About this mod

Yet another replacement portrait for the wizard.

Requirements
Permissions and credits
Changelogs
I will only post this mod here on Nexus. If you see it elsewhere, it's not from me.

What is this mod?
This is my wizard portrait replacement. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Config Options
Portrait Mode:
The number of portraits. Each option was created based on a mod that requires (or is best with) that number of portraits.
  • 2 portraits for Vanilla
  • 7 portraits for Stardew Valley Expanded
  • 9 portraits for Romanceable Rasmodius
  • 12 portraits for Romanceable Rasmodius - SVE
You can use any of these options with any mod that supports them, but these mods were what I was using to match up the portrait expressions. It defaults to 12, so make sure to change that with Generic Mod Config Menu if you are using a different number.

Earring:
Enables or disables Magnus's earring. Enabled by default.

Blush:
Enables or disables blushing on flirty/love portraits. Enabled by default. Most of you probably want to just leave it enabled.
This is meant to make things easy for anyone using these portraits and a platonic mod for the wizard. In the 9 portrait mode, there is one portrait that still has blush regardless. That's because WerewolfMaster (creator of the original RomRas) said it's specifically used for embarrassment and other portraits are used for flirty dialogues.

Chest Hair:
Whether Magnus has chest hair or not (visible in his summer portrait). Enabled by default.

Mermaid's Pendant:
Whether, when married to Magnus, he wears the Mermaid's Pendant in his portraits. Enabled by default. (Not visible in his Winter Outside portrait.)
!! The code should work, but I was unable to test this option myself. Please let me know if it doesn't appear. !!

Why should I download this mod over others?
I made this because, although there are a lot of
really amazing wizard portraits out there, I was never 100% satisfied with any of them. I'm finally doing a save where I will romance the wizard, which motivated me to finally make my own version of him.

Basically, I wanted my ideal version to...
  • Match the vanilla pixel art style, so it wouldn't clash with the other mods I use
  • Look like a grown man rather than a teenager/young adult (No shade to those mods, I've downloaded several and enjoyed them!)
  • Have a proper wizard hat rather than a cowboy hat
  • Have seasonal versions that weren't just hair recolors
  • Have enough portraits that it will work with Romanceable Rasmodius - SVE
  • Look like the sort of man who would live in the forest removed from human society, speaking to forest spirits, and yet be trustworthy enough that you would actually drink his trippy forest brew after you seek him out for help understanding the mysteries aforementioned forest spirits.
  • Just have the right ~vibes~. I can't explain it, I just know it when I see it. Or don't see it and spend an inordinate amount of time hyperfixated on drawing it myself.

If those things appeal to you and you like the images I put above then this is the mod for you!

Will you add seasonal/festival/versions for different mods?
There's a lot of things I want to do for this still, but it is a working vanilla wizard replacement, so I decided to upload what I have.

What I Have Completed:
  • Two portrait version to replace the vanilla portrait
  • Twelve portrait version for use with RomRas - SVE
  • Seven portrait version for use with SVE
  • Nine portrait version for use with RomRas (Original or Updated)
  • Seasonal portraits and sprites
  • Mermaids pendant

What I Have Planned:
  • Firstly, finish a 12 portrait/expression version for RomRas - SVE.
  • Make a 7 expression version for SVE
  • Make a 9 expression version for vanilla RomRas
  • Figure out how to make the earring, blushing overlay, mermaid's pendant, and other potential future accessories optional via config.
  • Make seasonal versions of the portraits. Which requires me to also...
  •    (Make seasonal versions of the sprites)
  •    (Figure out how to code for seasonal versions of the portraits & sprites.)
  • Make festival versions for at least some of the festivals
  • Add a mermaids pendant version that either appears automatically when married or can be toggled via config
  • Lastly, bask in the warm glow of a fully completed project.

What I Will NOT Do:
  • I will not make a 32 expression version.
  • I will not make portraits for other characters.

If you've got suggestions or ideas, you're free to toss them at me. However, I make no promises about doing those ideas unless they happen to catch my interest.

Can I edit this/update it/use it as a base for my own mod?
I give blanket permission for anyone to use the portraits, code, or anything else I've uploaded as a part of this mod. If you use any of the art, please credit me. If you do, feel free leave me a message in the comments, I'd love to see what you create!

One exception to the blanket permission: please do not use this mod to create anything nsfw.

If this ever breaks in an update and I'm not responding, or there's a bug and I'm not responding, feel free to make and even post your own updates.

Why have you ghosted/stopped updating/dropped off the face of the earth?
Look, I'll be bluntly honest here. My interest in specific hobbies waxes and wanes according to the whims of time and chance. I'll obsess over a hobby for a few weeks or months, wring every drop of dopamine out of it, then I'll completely drop it in favor of a different hobby. If you also have ADHD, you know exactly what I'm talking about. If you don't have ADHD, you might still know what I'm talking about.

As of writing this description, I am back into Stardew Valley because of the 1.6 update. I'm certain I'll stick around long enough to complete the 7, 9, 12 portrait variants (Done!), but I'm honestly not sure if I'll stay invested long enough to complete the seasonal versions. That said, Stardew Valley is a game I repeatedly come back to play and the scope of this mod isn't huge. I do think I will complete all of my planned items eventually.

Credit:
I looked at a lot of different things for references, but I have to credit the drawing that catalyzed this particular "big & bearded" look for my Magnus. (And just share it, because it's a cool character design!) Garvalt, the Wizard of Ashes by Andy Bui
The sprites are based off of the lovely Fantasy Wizard Seasonal Sprite Overhaul by boringvlln
Without Romanceable Rasmodius, Romanceable Rasmodius - SVE and the original Wizard Narrative Overhaul I would never have made this mod.
Thank you to all the lovely people in the Stardew Valley discord who helped me and encouraged me!
