Performing a clean install of Steam version, 1170, and all associated DLL libraries and latest SKSE, I get the following error message:
A DLL plugin has failed to load correctly.
MediaKeysFix.dll: disabled, fatal error occurred while loading plugin
Continuing to load may result in lost save data or other undesired behavior.
.....all loading worked fine up until I got to this mod. I am using MO2, Steam version of SE 1170. When I uninstall the mod, my game loads, plays and saves correctly with no crashes.
Works flawlessly for me changing volume in-game. I'm on AE's last update prior to the most recent one in December.
Kudos.
It's bizarre that Skyrim even needs a script extender mod to fix something as basic as this. Oblivion had a similar issue for me but all I had to do to fix that was change an ini option of bUseBackgroundKeyboard (or something like that) from 0 to 1.
So, here's a weird thing I discovered. Normally, when I launch Skyrim it somehow breaks the keyboard for Oblivion and Morrowind. They would just stop responding to keyboard commands. I have to restart my PC to fix it. I suspected that it has to do with how Skyrim takes exclusive control over the keyboard. So, I installed this mod to see if it would change anything, and to my surprise, it DOES! It fixed the issue completely for Oblivion and Morrowind LOL.
I dont know if this would be similar, but would it be possible to allow the f13-f24 keys to be recognized by skyrim? Would love the extra keybindings for MCM.

Go on Windows Settings -> Devices -> Typing -> Advanced Keyboard Settings -> Input Language Hot Keys
On the Advanced Key Settings, click "Input language hot keys". Set either to one you choose or Not Assigned.
Anyway, thank you so much for the mod!
