About this mod
Replaces the vanilla hybrid 3D spiky grass models with slightly less hybrid-y versions resembling sedge. Includes an ashen version for the Dragonborn DLC and Hearthfire models for both.

This mod was supposed to be Carex fuliginosa, the short-leaved sedge, but as Narrelia kindly poined out, a number of other Carex species look quite similar, and I couldn't get a reliable, unique definition of C. fuliginosa that I could use to differentiate it. Instead I will simply consider this mod a generic member of the Carex genus, modeled off a mix of C. fuliginosa, C. hirta, C. elynoides, and C. utriculata.
I wanted to somehow make a reference to the Skaal using sedge to insulate their boots and coats, but didn't want the flavor text to get too long. The diversity of Carex also means there's a species for just about any ailment in any culture, which makes it a good canidate for the model of an alchemy ingredient. I didn't know anything about sedges before doing this model; but they're actually common where I live, too.
Ashen Spiky Grass for Hearthfire: This mod comes with a Hearthfire planter model for the ashen spiky grass of Solstheim, but you'll need a mod that actually adds the harvestable to the game to see it. This mod works out-of-the-box with More Plants and Recipes SE, but if you use a different mod you'll need to move the byohhouseingrdspikygrassash01.nif from the moreplants folder to the appropriate folder.
Q: How do I get the seasonal variations?
A: You'll need Seasons of Skyrim and a mod that adds the appropriate swap info for spiky grass (like Shrubs of Snow or Seasonal Landscapes). I didn't find any mods that add all four seasons or Solstheim's spiky grass, but if anyone ever does, the models are there.
NOTE: There doesn't seem to be a given syntax for how to name seasonal nifs, so if you use a mod like Seasonal Alchemy you will need to rename the files to match that mod.
Q: How do they look alongside grass mods?
A: Carex are of moderate height; this combined with the fact they're at the water's edge where there's little grass means they should be visible. That said, Carex blends a little too well with the coastline texture at times - a reliable way of finding it is to get down and look for the grass pods sticking out into the air.
Q: ENB? Reshade?
A: All screenshots are taken with Reality - A Performance Reshade, as well as Skyrim Distant Blur and... Yet Another HDR Eye Adaptation and Bloom Removed Mod.
Q: Mods in screenshots?
A: Happy Little Trees. I'm uncertain if Obsidian Mountain Fogs is visible, but it's there.
