About this mod

Adds a number of frog friends and a new custom building for them to live in. Created for Stardew Valley 1.6!

Changelogs
This mod is for Stardew Valley 1.6 and requires Content Patcher to work! If you're on an older version (i.e. SDV 1.5.6), you want BFAV Frog Friends, which relies on a third-party framework that is no longer officially updated.

As of version 3.0.0, the requirements for this mod have changed due to the added custom buildings! It now requires DaisyNiko's Tilesheets and HxW Tilesheets. Please make sure you have the required mods before updating!

Do you love frogs? Do you want the ability to have a completely unnecessary number of different types of frogs on your farm? Then this is the mod
for you! Wow, it's amazing that this is an unmet need anyone has ever had, or ever will have.

What's Included

♡  A whopping 14 different types of frogs, both mundane and rare, including colorful varieties of poison dart frogs and tree frogs. They're available from Marnie and cost 2000 G each.
♡  These industrious little creatures will find forage items and gems for you! Check below the spoiler tag in the next section for specifics.
♡  New in version 3.0.0: Robin can build two new custom buildings, the Terrarium and upgraded Big Terrarium, for your frogs to live in! Other coop animals can live in the terrarium as well.

Okay, But Tell Me More About the Frogs

For those of you who thirst for more frog knowledge, the species that are included in this mod are as follows. I've included links to Wikipedia and the Latin names in case anyone wants to look up some Neat Frog Facts™!

♡  American Green Tree Frog (Dryophytes cinereus)
♡  Red-Eyed Tree Frog (Agalychnis callidryas) — a.k.a. the best frog and my personal favorite!
♡  Clown Tree Frog (Dendropsophus sarayacuensis)
♡  Blue Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates tinctorius azureus)
♡  Golden Poison Dart Frog (Phyllobates terribilis) — the largest species of poison dart frog, they clock in at a whopping 55 cm (2.16 in)
♡  Strawberry Poison Dart Frog (Oophaga pumilio) — specifically, the "blue jeans" morph, which is predominant in the wild
♡  Amazonian Poison Dart Frog (Ranitomeya amazonica)
♡  Purple Fluorescent Frog (Atelopus hoogmoedi nassaui) — okay, technically this one is actually a toad (a super, super beautiful toad)
♡  Fire-Bellied Toad (Bombina orientalis) — ...and this one is actually a frog, because common names are like the Wild West
  ♡  Pale Frog (Litoria pallida)
♡  Northern Glass Frog (Hyalinobatrachium fleischmanni) — I have taken some liberties and this fellow is partially transparent all over!
♡  Desert Rain Frog (Breviceps macrops) — just please for the love of all that is holy click on this with your sound on
♡  Vietnamese Mossy Frog (Theloderma corticale)
♡  Amazon Milk Frog (Trachycephalus resinifictrix) — some literal blue-bloods

TL;DR: When I was little I wanted to be a herpetologist, and now you all have to suffer for it. You're welcome.

Where Do the Frogs Live?

Version 3.0.0 of this mod adds new custom buildings, the Terrarium and Big Terrarium, for your frogs to live in! No longer do you have to worry about them desiccating in the coop, because now they have a lush and comfortable building all their own. While the Terrarium was made to house frogs, other coop animals can also live in it if you want! (You can also choose to keep your frogs in coops as in earlier versions of this mod.)

The base Terrarium holds 7 animals and costs 5000 G, 300 Wood, 100 Stone, and 20 Moss to build. The upgraded Big Terrarium holds 14 animals (enough space for one of each frog!) and costs 1000 G, 400 Wood, 150 Stone, and 40 Moss to build. The Big Terrarium also has an auto-feeder installed!

The building exterior changes seasonally, which can be seen in the mod images above. I tried my best to design it to fit with the Medieval Buildings/Flower Valley aesthetic, just because I love them, but I'm open to trying to make a more vanilla style option as well if people want that. My eternal gratitude for the open asset permissions for DaisyNiko's Tilesheets and Simple Foliage, without which the exterior would just be a very sad vanilla coop recolor.

The trough on the interior automatically recolors based on several interior recolor mods, but you can also specify a recolor to use manually in the config. The supported recolors are Vibrant Pastoral Recolor, DaisyNiko's Earthy Interiors, Elegant Town Interiors, and Rustic Country Town Interiors. It is easiest to configure this mod using GMCM, but if you are manually editing the config values, the valid options for "TroughRecolor" are "Auto", "Vanilla", "Earthy", "Elegant", "Rustic", and "Vibrant Pastoral".

Worried about your existing frogs from earlier versions of this mod? They will still live happily in their coops! I'm unsure if it will allow you to move them into a Terrarium if you choose to build one, but since all coop animals are allowed in the Terrarium I'm hoping that's the case.

Credits

A giant thank you to sapphicursa for agreeing to let me mess with their mod back in 2020 when I originally made BFAV Frog Friends, and for inspiring me to launch myself straight into modding in this very specific, self-indulgent way.

Huge thanks to Another Pillow, who created BFAV2CP, a Python program that converts old BFAV mods to CP so they can be compatible with SDV 1.6. This provided such a valuable baseline for me to jump off from!

As mentioned above, thank you to DaisyNiko for the open asset permissions on DaisyNiko's Tilesheets and to dugongkebalik for the open asset permissions on Simple Foliage, both of which make the Terrarium exterior much better than it would have otherwise been. Also, thank you to Gwen for the beautiful mod Medieval Buildings, which I attempted to emulate and which you should definitely check out!

Finally, let us all join together and give praise to ConcernedApe for Sebastian's 14-heart event. I wasn't spoiled beforehand and I straight up hollered at my computer. Thank you for making all of my marriage dreams come true.
