Sky, (and anyone else) There should be a "Static Attenuation(db)" in xEdit that you can use to lower the volume of the horse steps. Change each one under "Sound Descriptor" to a desired level. Do not adjust volumes too high for the sake of your ears. I work with audio and you should adjust the volumes by .5 db until comfortable.
This mods volume for some of the steps is already at 2.2 so you might want to adjust it by .2 or .1.
Use this to adjust other volumes as well in other mods. It is useful for those dragon sound rework mods.
Also for note, the audio files themselves can be loud so just because one file is set to 11db doesn't mean you should set the rest to it. Adjust all volumes according to their original value for that specific sound.
These step sound are fantastic! You're awesome. I love this mod so much, hopefully someone can find a fix for the double step sounds with Horse Renewal Animations!
Sorry about the issues with the Horse Renewal Animations mod, it's nothing I can help with because I have no idea how animations in skyrim work (sound triggers are backed into them afaik).
Thank you so much for this mod! First I was actually searching for a solution for lagging horsesteps sounds and someone on Gamespot mentioned your mod. So now there is no problem with missing horsesteps sounds but also these sounds are so realistic!
Gotta admit, it's wild to me that some random people on Gamespot are mentioning/recommending my mod. I know it's not a unknown mod but still hearing something like this is crazy to me. So, thanks for telling me how you find the mod. :)
The overwhelming majority of mods will work on AE. The only mods that really won't work on AE will be SKSE or other executable based mods that rely on the version of the Skyrim exe. I use this fine on AE.
How did you create the sounds for the mod? On your mod page you link to a game you're a sound designer for, and it reminds me of a vid I found on Foley artists, and it was quite fascinating!
There's 2 sets of the footsteps in my game and it's really bugging me. It sounds almost like echoing, and it sounds completely fine if my horse is sprinting but the echoing is there when its just galloping and/or walking. Is there a fix?
Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. I don't have any echoing. Maybe you're using another mod thats causing issues? Is it a custom horse? Arvak does use 2 sets of horse step sounds. The normal horse sounds and the skeletal step sound on top.
the problem is tricky. i too had this issue, and for anyone wondering, it is not compatible with skyrim horse renewal animations. you will have to choose one or the other, unfortunately. i'm not sure if this mod is safe to uninstall mid playthrough, but the other is, so long as you clear your nemesis folder and rerun the application. i would choose to remove the animations if, like me, you are far along enough in your play through to not want to go back. terribly sorry for those that are in this position, as i am. good luck.
Thanks for the info @HaydenDaws. Much appreciated. Really like the animations, but the sounds just make things so much more immersive. Obviously I'd like to have both, but I've no idea if a compatability patch is possible.
@HaydenDaws I am certain that uninstalling this mod mid-playthrough is safe to do, since it doesn't add any scripts and only really adds a bunch of .WAV files, although you should always create a new save before uninstalling any mod, just in case.
Yes, thank you @HaydenDaws! Removing the horse animation file from Animations from Skyrim Horse Renewal (I chose to keep the rider animation files) did fix the problem. Too bad they aren't compatible, but I'd much rather have the sounds than the animations :)
Thanks for figuring out the issue! Also this mod should be 100% save to deactivate mid playthrough. I didn't fumbled around with scripts, just extended what was already there.

This mod is trivial to eslify into an ESPFE. Making it no longer count against the plugin limit.
Just load in SSEEdit, rightclick and choose "compact formids for ESL" and run script.
Then in File, set record flag to esl and save.
Then you can upload new version here on Nexus.

Moreover, xEdit says : Can be turned into ESL by compacting FormIDs first, then adding ESL flag in TES4 header
