This mod is a pack of unique dialogues for the characters of Stardew Valley Expanded for giving and receiving gifts at the Winter Star, if they are eligible to do so!

Of note is that this pack only adds unique dialogue for those who are able to give and receive gifts at the Winter Star. SVE only adds seven characters to the pool of gifters and giftees - specifically:

  • Marlon is excluded in vanilla by the Stardew Valley code, but SVE changes his internal name so that Marlon is able to give you a gift at the Winter Star.
  • Andy
  • Susan
  • Sophia
  • Claire (once you've seen her 6 heart event)
  • Victor
  • Olivia

If they are not part of the above list (and are SVE-specific), they cannot give you a gift at the Winter Star at any point in the game. If you believe a character is missed, let me know! However, Winter Star exclusions are unlikely to change until Stardew Valley Expanded updates.

But enough early descriptions. What actually changes?

GIFTING VILLAGERS GIFTS

As with Unique Winter Star, due to the probability of an override dialogue from other modpacks specifying particular gift reactions and the fact that the key is meant to respond to any gift, dialogue changes are generally small to gifting SVE villagers gifts - mainly, most changes will approximate the villager's personality, with some dynamic tweaks dependent on where you are in their story arc. If you're interested in which dialogues are dynamic, there's a spoiler list below.

  • Andy will be neutral toward you until you've seen his 8 heart event, at which point he'll be more friendly and appreciative that you're his particular gift giver.
  • Sophia will be less enthused about interacting with you until you've completed part 2 of her 7 heart event, at which point she'll be far more lively when you are her gift giver in particular.
  • Datable villagers will be modified to show you are dating them, unless engaged. (If engaged, they will use the default or high hearts regular dialogue, since it would be nearly impossible to get them as your gift giver in the engagement timeframe.)
  • Married villagers will similarly have dialogue specific to them being married!


RECEIVING GIFTS FROM VILLAGERS

Like Unique Winter Star, each villager will have a specific reaction to being your gifter. All SVE candidates use the same gift pool as most vanilla villagers (e.g. same gift pool as all villagers except children, Robin, Marnie, Evelyn, Clint, and Willy), so there are no dynamic changes based on the gift pool.

This portion also dynamically changes with many characters with story progression and heart levels (mainly the datable characters).  I've tried to make sure almost every SVE villager has some dialogue change based on their storyline - an exhaustive list is contained in the spoiler section below.

Regular changes:
  • Andy's introduction dialogue will change based on whether you've done the Community Center or Joja Route and seen the resulting cutscene in his home afterwards.
  • Like with the gift-giving dialogue above, Sophia will be quieter and more nervous when gifting you a gift at lower hearts. After helping her around her house in the second part of her 7 heart event, she will be much happier to have you as her secret friend!
  • Victor and Olivia's dialogues will change based on if you have married the other (Victor will reference you're their new parent, while Olivia will be happy to gift her son's spouse a gift!). Don't expect anything to change if you've married both somehow, though - dating is one thing, but marriage would be impossible to write in-character dialogue for if you married both!
  • A small note: Claire can only become a gifter at 6 hearts, so her initial dialogue is already friendly enough. However, this also means if you are using debug mode, you should never comment out Claire as one of your two Winter Star villagers unless she is six hearts!

Datable Villagers will have their own gift dialogues, and:
  • Claire's dating dialogue will reference if Joja is still in town (and will not change if you go the Joja Route!), if Joja has been run out of town but the theater hasn't been built, or if the (Community Center) movie theater has been built. (Again, due to how the dialogue is written, Claire's dialogue will not change on the Joja Route, as she will still be working under Morris and the Joja Corporation, regardless of the theater being built!)
  • Victor's dialogue will change depending on if you've seen his 10 heart event. In the remote chance that a user gets Victor as a gift-giver before seeing his 8-heart event (which is viewable even before dating him!) there will be a fallback variant to prevent a minor spoiler, but in general that dialogue is not as fulfilling as having seen the 8-heart event, so I advise seeing the eight heart before heading to the Winter Star, if dating him.
  • Olivia will have a minor variant if you have not seen her dating eight heart event (distinct from her regular 8 heart event at the Saloon).

Married villagers will also have their own gift dialogues, and:
  • As with Unique Winter Star, there is a double unlock spice configuration to imply your spouse's physical desire for you for all four eligible marriage candidates that can give a gift. That said, the spice in this particular dialogue pack is rather mild, so don't expect anything on the level of Haley in this particular pack - it did not quite fit the characters to give them risqué dialogues!
  • Sophia's dialogue will have a variant if you've attended a convention with her.
  • Claire's dialogue will be affected on all routes depending on if you've seen the Thief of Justice. (Don't know what that is? Keep playing SVE!)
  • Victor shines in this particular portion of the pack - his dialogue will change based on if you've seen his 12 heart event, the beginning portion of his 14 heart event, and if you've completed the entirety of his 14 heart event sequence.


NEW IN 1.6: NEW GIFTERS!


The power of Stardew Valley 1.6 allows for people to be set as gifters, even if they were previously unable to give gifts. With permission of the SVE developer, this mod (configurably) allows Scarlett, Morgan, Martin, and Gunther to be gifters, and allows Lance to gift you without marrying him, if enabled. For more specifics on each:
  • Scarlett will attend near Sophia if you've unlocked her as sociable. If she's not sociable, even if you've met her, you won't manage to get her as a gifter or giftee (nor show up). She'll definitely make mention that she's headed back to her own Winter Star afterwards!
  • Martin will always show up if enabled, and will be next to Claire. (Whether Claire's happy with that or not is up to interpretation.) If Claire isn't available, Martin will still show up, but near the tables.
  • Morgan will show up at the Winter Star regardless of installing this mod (they're normally there), but they'll be a gifter if enabled.
  • Gunther will show up regardless, but will only be a gifter if he's sociable.
  • Lance's config is complicated, but in short, if enabled he'll show up in his (marriage) spot, with a platonic variant of his usual dialogues (unless he's married - I'm not altering that!).
  • Additionally, the Wizard will get extra dialogues if enabled in Unique Winter Star (and will show up at the same place as 

NEW IN 1.6: CUSTOM GIFTS!


Like Unique Winter Star, this add-on pack also comes with the option to enable Custom Gifts for each SVE person participating in the Star (added or normally!). While the gift list doesn't particularly add any 1.6-specific items unlike Unique Winter Star itself, this mod does add SVE-specific items. (Sophia or Olivia might gift you some nice Blue Moon Wine, and Marlon might give you a few nice Elixirs from Castle Village's outpost!) Like UWS, each villager also has an ultimate gift, which is added to the pool at high hearts (high-quality elixirs like a Lightning Elixir from Marlon, or Aged Blue Moon wine from Sophia). If you're underwhelmed by the gift pool (or think it's too powerful), please let me know! I can always adjust with feedback.

New in 1.6: Choose Your Winter Star Gifter???

With the release of SDV 1.6, patching whether people can gift you at the Winter Star has never been easier! If you don't want Andy to gift you or just dislike Marlon for some reason, you can remove them from the potential gift pool.

This mod, on its own, just affects SVE villagers, so the toggles are a bit short. However, with Unique Winter Star installed, you can feasibly have just Sophia and Lance in the pool and get/receive gifts from only them! Simply disable vanilla people at the Winter Star and whatever SVE characters you don't want to gift and you'll end up being able to choose your Winter Star gifter/giftee.

As with UWS, please make sure to always have two or more people in the Winter Star gift pool. Having one may lead to unintended outcomes, and having zero will crash your game (so make sure at least one person's enabled at all times).

CONFIGURATIONS

The configurations in this pack are essentially carbon copies of Unique Winter Star. For clarity's sake, what they do are contained in the spoiler section below, but if you've played with Unique Winter Star, you likely get the idea (and can skip over this).

  • Enable Spicy Dialogues and <Villager Name>: Double unlock, to prevent spicy dialogues from being accidentally activated. To have the spicy dialogue from a villager, check the Enable Spicy Dialogue box and swap whichever villager or villagers can use spicy dialogue. While you can enable every single one, you will only see results for every villager if you've installed Free Love or another polyamorous mod and moved the relevant villager into your house. Otherwise, you can only have one spouse - and thus one set of spicy dialogue! A reminder that this particular pack's spicy dialogue is mild, so this config is mainly to determine whether you would like or not like any oblique references to you and your spouse doing something NSFW.
  • Custom Gifts: Activate this to use a Custom Gift pool for each NPC! (Don't worry, most will still have a chance of giving you a Tea Set!).
  • <NPC Name>: Choose whether the villager is in the gift pool and whether they have this mod's dialogue changes applied.


COMPATIBILITY


This pack is meant for use with Stardew Valley Expanded, so is compatible with that, and will not interfere with other expansion mods installed. However, there are some notable differences from my prior pack for the vanilla characters.

  • Unique Winter Star: This mod is designed to be used alongside the original Unique Winter Star, but does not need it to be installed. Feel free to just run this pack and not the original if you just want changed dialogues for only the SVE characters, or to run both.
  • Solstice Winter Star: While Unique Winter Star's dialogues are compatible with Solstice, Solstice does not offer compatibility with Stardew Valley Expanded. As such, there are no Solstice variants in this pack. If you would like to make Solstice dialogues, then you can edit this mod's i18n dialogues to be more friendly to it, but given the mods may not even work together, I elected to not create dialogues for that.
  • Platonic Partners and Friendships: There is currently no PPAF support for Stardew Valley Expanded characters, and Platonic Relationships will only end up potentially giving you dating events (I'd have to recheck the code to see if all 10 heart events are blocked off by the dating condition). As such, there are no current Platonic variants for the character. (I would love to be able to write platonic versions, though, so if anyone gets permission and creates such a mod for the Expanded characters, or if one already exists, let me know and I'll attempt to write some lines!)

This mod should have gender neutral dialogue - if there are any problem areas, let me know, or if there's better phrasing (e.g. Olivia has to refer to you as her son's spouse - gendered dialogue would be son or daughter in law, but child in law sounds awkward and I'm not certain there's better phrasing?).

This mod is also fully i18ned and thus fully translatable! If you'd like to make a translation, simply request to do so on the posts section and assuming there hasn't been another translation of the same language, then you should be approved in short order. The translation can simply be a JSON file that is dropped into the i18n folder rather than a complete reproduction of the mod.


FUTURE UPDATES


This mod, as is, should be a finished product at present time, though it's always possible some bugs slipped through the cracks. Most dialogues were already tested to make sure they worked - due to the temporal effort necessary, though, let me know if one of the marriage variants or the Joja route dialogues are not working. If they aren't, let me know and I'll make a bugfix patch as soon as I can.

Unlike Unique Winter Star, this mod is a pack of dialogues made for a mod which is constantly being updated. It can be used at present and should be fine even should Stardew Valley Expanded update, but this is not always a guarantee. If a dialogue is improperly firing (or not firing), it may be due to an event id change, an internal name change (e.g. if "MarlonFay" reverts to "Marlon", which is code-restricted), or any number of issues. Let me know and realistically I should be able to bugfix as soon as possible.
