NOTE: This mod is not a dialogue expansion mod. Its function is primarily to edit the existing dialogue to be conditional based on seeing Shane's 6-heart event and edit his marriage dialogue to not casually reference regular drinking after he's supposedly making an honest attempt at sobriety. If you prefer something like this but with more dialogue added, I suggest using Immersive Shane now that it's been updated to 1.6, since it seems to cover a lot of the same functions. This mod was made when Immersive Shane had been inactive for a while, and is made for those who prefer an almost-vanilla experience, partially because I'm better at coding than I am at writing. :)

Addiction is complicated. Relapses happen. This mod does not aim to sanitize Shane's behavior or character. However, I find it tonally inconsistent to have a character recognize he needs help and make an honest attempt to change only for him to continue to reference regular drinking in other cutscenes and even after marriage directly to the player, who is pivotal in his journey to seek help. Part of this is because gift tastes and event dialogue can't change in the base game based on conditions, but with the ~*~magic of Content Patcher conditions~*~ we can fix him.

Features:
If the player has seen Shane's 6-Heart Event:
  • Clean Shane's Room: Cleans Shane's bedroom floor from trash and footprints, and replaces the beer spills with an open books and his cans with small succulents. (Presumably the book is a game guide for the latest game he's cheating his way through.) This looks fine in the ranch house but can be weird in the spouse room since the objects are repeated -- I didn't want to have to edit any tileset collision data so that this could be compatible with spouse room mods. This being said I HIGHLY recommend you use a spouse room mod anyways because they breathe much more life into the rooms, especially Shane's.
  • Palette: If you want to clean Shane's room and are using a recolor, select the recolor from the menu. Otherwise, it'll default to Vanilla. (Currently supported: Starblue Valley, Vibrant Pastoral Recolor) [Thank you to @Jay33721 for providing me with a preformatted tileset for Vibrant Pastoral!]
  • Gift Tastes: Shane has unique dialogue for receiving alcohol items, and they are updated to a hated gift. Joja Cola is now a liked gift. (source: 14-heart event & "buh... where's the joja cola")
  • Event Changes: Shane no longer drinks on his 10-Heart date, in Clint's Saloon event, or in Alex's 14-Heart gridball watching event.
  • Daily Dialogue Changes: Shane no longer drinks at the resort, and references his drinking in the past tense when referring to Tunnelers games.
  • Festival Dialogue Changes: Shane is sober at the Night Market and at Spirits' Eve

Note: the specific condition is not the scene in which you find Shane by the cliff, but the day after when he comes to the farm to talk to the player. According to a recent test, the changes should occur the day after the player witnesses this, which for me, fits the narrative.

If the player is married to Shane:
  • Marriage Dialogue Changes: Shane no longer casually references drinking regularly to his spouse. His random gifted items have replaced beer and pale ale with pizza and ginger ale. (similar sell prices to the other items, the luck buff is balanced given that the replacements are unaffected by professions)
Optional Features:
  • Additional Marriage Dialogue Changes: Updates Shane's slightly more gross lines to be just a bit less gross while keeping the same flavor.
  • Missing Marriage Dialogue: The only part of this mod that expands dialogue. Because they were added as romance options later, Shane and Emily don't have spouse dialogue for some festivals in year 1. This adds a new line of dialogue for those festivals.

ALWAYS ON:
  • In Shane's dialogue for the new 1.6 Stardrop Tea, he says it tastes like beer. :/ Since it can taste like anything (it tastes like tuna casserole to George) it tastes like pizza from the big city to Shane. Since the taste of the tea shouldn't change based on an event, this change is always on. Plus, why would an item that gives even more friendship than a loved gift just taste like an existing loved gift?

I'm keeping this mod as small and vanilla-matched as possible so it should be super non-invasive. If you find any typos or bugs, let me know so I can fix them!

Another note about the content of this mod: This version leaves room for Shane to still struggle with sobriety, if that is how you read his character. Personally, I think that Shane could have been a better character than vanilla if he either cut back on drinking and the writing was consistent with that, or if he was completely sober and the writing was consistent with that. Not everyone who struggles with addiction can just go completely sober cold turkey, and that just isn't the right path for everyone either. It just didn't make sense to me that he would be so casual about drinking to the player after everything that happened between them specifically.

(I do plan on making a 14-Heart event replacer for Shane but no promises yet and it should still be compatible with this. If it happens it will be a separate mod.)
