But your average person typically CAN'T. That's what drives my comment. The number of users I've seen over the years wind up with viruses or compromised systems because they grabbed a seemingly innocuous BAT file somewhere and ran it when they couldn't themselves tell if it was safe or not is staggering.
My comment is more along the lines of best/safe practices than it is 'I think I'll personally get a virus from this'.
And yes, as Jaerin said, there's plenty of community and open source projects that use batch scripts. For some projects, it's just a necessity, there's just too much to do to leave it in the user's hand to do it start to finish. This, IMHO, isn't such a case where one would be needed to accomplish the purpose of the mod. And it does indeed look like the folder structure would be very easy to install without needing the batch file at all.
Which, given the fact Nexus has quarantined it anyway, may prove to be the only real route forward. It's almost certainly the batch file that's holding it up.
It was quarantined again because I had to fix a small problem with the batch script. It's an automated process and it was simple to get it unquarantined. I understand you feel that your expertise in some other part of your life makes you feel like you should be a guardian of the less knowledgeable, but you're on a fool's errand that is only pointing out your own insecurities with that supposed expertise.
As you mentioned the directory structure probably doesn't need it, so why do you care if there is an installer? Why do you think I should be concerned that my mod is getting double-checked when I update it before it's available for public download? I appreciate the fact that I have to go through the extra step. It does not bother me.
You are the Karen that gets upset on behalf of others that are not complaining. You think you are a warrior for some cause, but really you're just coming off as some guardian no one asked for.
Dude, I'm not attacking you, take a breath. Granted, I can see why it might feel that way, so let me clear that up. This is a good mod you've made, and one I've been eagerly waiting for. It's good stuff, and you've done good work.
I don't think I'm a warrior and I'm not asking to speak to the manager. All I was doing was offering my opinion based on my experience, that's all. I apologize if, in doing so, I inadvertently offended you. Wasn't the intent.
Getting all upset as a mod author and calling someone Karen isn't exactly a good way to build trust with people. I've seen .bat files that look harmless, but do TERRIBLE things, because people don't understand what everything contains. Granted, your bat file is harmless, but it causes some level of "suspicion" whether harmless or not, because it's a very potent delivery system for wrecking havoc.
And now, to add to the trust, latest version is marked as quarantined, most likely due to

This rule's specification leads to blog post about Bumblebee malware.
So even though this mod seems great, I guess we're left with using 0Time's Better Visible mods series.
I'm not the type to generally comment on this kind of thing, but as an unprofessional modder, even if I sometimes understand that certain comments can cause irritation, seeing a modder get angry and make disobligent remarks in the comments towards a caring person, because he in no way denigrated the Mod just raised a concern that many may have, by giving a simple constructive opinion, saying that it is a KRAKEN and that they speak on behalf of people who don't care, it's not because people don't comment that they don't care about the potential risks, it's a bad example to give confidence because basically you are clearly saying that people who don't comment you don't worry about it, and yet, on Nexus even if you are not the only one to do this, it still remains an uncommon practice and is not recommended (quarantine), you don't want the users to have to do it all, well you have FOMOD, which many inexperienced people use either through Vortex, MO2 or others, because quarantine and your behavior doesn't really make you want to trust and perhaps by bad luck some inexperienced users catch a virus... don't not by your mod of course, but not knowing where they will think it's you, sorry to say it, but it's Modders like you who give a bad reputation to all the other modders, if you stupid people aren't capable of 'accept constructive and kind criticism, even if it raises problems with your mod..., well don't make public mods it will be simpler.
are there any plans to add a crafting category (if that is even possible)? that's what's bugging me the most with bethesda's highlight system, finding crafting mats amidst all the clutter.
don't get me wrong, i love me some toilet paper, hundreds of pencils, impact drivers and all the other useles rest, but whoever came up with the idea to highlight all the crap, sorry buddy, but maybe game design isn't for you.
Have you tried tracking the Mods/Research/etc from the workbench/research/build menus? They show up as a different color highlight. There's also a Mod that does more.
After installing it didn't work for me. The .bat file just closed without copying after I selected the files. So maybe I did something wrong when I copied the files. I'll try to get it to work. My other mods are working, so my custom file should be setup right.
hi, is there anyway you could upload a version that highlights just the border of an object rather than the whole thing? it'd be even better if it only applied to using the scanner, similar to how object borders highlight blue when using it. it'd be much appreciated!
Hey all, stick around a bit longer. I sent the mod creator jaerin a FOMOD installer file. It worked on my end so hopefully it works for everyone here. Once they approve and upload of course.
It includes all the varity you'll need. You can choose color and type for each catagory. If you want max magazine but detailed credits you can have it. All interchangeable. And of course if there's something you don't want you can skip it too.
Yeahhhh... the bat file didn't work for me. It appeared to, but then I didn't find any of the textures in the right locations. In fact, I didn't find them at all. So I went ahead and moved them all to what I think is the proper locations. Hopefully they all work now. It was a little confusing with them not having the full folder hierarchy.

really would love something like this as it's tiring to constantly switch scanner on and off and inspect every inch of the environment.

Also your magazines option is missing textures/items/magazines/magazineconstellation01_[rough/normal].dds
