Open Question: Even with the added conditions, is the free Black Soul Gem recipe too good? What would you think about requiring at least 1 Gem Dust in addition to the Grand?
Version 1.3 has brought what I think you'll find to be nice improvements.
Crafting Black Soul Gems no longer uses a heart, so there's no Heartbreaker version anymore. Now you must also be an Adept Necromancer and use the Black Altar at night.
Gem Dust recipes from precious gems have been tweaked to better match the gold value of the gem. To be precise, you get Gem Dust equal to the value of the gem (WACCF numbers) divided by 75, rounded to the nearest positive integer. Flawless Diamonds grind into 14 of them!
Addons for CCOR and Bruma now included in the patcher add recipes for their new gems.
If you were using Heartbreaker version, be sure to read the instructions in the installer or you may lose your held Gem Dust. Old versions are still up if anyone wants.
While I like the concept of the mod, I'm finding the amount of Gem Dust given from breaking down precious gems very low, perhaps due to Adamant. At the very beginning of the game with 1 perk in speech I can sell a garnet for 34, purchase an empty petty soul gem for 26, and have left over gold. With the rate set up in the mod there's no reason to ever consider breaking down a precious gem instead of selling them and purchasing the soul gems you want, which is a key aspect I'm looking for in a mod like this.
I had no issues having both together, the Black Altar still showed up after the questline for me, but can't promise 100%. I say just keep Simple Soul Gem Crafting high in your load order and there's probably nothing it will have a problem with.
If anyone runs across an error where they can't delete a file named "RMCandles.", here's how you can fix it:
First, open the command prompt. Quickest way to do this is press the windows key + R, type "cmd" without quotes, then press ok.
After that, type in "cd" without quotes followed by a space, then paste in the folder path to Textures\RM_tables from Windows Explorer. Press enter for Command Prompt to enter that folder.
Once it's navigated there, type in "del *.*" without quotes, and press Y when it asks you for confirmation. That should do it.
The first line plants that file without an extension on your PC and now I can't deleted it because it says it can't find the file even though it's right there. The second line just gives you an error in the installer saying it couldn't find it, you know, since it has ".dds.dds", thus failing to install that particular file.
Any chance of an addition to this mod to allow you to pick up/craft one of the altars and place it similar to something from Campfire? Cause my lich could really use this mod, but I doubt she'd be up for regularly travelling to the same dungeon over and over again to get a Black Soul Gem.
I was wondering if you think Deadra hearts should be added as a possible ingredient for black soul gem crafting? Dremora are considered mortals so it should be ok lore wise, plus it gives a use for them if the player doesn't bother with alchemy or smithing.
I didn't think to, because I assumed their souls are not black, but with a quick check on UESP I see now that they are! I'm not in a position to make updates now but I'll be sure to fix this when I get a chance.
Dremora are daedra, not mortals. When you banish (i.e. kill) a daedra, its soul is sent to the waters of Oblivion, and it can then re-assume it's corporeal form in its native plane of Oblivion after some time. They also never age. This goes for all daedra, from the weakest scamp all the way up to to the Princes.
Suddenly I get the feeling there's a single scamp that was pulled into the Mortal World and slain by a hero trying to rescue the emperor, before being slain by a hero pursuing justice for the King of Daggerfall, before tiredly returning to the mortal realm only to be slain by the Nerevarine, before being summoned for an attack on Kvatch, only to be killed and sent back to Oblivion, only to be killed again by the same hero, before giving up and just staying in Oblivion for 200 years...before being summoned by some novice conjurer and being immediately killed by the Dragonborn...
