Playing Stardew Valley got me through the early months of the pandemic. As crazy and unsettling as the world became, I could still sink into Stardew and escape for awhile. After many hours playing the vanilla game, I started playing with mods. Eventually, I decided I wanted to try writing a mod myself.

Stoffton is a place that lives in the collective imagination of myself and my sister, JiveBaby, brought to life by the incredible artwork - sprites, portraits, building exteriors - drawn by her daughter, Cassie Rain. This project has consumed us for several months and we are excited to share it as a beta even as we continue to work on completing some of the finer details and polishing additional heart events.

This project would not have been possible without my partner, Craig. His support and understanding have been invaluable through this process. He has listened to mind-numbing descriptions of my successes and my frustrations learning to code, taken over meal preparation while I've chased down errant commas and extra spaces, and fielded endless questions from his colleagues about this "passion project" of mine. He engaged in ten days of brainstorming during our covid-isolation period, when we were trapped in a cruise ship stateroom. Ultimately, he gave voice to the majority of the married, male characters in Stoffton.

This is a beta-release! All 48 NPCs have dialogue, schedules, and can be gifted. Many of the NPCs have heart events (the current version includes 160+ heart events and 48 heart-dependent letters), with many more to come.

Stoffton is a massive undertaking: 2 new large maps, a total of 39 locations, 11 shops, 48 new NPCs (of which 14+ are marriage candidates), along with heart events and progressive storylines. Stoffton connects to the base game via my earlier mod, Fostoria. But Stoffton can be played alone, using the bus for access.

Stoffton should be fully compatible with other expansion mods such as: SVE, RSV, ES, etc.

Please note: The very first version of this beta did not include a version number. If you downloaded the first version, you may not get update notifications from SMAPI. Downloading the current version will solve this problem.

New Marriage Candidates

Stoffton is home to 13+ new marriage candidates. (See the wiki for details on marriage candidates because some can be added or changed.)

Schafer Ranch

Entering from Fostoria (or leaving Stoffton to the south), you will enter the Rocky Ford map which holds the Schafer Ranch, currently operated by Otto and his sons: Josef, Mac, Odo, and Rolf. (Odo and Rolf are marriage candidates.) Otto's mother, Fiona, also lives on the ranch. Many of Otto's siblings - Gerhard, Helmut, Johanna, and Felix - can be found in Stoffton.

The southern portion of Rocky Ford includes a small abandoned quarry area that once supported the growth of Fostoria. Fostoria was largely, but not entirely, abandoned when the quarry ceased operation years ago. A future mod is planned to explore the quarry area more fully.

Stoffton

Stoffton is a mill town built in the style of turn-of-the-century (late 1800s) midwestern towns - shops on the first floor, with residences above.



Erik runs the grocery store and owns many rental properties in Stoffton. His wife, Nadia, teaches elementary school students in Stoffton. They have two children, Vasha and Quinn. (Both are marriage candidates.) Erik rents out rooms on the third floor of his building to individuals, including Brina and Xen. (Brina and Xen are marriage candidates.)



Helmut, one of Otto's younger brothers, runs a pickle shop. His wife, Greta, works part time at the grocery store. They have five children: Brina, Ebbe, Matius, Garth, and Olive. (Brina and Ebbe are marriage candidates.)

Gerhard, another of Otto's younger brothers, owns and operates the Textile Mill. He lives with his wife, Aluna, and their four children - Jasper, Silas, Makena and Isla - in a restored Victorian home with an "award-winning" hedge maze. (Silas is a marriage candidate.)



Ignas is Stoffton's blacksmith. His wife, Marina, tends an aquarium and teaches classes on Fridays. They have two sons - Tomas and Clay. Tomas is married to Felix, the youngest of Otto's brothers. Clay still lives at home with his parents, where he can use his father's forge for his pottery. (Clay is a marriage candidate.)



Leander and Selene run a clothing shop. Their daughter, Lexi, is the pastry chef at the SugarDrop Café. Rhys runs a "package store" and Gwen operates a gem shop nearby. Their daughter, Kendria, is the chef at the SugarDrop Café. Lexi and Kendria have a daughter, Alexandria. (Alexandria is a marriage candidate.)



Johanna runs a boarding house for workers at the textile mill. Current inhabitants are Dahlia, Fabiana, and Juliana. (Fabiana and Juliana are marriage candidates.)



Al lives up north, in the older part of Stoffton. He works part time at the grocery store. His son, Will, has completely renovated the upper floor into his own apartment. (Will is a marriage candidate.)
