Changing Landscapes and Rainy Days
While the initial land is fairly limited, rainy and snowy days cause sunken logs to float to the surface, which grant access to three extra islands. The two smaller islands to the west are connected to each other by stepping stones and have a small dock for fishing, however tillable land is limited. The larger island to the east stands alone, but is entirely tillable. With a mini-obelisk, you can gain consistent access to one set but not both at the same time; how will you utilize this challenging terrain?
Additionally, rainy days bring out more fish. While the swamp always includes the town fish, rainy and snowy days cause the Slimejack to emerge, as well as the Void Salmon once you've been to the Witch's Swamp.
To add to the atmosphere, a thin mist rises from the waters early in the morning, late at night, and under certain weather conditions. All props to Aimon's Small Swamp Farm for the idea and implementation method for adding the mist. Island access and mist are both fully integrated with Weather Wonders.
Paludiculture
Inspired by the real life practice of wet agriculture and forestry on peatlands, the rich soil of the swamp farm adds a unique change to farming: extra crops are treated as paddy crops, automatically watered with an accelerated growth rate when planted near the water. Even on islands where grassy patches cannot be tilled, a stretch along the waterline has been left to allow paludiculture layouts. The Starter Gift includes both seeds that are and seeds that are not paddy crops here.
Additionally, after a full year of diligent study of this new practice, a few more crops will become paddy crops. For a full list of the Paludiculture Crops, see the Articles tab. These changes to crops only apply to save files using this farm.
A Lovely Day For Some Slime Eggs
Stay on the lookout; a new trader will occasionally show up on your farm. More than anything she wants Slime Eggs, and she has rare goods to trade for them. She has a small, rotating stock for every color of Slime Egg, (including Tiger Slime Eggs, once you make it to Ginger Island), so try to keep some on hand for her. For full documentation of the Slime Egg Trader's stock availability, see the Articles tab.
But she's not the only guest who may appear. Keep an eye out, someone else just might rise from the ground, someone a lot less friendly...
Late Game QoL Renovations
The challenge of arranging a farm across inconsistently accessible areas is a key part of the idea for this particular farm map, but I do understand that by late game that kind of challenge may start to feel unnecessary. For those who wish, a very late game, fully optional renovation has been made available to add full accessibility to the swamp.
Installation
Simply download the Swamp Farm zip file and unzip. You'll find 2 folders, [CP] Swamp Farm and [FTM] Swamp Farm; place both in your Mods folder and it's ready to go. The [FTM] Swamp Farm folder is optional as it only adds one relatively rare event...
Compatibility
- This mod uses unique, seasonal tilesheets, so recolors may not mesh on the farm. If anyone wants to edit the Swamptiles tilesheets to match recolors, go right ahead.
- I have not tested it with SVE, but I'm not aware of any reason why there would be a compatibility issue.
- This mod is compatible with Weather Wonders, with high precipitation weather conditions added by that mod factoring into this farm's malleable landscape
- If you have Cornucopia - More Crops installed, some of those crops will also qualify as paddy crops when using this farm
