this is absolutely horrifying and hilarious to me.... i cant wait to see my friends faces XD *downloaded immediately and cant wait to make personal additions!!!!*
i can't get anything that uses alternative textures to work but i love the concept behind this. The Stardew Catalogue. (reference to The Mandela Catalogue.)
i know some mods toggle where monsters can spawn. i wonder if they show up on the wilderness farm? could we make them spawn after dark in the town or something? even make a storyline of it. like mr qi does something and you end up in an alternative dimension. or like npc adventures. alternate invasion.
More specifically, since I didn't want to elaborate in the DSV server so as not to make members of the server uncomfortable and you didn't bother asking for further information, the violent implications were specifically about the long real-world history of violence as a hate crime against people of colour, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people. DSV is a mod about positive representation and I denied compatibility on the basis that I refuse to allow the possibility of someone using it so they can live out violent bigoted fantasies.
I did predict that, but as a part of queer community I have nothing against horror as a genre. Can it be misused? Most certainly. But that in itself is no reason not to add diversity. It's like you suggest not to add diverse characters as potential victims to thrillers and horror.
This would be a fun use for alternate sprites. So if you* had sprites for Pierre from vanilla, DSV, Slightly Cuter, and, idk, one of the furry mods, you could add all of them and then it would be like a multiverse of Pierres in the mines...
*you meaning a person making a personal edit; not suggesting the author actually implement every sprite option ever XD
I have actually contacted DSV for a permit, and Airyn denied it, because as they put it, they are not comfortable with violent implications. I might contact other sprites' authors, but a permit is no guarantee. Of course, the edits needed here are very simple, it is literally cropping. I think I'll put up a guide.
If it makes you feel better, it would have been a little difficult to do for DSV anyway because of all the overlays used to create different effects.
If you're looking for suggestions (?) I love Monster Valley and Fairydew Valley for fun takes on the NPCs. Monster Valley would be especially appropriate. Oh, and feel free to add the Lorax. XD But his walk cycle is kind of... horrifying in its own special way.......
Nah, looking at the sprites, it's mostly real easy. Overlays are for tattooes/moustache/sunglasses, so they don't usually matter for most of it. And even when they do, you can just add them as an extra layer.
Thanks for the recommendations, I don't think I've seen the second one! Gotta try some time. Well, I have to see that walk now...
Sure, simply delete texture_20.png and texture_27.png from both folders. Same with any other character you'd like to exclude. Then you need to open texture.json with Notepad and in the last line change
"Variations": 34
to "Variations": 32. Or less, just look at the number of .png files left in the folder. Save the edits and you're good to go. Additionally, you'd probably need to rename the remaining files to avoid gaps.

Thank you for your hard work!
